Wow, two gorgeous bikes - clean lines and great colors. Really an inspiration for me to get my fixed-gear commuter up and running. And all other bike companies should take note because Milwaukee Cycles has far and away the best headbadge.

Here's the bike I've been riding to work lately: '88 Trek 660, converted to 42-16 fixed gear.



I bought the frame second-hand for a song, had to buy a new rear wheel (Sun rims, Suzue flipflop, Surly cog, D/A lockring), Sora front brake, and new brake hoods. Everything else is from the spare parts box, including the mismatched bar tape, RSX crankset, and RSX/Mavic CPX21 front wheel. The 19in frame is a little short for me, but with a 120mm stem and a fair bit of seatpost, it fits remarkably well.

I love this bike.

Here's my clunky commuter tank that can go 20+ mph. Of course, I cheat a little to assist me.

Either that frame is WAY too big for you, or your knees must be smacking your chin with the seat that low.

Well here's my commuter/beater. I had to adjust the RD, but I had to clean it first. I figure if I was gonna clean it then I should post a pic. Who knows when it'll get washed next . Yes! I'm mixing Shimano and Campagnolo...a little something I call Shinampy.

Here's mine, a 2003 Fuji Royale. Sorry for the blown out pic - bad lighting in the hallway I took the pic in and too lazy to take a 'real' pic. It's all stock except for the pedals, seat, Conti Gatorskins w/ slime tubes, and the Nashbar 'Cinelli Spinaci' rip-offs. I carry all the unattached lights, tools, etc in a backpack and have SKS Raceblade quick-release fenders for the rain (not pictured).

It is a dark blue / purplish color but the pics are a little washed out so it looks almost black in my pics

Front view. Solid and powerful look, ain't it? Here you can see the front light fixture: 12V, 20W homebrewed halogen (plus helmet dual led, partly visible hanging to the right hand side). Sorry about the blurred pic--my heart hadn't still slowed down.



Rear light setup. The whole equipment can be swapped from bike to bike as needed. Here you can see the blinkie, the main fixed rear light (Cateye HL-EL300BS five-LED head light with red cover), two reflectors (+ a third one further down on the mudguard), and the boss, a blue xenon strobe. The fun is in that the Police cars in Spain also have blue roof lights: I imagine many cagers approaching me from behind throwing away their mobile phones, buckling up and slowing down; benefits for me and for drivers too. Nearly every car changes lane to overtake me.



My Scott tourer and occasional commuter.
Fourteen years old and thousands of kilometres on it (handlebar and brake levers are not stock, but come from the moment I bought the bike. Only the chain, tyres and brake pads have been changed since). Have you seen anything more faithful? In times when everything is quickly outdated and disposable I love this lasting and enduring piece of machinery.

My commuter is a Giant Sedona from the late 90's, bought at Velo Sport in Berkeley. It is stock except for Crank Bros. pedals, different seat and Cat Eye Jetset headlight/tailight combo. I just put on a set of Vittoria Adventure 26x1.75 tires and the Planet Bike Fenders, (the first time I've had fenders, after 2 days I don't know how I lived w/out them).

Alright, here's my baby. It's beat to hell right now, but still rides nice. Even nicer in a week or so when I finally get new brake pads for the front.

This has been my favorite commuter for the last few years. It has been updated to 700c wheels and high pressure tires. This bike is fast and very reliable especialy in bad weather, the classic english three speed design has been refined for over 100 years and they are such a pleasure to ride on short to medium range commutes. I ride this about 10 miles a day in a dense urban area. The hardest part to find for the wheel conversion is the 36 hole Sturmey Archer hub, they can be found on three spaad kids bikes most often. The only limitation of this bike is the short cotter pin cranks, but I'd have to lose the full chaincase in order to update those. The seat got a little tweeked just before I took this photo, and I have since changed the fork to one that has a bit more rake.
