having any weight on the rear causes wagging, doesn't have much to do with how secured into a basket that weight might be. too many people make the mistake of assuming carrying stuff must start on the rear of the bike. terribly imbalanced way to ride. my basket does not block my view of the road, as i am not staring down at my tire...are you? and no, i exclusively use things i wouldn't ever recommend.

Oh is it a short loop, closed with a chain tool? That makes sense. In the pic it looks like just a length of chain magically attached. Cool, very bike-y solution to a very bike-y problem!

Better phrasing - is it worth the cost? Does it work for every case of lugging stuff you've had, or just most?

This is my bike. The first time I've used a front rack and I actually prefer it. I can strap anything to it.

Why do you prefer a front rack?

Anything is within easy reach, I can put a basket, bag or crate on it and I find the balance better than dragging it all behind me.

I may be mistaken, but I think the the front wheel is supposed to be stronger than the back. Happy to be corrected. I am also a fan of front racks, for the same reason as Aussie_Cyclist. (Also a fan of belt-drives. )

How many picky bars are you carrying?

I didn't even think about a front rack. The basket I liked is too large for a front rack.

Just upgraded my seatpost bag and added a top tube bag. All I'm missing is a flood light, which I probably won't need while it's summer.
Edit: Also going to get some bottle holders.

A couple weeks back I stopped using the BG as my commuter and built this..

I like everything about it but the barcon's (probably because of the handlebars) so later this week it'll get a Rival 1 group

do you recommend panniers over a basket? I don't like how my basket raises my center of gravity.

I like baskets but I find grocery shopping and the like easier with panniers than with a basket

Wald folding baskets for the win. Low like panniers, but you can just throw a backpack or your bags of groceries in, put a bungee cargo net on top and be off in seconds.

What do you need 4 panniers and a handlebar bag for?

My original optimization case was commuting, for which a basket is easiest. Just throw your backpack in the basket! The Basil Cento Aluminum is lightweight and far more durable than a mesh basket.

In the handlebar bag I put repair stuff and all the small things I need to carry

LR had my softball stuff, RR had work stuff in it, the fronts were for grocery's. I don't need/use 4 all the time but yesterday was going to be long and busy.

Those look like King Cage Iris, but I could be wrong. I always get those and the Delta Inox mixed up, but the tab is on the opposite side. I have both.
