I de-racked the faster cx commuter a month or so ago... Still unsure if worth it... haha. I started doing more bumpy, rough roads and single track for recreation and ditched it. I keep a full change of clothes at work, so really don't need to carry much more than lunch on those days. But sometimes wish I could pick up something a bit easier on the way home.

Mah wheelz (mirrors have since been removed, unfortunately). People often refered to it as the "Suzuki Carry", a type of small Japanese Kei (a classification based on size) truck. I just call it my faithful 1986 Hyundai Stellar:

Gitane tempory commuter bike by curtis corlew, on Flickr I'm sure that I've just ended the rain and any chance of the California drought ending. I bought SKS Raceblade fenders for my early 70s Gitane Tour de France turned fixed-s/s. I've set it up with lights, my Rideye and Fly6 cameras and such until my new commuter arrives sometime in February. Today was my first bike commute (though not first ride) since my encounter with a truck. It's so wonderful to be back on the bike. Those small stickers say "I Voted" and "Ya Voté." I sure with I could get them in other languages too. Anyway, I am now rain ready! |
Just picked her up! Hoping I can squeeze some mudguards under the brakes (it's missing a pad on the front), and I just want to put a rack on it and then some personal stuff (clean, change out the bar tape, different tires, and a new saddle). I believe it is a '92, Miyata 721

I've got two, and there's no particular priority in which I ride them (primary/backup):
1977 Schwinn LeTour II, 2x1 drivetrain (The FD works, the RD is just a tensioner for a 16T freewheel). http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=497715 1992 Trek 8000 MTB. 1x7 drivetrain, SRAM twist-grip shifter controlling a Shimano RD (hasn't blown up yet!). http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=497716 |

This is my new bike. I finished building it last night. It is pictured with studded ice tires. I rode it for a quarter mile last night on those tires. They are very loud. This morning, I changed the tires and rode 14 miles to work. It's a blast! The frameset is a 1974 Raleigh International. The bike with the studded tires weighed a mere 26 pounds. It's probably below 25 pounds now. |
Looks pretty sweet! Studded tires look narrower than I would have expected. Seat looks a little too upwards to me, is it nosing your nethers? I think fluted seatposts are cool, and that crankset is pretty too with the fluted arms and crowned outer ring.

The tires are 35mm wide. The crankset is Campagnolo Super Record from the early 80s. |

A) what bike is it? b) love the stickers c) interesting crank - please explain d) are the bullhorns tilted up on purpose? e) Spiderman should come before There's Something About Mary & Transporter 2 f) do the wheels really light up? or is that camera flash reflection trickery |
Quote:
b) thanks :) c) It's a Race Face pink anodized chainring, on standard Andel square taper cranks. I got it for $5 because I guess no one else wanted to run a pink chainring and it was the size I wanted (47t). There's also a strip of reflective tape on the crank arms (as well as on the seat stays). d) Yes, I tried them flat but didn't find that nearly as comfortable as tilted slightly up like this. Tried a few angles for days/weeks at a time before settling on this position. e) Oh, ****. Fixing that tonight! *twitch* f) It's just the camera flash. They are LIT (brand, not literally lit-up) super reflective tires. |

c) Ha i didn't even notice it was pink. But I see it now. d) I used to have my bullhorns tilted up slightly too, but I leveled them off to see how it feels. So far it's ok. f) I probably could have looked up the brand, but, you know, i'm lazy. |

Reelights are great, but generous use of anything reflective really does a very good job. We should all do that. It doesn't look dorky, and being crushed in a collision does.

that looks more like a late summer or early fall picture.

but but but.... I thought deciduous trees would still drop their leaves in fall/winter even if it's somewhat mild. No?
