So you are tolerant of all people... unless you disagree with their choices of words and actions.

How enlightened of you.

Do you think the OP was respectful in his actions?

Nowhere on my posts did I even say that I disagreed with either side. Show me where I even say this. I'm sorry, but I think you should read more carefully. All I stated was to be more respectful of people you don't even know and not call them names just because you don't like what they have to say.

Look, I'm not here to argue with you.. I joined this forum to learn about bikes, and it's sad to see that there's some hostility going on just because there are differing views between some of you and the OP.

Also, you can have disagreeing views while also being tolerant..

Tolerant:

–noun
1.
a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry.

2.
a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one's own.

3.
interest in and concern for ideas, opinions, practices, etc., foreign to one's own; a liberal, undogmatic viewpoint.

You disagreed with my choice to use the word "child" to describe the OP.

I stand by my assessment of the OP's attitude to society as a whole as being that of an older child, i.e. an obnoxious teenager thumbing his nose at the establishment.

I've ridden my folding bike in a beautiful dress and $200 stilettos to go to dinner. It was just a little more than half a mile down the road but I wanted to ride my bike and I don't let something like dresses and stilettos stop me.

I've always exercised all my life. I love walking, rollerblading, jogging and yes, bike riding to name a few. While other people are in a car or on public transportation in beautiful weather just to go a mile down the road they ask me why I'm walking/riding a bike like I can't afford a $2 train ride. These are the same people that are obese/overweight and complain to me about how they can't loose weight and how they "hate me" because I'm so in shape/thin. Hello?

You should ride your bike any darn time you want, anywhere you want, wearing anything you want. And to heck with what other people think.

To reluctantly defend Mackerel, I tend to be more child like than "adult". So that assessment was correct. As far a it being a bad thing, that is debatable. I try not to take life to seriously. This is all pretty much a big game to me. I work to eat, feed my family and provide. None of it has any real meaning. I am just going through the motions and playing the game.

It's all really superficial and silly to me.

And to you folks who are frustrated by me, don't sweat it. I admit I am very different and probably beyond eccentric.

Don't flatter yourself; your comments don't frustrate anybody; your comments describing yourself are hardly necessary.

The only surprise is comments about taking care of a family. Do you actually provide any financial and moral support? Do you also try and teach them your work ethic, too?

I've never been taken for homeless, but once, when I was a young man fresh out of college, I was on a travel job staying at a very nice hotel with a classy restaurant. I went for a walk to clear my mind between writing reports. At the end of my walk I was returning to the hotel and I walked by the restaurant as some dude drives up in his new station wagon. He looks at me in my old, hooded jacket, flips me his keys and says "Park it Boy". Foolishly I threw his keys back and told him I didn't park cars, he's on his own.
As I look back, I wish I had thought it through. I should have taken his car for a short ride, parked it about 5 blocks away and put the keys back in the restaurant. Then watch the fun when he tried to get his car back.

Not joking here. I really don't have any idea what your talking about. Which work ethic are you referring to? I go to work. Work hard. Call in sick maybe twice a year. Never late.

Do I like to work? No. The list of things I'd rather be doing than work is insanely long.

Like I said before I play the game. But it doesn't mean anything. The parts in between riding my bike each day are just nuisances. The part I look forward to is when I ride back up my driveway.

If I ever get a job that becomes part of my passion in life than my views might change but as of right now it's just another chore.
As far as work ethics. I guess that's subjective.

Wow. This thread is what happens when the desire to be declared the winner trumps all else.

Reminds me of the Foghorn Leghorn cartoons where Foghorn stands, smirking, at the line indicating the end of the dog's leash, and the dog is straining at its collar, going "BOW WOW WOW WOW SNARL (etc)."

(oh, and slloth is Foghorn, BTW, though I don't really believe it was ever his intent to be)

I'm not homeless, I'm broke though. Nobody ever mistakes me as homeless. When they see me coming back loaded from the thrift store or grocery outlet they know better.

You are more than welcome to believe that...however you have to realize our society and economy are built around businesses. You wouldn't have the internet access you have to post here without corporations, for example. Some corporations are destructive, some small mom and pop stores take advantage of people as well. For every corporate scandal you see in the news, there are hundreds that give a large percentage of earnings to charity, give honest, hardworking people jobs, and provide much needed products and benefits to society. I know it is the popular thing to bash corporations, but I am just asking you to think for yourself instead of making the same blanket statements you hear amongst any hipster/nonconformist crowd.

And to say corporations exist only to make money is a very cynical view. Some do, but many people who start public companies honestly enjoy what they do. Besides, doing a job only for money is a problem you can't stick only on corporate America, right?

People treat me with much more respect since i cut my hair and keep my beard short. I used to look pretty scary. People who i met when i looked like Charles Manson i find i keep having to re-introduce myself to them. To others i have become "invisible". I am able to walk through my spouse's workplace with impunity, where before i would be questioned and asked to produce credentials.

I've called the FBI...thanks for tipping us that you changed your look, Charlie.

I haven't had much time lately to read BF. Reading this post all at once made me think: of all the people that were arguing over the OPs right to sit at that table, getting all upset on behalf of businesses, only 3... count them--3... have yellow t-shirts by their names:

chipcom

According to some of you, that give the rest of us the right (including me) to pay up or stop taking up Mr Stormcrowe's virtual tables and chairs with our virtual butts. Hmm.

Red stars are paid members too... I am now offended because you have discriminated against them and will report you to the FBI as well. Uncle Obama is gonna get you, pal.

Guess you don't know what the Red star is, do ya, Jack? And none of them were handed out as booby prizes in a beauty contest either! Hmm is right!
