You have snow already? I thought Colorado was bad but at least here I was still able to get by wearing shorts yesterday.

Just completed a bike rebuild(?) for my girlfriend. Her commute recently increased from about 2 miles round trip to about 26 miles, so a more distance friendly bike was in order.
Nashbar cross frame originally built up as a single speed, comfort, townie type bike . This pic is from when I first built it up, those yellow grips were replaced with some sweet shellaced cork grips, unfortunately no pics. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_CyjGmYVUEvA/S4...8/IMG_0220.JPG Added some gears, and some road drops... and its starting to look a lot like cyclocross bike. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_CyjGmYVUEvA/TM...0/IMG_0633.JPG |

I'm curious... what communities are you commuting through? I notice you're in Buffalo. I grew up in Cheektowaga. When I visited my mom (who lives in West Seneca now) this past summer, I took my bike and rode from her house up to my old neighborhood. I found the roads and drivers to be fairly cooperative with cycling.

Finally figured out how to post pics- ya'll are in for it now (even though it's from my mobile phone). My '06 Kona Smoke, pretty much stock. Added rear rack, kickstand, bar ends, mirror, seat wedge, bottle cages, and removed the rear fender. White bottle on the under side of the downtube has the flat repair items/multi-tool. Seat wedge has a spare tire (so it wouldn't get poked by the tools).

To work I'm riding through Amherst and downtown Buffalo. When I'm riding for pleasure I'm all over: Clarence, E. Amherst, Orchard Park, Chautauqua area, etc. Lots of good riding here. The drivers are ok for the most part.

Hi Sixty Fiver!
Looks like the High Level Bridge :D I'm a newbie here and in bike commuting (just started Sept 2010) and hoping to learn much from the overwhelming amount of info and cycling enthusiasts here. I just hope I can keep cycling throughout this winter season, but I'm taking it one day at a time and that seems to work for me so far in sticking to this newfound purposeful exercise. ricky |

Well if everything goes as planned this weekend with the kuwahara build these will be the last pics of the M-50, gots the front rack back on as of late ive been using it to hold all my rain gear, and my rack just is not liking my new sunlite bag, and the new axiom rack i bought does not work with the M-50 so im hoping i have the time to finish the kuwahara:)

Here are three pictures of my commuter / group ride bike that I took much earlier this year. I've got Look Keo Clipless pedals on it now that aren't shown in this picture, and I swapped out the bar end caps for some nice brushed aluminum ones I bought for $1, but other than that- it's exactly like it is now. I really wanted the disc brakes so that I could stop in the rain. All in all, I'm very happy with it. It's rocking a triple (50/39/30) and a rather high range rear cassette (11-34). I wanted something with a large range when I bought this bike cause I was I wanted to be able to easily carry a lot of gear with me, and since I was a bit concerned I wouldn't be able to make it up hills without it- but recently I've been biking almost exclusively on the large chain ring, and going up hills without going any lower than the 23T rear cog pretty easily. I love this bike, but it is a bit heavy- weighing about 35 lbs or so with the pedals. Thus I am contemplating buying a proper road bike sometime this winter or next spring so that I can more easily keep up with some of the faster group rides around where I live. I'd like something that's either a 50/34 with a 11-23, or a 53/39 with a 12/25, with more aggressive road geometry and a carbon frame. I've done a few long (2+ hour) test rides with such bikes, and it made going up hills SO much easier.
But I love this bike. I've easily put more than 2,000 miles on it since I bought it in July, and I will be sad when it's time to move it to a trainer for the winter. :( http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...8/IMG_2292.jpg http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...8/IMG_2293.jpg http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...8/IMG_2294.jpg |
I am a Fred, new term to me, I think I'm using it correctly.
So far the only add ons are the bontrager lights and rear tire. A wooden trunk for the rear rack is in the planning, I dont think it needs much else. I do wonder how it will hold up, but as my commute is very short, I am optimistic. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...t/IMAG0146.jpg |

http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...8/IMG_2292.jpg It can be your foul-weather commuter and your dream CF road bike can be saved for sunny days. |
