My recent Craigslist pickup....1992 (ish) Novara Randonee. It could use a bit of work but it rides pretty darn good as is. I'm hoping to strip it down and powdercoat this winter if the price is right.

I have been waiting for one last item before I post the official, "my commuter" picture. That last item finally arrived, so we went on a photo shoot. camera phone picture and I'm no photographer but I tried to fancy it up.

Here's my 2011 Salsa Vaya showing off its reflectivity -- sorry about showing the non-drive side, but this is how it sits near my door.

These types of bikes aren't my cup of tea for myself (yet, in a couple more decades I might go that route!) but I have to say this is a VERY sexy execution of the style! Big thumbs up on the design of the fairings (front and rear) and the windshield.

Also, are those stickers for sale somewhere?

Glad to see there is someone else out there enjoying their Torker Graduate. Mine has been my workhouse for over a year.

Sweeeeet ride. I would pimp that everywhere. I like your fender mounting solution too!

Those seem to use a similar mounting system as the SKS RaceBlade fenders, which I have on my commuter. I like these a lot more, though, because they cover much more area.

@yudhoyono, care to tell us who makes those fenders?

Mind if I ask what kind of rear tailight and rack that is?

Didn't install the fenders yet, nor the lights since they are not needed.
Here's this year's daily commuter. I'll be swapping the saddle soon to a black one. A few more changes may occur like cranks and gearing but other than that its good to go. Plan on just having fun with stickers on this one as well, sort of a paint protection strategy.

I'm not totally sold on the salsa bell lap bars yet, I sort of feel like going with the Ritchey Biomax on my other cross bike as I really like the feel.

Single Speed Cyclocross this season should be fun.

The Surly Pugsley, with it's 4inch tires, this would make one awesome winter commuter. Not mine but I wish it was. I wouldn't have much use for it here in Albuquerque. We do get snow here but not enough to justify buying a bike like that.

Has since evolved into this:
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=213848http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=213849

Pulled a spoke through the stock rims so I replaced them with a set of Vuelta ZeroLite on sale on Nashbar.
Had a Cane Creek Thudbuster for less than a year. Comfy, but bouncy. Swapped it out for a cheap carbon seat post.
Replaced the rack with a Topeak SuperTourist and a Timbuk2 Bullit pannier/messenger bag.
Swapped the front suspension fork with a Nashbar carbon MTB fork.
Ditched the Topeak handlebar bag.
Cut down the handlebar.
Swapped XT rear derailleur and shifters with SRAM X9 group.

Aw. Don't wait until you are older! take advantage of speed and comfort *now*. Then again, these types of cycles will only get cheaper as the years pass. We just need a couple of companies to start a proper mass-production-way-of-thinking-shift, and the prices will drop down to the level of the other fine bikes posted here.

Thanks! I'm quite happy how it turned out, considering the front was the first time I ever laid glass-fibre. The tailbox was bought from a company that makes them for low-racer recumbents, and luckily fit the back of the Nomad seat perfectly.

I do have an issue with the windshield... there appears to be a dead spot of air just before the windshield. At 40+kph after a rain shower, the rain drops don't move at all from the front of the windscreen - I gotta figure out how to get some airflow there, otherwise nighttime driving in the rain will be dangerous. I suspect I will just have to break down and use a windshield wiper, like the standard Leitra Velomobile uses. But that is for another thread!

It's in German, so I think they came from a recumbent dealer in central Germany, possibly from the Cab-bike people. I got it for free from the Leitra shop in Denmark. No idea what the price would be, but I guess you could find out better than I from a printing company local to you.

chuckfox, I think that's badass, actually. Lots of storage, the attention to detail with the blue lining, solid frame. As a neophyte, I can't get past wanting a road frame-ish bike with drops, but there are great options like this one for brute hauling capacity. Maybe I'll get to a two-bike system: one road commuter/tourer (if I ever actually go touring), and one dedicated hauler.

The roadies were starting to get to friendly with me...

So I decided to "Fred" things up a bit with this flag that I rescued from the side of the road last Saturday.

Now even the guys with recumbents won't talk to me. :D

After roughly 300+ kilometers and two and a half months of commuting/cycling, the $260 Romanian/German budget bike has kept up incredibly well; especially since it has to cope with my (now) 290lbs!

So far I've had to change the left crank and crank axle, along with both pedals which were sub-par and couldn't handle my weight. I've also taken all the stock electrics off since the dyno was utterly useless. These have been replaced by cheap lights bought off DealExtreme which are adequate for now. Also added a folding rear-view mirror, classic bike bell and a small pannier style case which fits on top of the frame and holds my wallet, cellphone keys etc... (a few $ from ebay).

Except for some descent panniers, I don't expect to invest any more cash on this bike, and will probably be getting a better quality one later on in the year, till then I hope it's stays in one piece!

My Kona Paddy Wagon single speed commuter
Currently looking into ways to mount a rack on it, it doesn't have any mounting facilities on it which is a little annoying.

I decided to get my first road bike, a not quite stock 2010 Defy 2. In addition to fast recreational rides, I'll do some fair weather commuting with it. Although the first day I had it I managed to get caught in an evening thunderstorm. It has mounting points for a rear rack which could come in handy.

My brother asked if this means that I'll be selling my touring bike, he obviously doesn't know how this bike thing works.

I have the 2011 Defy 2. It is a wonderful bike. I commute with it nearly every day.
Loose the Kendra tires unless you like flat repairs.

Behold, the frankenbike. It's old, ugly, and beat-up, but it gets me there.

Seattle sports duffle. It is waterproof and comes with two straps on the bottom to keep it on the rack.

There is a bit of webbing on the back to clip a light in. Got it off of REI outlet, they show up up every once in a while but are kind of hard to find.

noglider 08-12-11 05:44 PM

Even the ugly bikes in this thread are beautiful. When you commute on a bike daily, you refine its functions to a high degree.

Seat bag if you can't put a rack on it.
