Love the Unit! Here's mine, although I definitely prefer riding it on dirt over pavement.

Agreed, much more preferable on the dirt. Thankfully there is a lot of single track on the way to work.

I use this to commute :)
It's a Superia Apollo Superstar, made out of Ishiwata 022 tubing and has a Shimano 600 Arabesque groupset. The saddle was a Selle San Marco Concor (original but uncomfortable...), now it's a Brooks Team Pro Classic. I also changed the bar wrap and the toe clips and straps (the old clips were bent and the straps were worn (nylon)) http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=471233 PS. How do you make the picture bigger? |

When you tell it to post the picture if you are using a picture hosted elsewhere, it will have a little check box asking you if you want to retrieve the picture and host it locally. If you have that checked, the image will be like a thumbnail, if you don't have that checked, it will have the full sized image in your post. I don't know how it works if you upload pictures directly from your computer as I only use images I already have hosted elsewhere (mainly my google drive as I use picasa to organize my photos on my desktop - too lazy to fire up photoshop most of the time).

Oh great, after not buying a new bike for a almost a year I found something new to covet. I was surprised they had been around a while, never noticed it on previous visits to the Kona site, but I was most interested in the minute back then. Thanks,

New wheels which I thought where an absolute steal from eBay. Sadly the stem just doesn't fit. 10mm too long, and no matter what I do, there is no way to make it fit. It matches the bike perfectly, but it is now off and replaced.

^ The stem, doesn't fit because the brake cable is too short? Even when the stem is flipped down? You could always run a new, slight longer brake cable. Or am I missing something? That seems like a good solution, especially if the longer stem is better for your bike fit.

I replaced my Trek FX 7.3 this spring with a Giant Anyroad 1. 28 mile round trip commute and the flat bars of the FX started getting to me even with bar ends. I normally backpack it but it's too hot during the summer so I've geared up with a couple Revelate Designs bags and it works great, minus having to strip it all from the bike when I arrive. Still worth the hassle though.

The stem doesn't fit because it is a 100mm and a 90mm is a perfect fit for me and the bike. I found the stem at a bike shop in Chicago and I am pretty sure that it is the original stem for the bike. I bought the bike as a frame and cannibalized another track bike for the parts. Saw that stem and just had to have it. Lady at the shop gave me a deal on it since she was super cool. I just cannot make it fit. Stretches me out way too far and the wrists and back are really feeling it.

The Thorn T-Bar Accessory Mount is both sleek and strong. Strong enough to steer the bike with if needed. The bar mounts via the steering tube, taking 27mm of spacer area and turning it into an efficient accessory mount. I will never use anything else.

Got a new off the showroom floor 2011 Raleigh One Way earlier in the year, just dressed it this morning with Sackville SaddleSack Medium in Olive and Sackville TrunkSack Small in Olive. The results came out beautifully.

Here's one my favorite commuter bikes for a variety of terrain on dirt, gravel roads, mud and pavement.

That's a mad max bike, baby! Mount some guns on the handlebars (and another on the rear rack, with a crazy 8 year-old to shoot it), and you're ready for the global supercollapse!
