WOOHOO! Did my 2nd day of commuting on the bike today. Made it in 1 hour 30 minutes. I'm not sure how I shaved 10 minutes off Tuesday's time. Maybe it's because I made a little more of an attempt to ride up the nasty hills (still had to get off and push a couple times). I encountered a little light rain this morning, no problem, felt kind of nice.
I'm thinking of doing M-W-F next week

I find waiting for traffic lights and also stop signs eat up time. Also even a quick stop for shoelaces or brake adjustment can add time. You'll find your groove and stop watching the clock. I don't even look anymore.

The worst part is the prep before hand to clean out your system. The test itself is nothing.
Better to do it and find nothing, then to wait and find something.

I'm also a desk jockey and being able to sit at a desk is a great way to start the work day after a morning run and/or ride. However, as a 50+ runner and cyclist, I think that sitting around all day is one of the worst things a person can do after running or riding that morning. Sitting tightens the hamstrings and calves and can tire the quadriceps. I don't want to discourage you from riding. rather, I want to encourage you to take care of your legs during the work day. So when you embark on your morning exercise regimen that involves your legs (i.e., riding to work), be sure to stretch your hamstrings, calves and quadriceps after you ride.

I also have a styrofoam roller for all parts of the leg (not me in the photos)

and a "pro stretch" torture device (calves and hamstrings)

I also make it a point to get up and walk around frequently during my work day. I get best results when I take a short walk every 20 minutes or so.
Good luck!
