My newest...got for $10.50. Wasn't sure if I was going to keep or sell (got 9 others in the lot to fix up and sell), but after riding it, I kind of like it. Trek Soho Single Speed

Nice I liked the SOHO when I rode it from the shop. I will buy it from your for $17.50 :) ;)
I found an estate sale on CL - 14 bikes for 300. A friend of mine split it with me. When we got there it ended up being 20 bikes, assorted wheels, 2 huge bins of parts and 2 car racks. Was able to sell off 2 in the first 48 hours, but I think the Soho will stay with me for awhile |

In 2014 they replaced the Soho single with the District S - I think they only made it one year. Not exactly the same frame but pretty close. Trek doesn't make anything like that now except for Earl which is steel. Anyway I like mine more and more all the time - if you don't already have a similar ride I suggest you give it a chance. Hard to ride no-hands though... probably the high BB... but that keeps me from scraping pedals since I have it fixed.

Peugeot P-mystery-M
Trash bike is now hanging from ceiling and waiting for winter & snow studs. Meanwhile it has given away some of it's parts to my new old commuter bike.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CMG_aMeUMAA_f24.jpg:large Current setup has the usual hodgepodge of parts (something old, borrowed, new & red):
After extensive cataloque search I did not manage to find the exact model or year of this bike. From Carbolite 103 tubing & stamped drop-outs I think this is some lower end model. Under the BB is a sticker that says the model is P ?? M, where the question marks are unreadable. Frame size 57 is still readable. Decals & head badge point to somewhere early 80's, but every Peugeot cataloque pic I could found with these decals are lugged construction. This frame has no lugs. There's still some minor adjustments to do (chain shortening, fender lines, lights, bell, crankset & brake update), but those I'll iron out with time & happy commuting. |
That's a really sweet build. I like how you managed to mix old drivetrain with an 8sp cassette.
What's a "no-death stem"? Are you now immortal? |

From today's commute:

So at one point, I stripped down a vintage bike to frame and built this bike:
http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1359392532 Built for the fun of it, on spec, to sell. Didn't sell, ended up parting out the wheels to a BF member in SS/FG. Rear was S3X fixed 3sp hub; front 70mm drum brake. After selling the wheels, I raided my parts bin and turned it into a 1x10 flat bar bike. This local eccentric rider hemmed and hawed for a few weeks before buying it. Since then, I'd seen it around town, all decked out, but didn't have a chance to catch up with him. Until yesterday at the bus station -- I was getting back for the home leg of my bike-bus-bike commute, he was headed out. Bike was stripped down when he got it, he's added a few things...: http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...2&d=1439323693 He's a picky guy when it comes to the bikes he rides, so I was chuffed when he actually bought this, and I am psyched to see him still using it for daily transport. |
Interesting, it's not often you see pics of other people's commuters on here...

Besides looking seriously "low and go", your mbk looks like it's a very practical bike, too. Front rack is quite roomy, but does it make the steering funny when loaded for commuting (laptop, towel, change clothes, meal -loaded, I mean)? I like the crankset, double kickstand and brake levers especially. Have you intentionally left the pedal straps behind? |

Is the crankset Stronglight 93? I just lost an ebay auction for those to my pug build above, just by cheaping out and not bidding enough. Would have been a sweet addition, especially when polished all out.

A small or medium size load (e.g., typical size load on a daily commute) is fine, but a large load (e.g., oversized package, load of laundry, etc.) can make the steering wobbly and imprecise. I am in between toe clips (the ones shown are too large), but when I install the correct ones, straps will go on them also. |

I liked the update, mconlonx -- the bike looked nice in its 'before' state (it looks a little busy now).

Another very nice build. What's on the rear seat stay? And what's dangling from the rack strut?

2015 Kona Unit. My full suspension bike is going to be taking a break from commuting duties.

wow that is geared low!

The kona unit, I've been thinking of something identical lately. I use a felt 29er single speed klunker for a lot of commuting when I dont think I'll need fenders or a rack or lights (I have small see me lights on). My only problem with it is the coaster brake, wishing I had disks.
Well done. |
Coaster brake, yuck. Can you put any sort of front brake on there?

32 x 18 for a good 46 or so gear inches. Fun bike.
Have a look at the Kona Humuhumu. Its a klunker with front and rear discs, sliding dropouts and it might have clearance for some 29er tires. http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/...psnvsee3cv.jpg |
jdswitters welcome the bikeforums.net world. There is always another cool bike to covet. :thumb::rolleyes:
