First commute this year.
We got a lot of snow between Christmas and New Year's Day and the MUP isn't plowed. It's the only direct way in. The alternative adds miles, some on not so nice-for-bikes roads.
I let the snow pack down sufficiently, then I can at least walk a piece of the MUP to get to another road that gets me into the city here. I did that today. I can't NOT ride, given this nice warm weather. (33F this morning!) Takes me about 10 minutes longer than normal though, with the walking.
Time for my breakfast. (A big orange.)

First commute of the year. Also the first day back at the office. There's a noticeable lack of leg strength since I've been off my bike for more than a month. There's also a noticeable rattling from the rear rack, but that's due to a missing bolt that holds the rack to the rear drop out, something I discovered after riding all the way to work.

Great pix! Is that an outdoor amphitheatre you stop at?
My ride in and home this evening was wonderful. Warm enough to take the usual commuter bike, which feels like a lightweight racer- despite the fact that it weighs almost 40 lbs.!- I wonder what my winter commuter with the big knobby studded tires weighs?

Right at the freezing mark this morning Heavy frost last night, so much so it was enough to make one a bit apprehensive on the bike, as it was crunching under the tires and a wee bit slippery. Nice ride regardless. Looking forward to the 53degrees they're calling for on the ride home.

it was a warm 20 F ( -6 C) today. Humidity is up. I still dressed warm and brought other clothes in case it gets warmer today.

Lots of adrenalin to complete my ride in this morning. Had to hit the brakes pretty hard to avoid a school bus that pulled out of a driveway right in front of right-away me. That wasn't what got me riled but the fact the bus driver did it while a cop, parked at the curb not five feet away, just sat there and watched.
On a lighter note, I witnessed more Crows in one place then I have ever seen before. There were hundreds of them in the trees all trying to talk at once. Must have been female Crows.
Minus three and cloudy, very little wind.

Took the MUP today. It was below freezing all night, and just turned 32F/0C when I left the house, so I figured the snow would be set up well and not mashed potato-like.
It was rough and slow going, but I stuck with it instead of bailing onto roads. I discovered the last 3 miles or so had been plowed. I think the power company does it for line inspections. Studs were good to have, but it was mostly clear and easy-going. I passed a runner.
I heard wild turkeys clucking in the woods in our neighborhood, too.

Today's my birthday, so I thought the red lights would give me a break. Not a chance. Caught nearly everyone. Our weather today is incredible for January, with lots of sun and the afternoon high expected to reach 65 F. That made is hard to dress this morning, because it was in the mid-30s when I rode to work, but I didn't want to be overdressed this afternoon. So, I was a little chilly on my morning commute.
My regular commuter bike is still at the shop, getting its new wheels installed. My mechanic would have finished the wheels Friday but the parts supplier sent him the wrong spokes. So I'm riding my De Bernardi with a large seatbag, and it's fun for a change of pace.

walking to carpool today. This week could ride as few as 2 days (holiday, carpool, Fri may need to drive depending on which way kid duty breaks). Knock on wood, of course, something could always come up and cut it to zero...

Tuesday, Jan.19,10. I’m getting spoiled riding in these mild temps we’ve had. No snow or frigid temperatures to deal with. Makes riding in January fun. But watch out February’s coming.

My first ever commute today, Not bad low 20's in the morning and almost 30 on the way home, using a mid 80's Schwinn Sierra commute is short. Bad part is I work several locations and this is the only one I can commute to hope to do about 2 a week job permitting maybe more

yea happy b day tarwheel...
Well the snow/rain is coming folks.
Yes that warm weather was lovely, but now its raining all day. So look forward to that in a few days.
My commute 3 miles in rain and possibly going home in the rain for another 3 miles.
It was real nice I had a tailwind.
I picked up a new job which is really just the job they laid me off at.
Here is my hill I climb twice a day to get to and from. https://www.youtube.com/bodybait#p/u/15/_32jacTycsQ

looking forward to February. I want my newly commuterized MTB to log some more miles!
leaving tonight I got lots of shaking heads cuz it snowed all day. I left at 4:00 instead of 5:00 to beat rush hour but I picked up the beginning of it and there's a new batch of commuters to deal with. the later crowd was used to me, now I'll have to get this bunch used to me. riding in an active snow storm didn't help their attitude. visibility for me stank and it must have been crummy for them too. I got buzzed by more than a couple and one guy swerved way over into the shoulder after passing me - not sure what the exact message was - move over maybe? yeesh.
got a bloody nose on the way home - the new B12 is too strong. 2500 micrograms instead of 500. I'm gonna have to cut 'em down. I had to stop for a little while and use pressure to get it to stop.
12.92 miles
24.3 mph max spd
12.5 mph avrg spd
1 hr and 1 min (exact same time as the ride in this morning hahaha LOL)

Nice ride both ways today. I met the same friend coming in and going out and it was nice to "share the ride." We probably went at a slower pace, but carrying on a conversation (with someone else) made the ride seem quicker. Also, it's nice to have a later sunset. It almost seems like spring is already here.

nice weather here. rode for a brief bit of my trip with a policeman on his bike, which was cool, i never see anyone else out riding so it was a shock to see a bike cop out.

left this morning in a light snow/rain mix, stopped to vote, then hit the bike path, which was covered with about 1/2" to 3/4" of slushy slop. Even with the studs it was a slippery mess. Rode about a mile on the path and then opted for a road ride in. The path was rideable for the fun factor but not the best when you've got some where to be on a schedule.
The ride home tonight it was more rainy than snowy so I took the chance on the path again and it wasn't great but it was fun ride anyway.

Woke up, checked the weather forecast on my Blackberry, "clear and sunny". Got dressed, got my stuff together, walked out the door, pouring rain.
Shame those bastids don't get paid for accuracy! So nice damp ride in. Thanks Accuweather!

Same here. I checked the weather last night and it was supposed to be decent. Instead a warm 27 F ( -2 C), and icing. Since I did not pack for rain, my clothes are spot soaked. Oh well, I will just pretend that I spilled tea on myself. My rear cassette kept icing up, it started with the highest gear and worked
it's way up to the the last two gears. So it was slow coming in. Hopefully, this mess clears out.

The air here has been smoggy for a couple of weeks, and was again in the morning on the way in. About lunch time it cleared off, and I didnt mind the cross wind on the way home as it came with clear air.

Beautiful weather for my commute in, although I had a chaotic beginning to the ride (long story -- not worth relating). The weather has been fantastic here, although it's supposed to rain this afternoon, so I wore my rain gear in. All in all a fantastic, peaceful pre-dawn commute.

I saw only one other bike on my way in this morning but there were many bicycle tire tracks in the fresh snow.
Minus seven degrees Celsius and similar to your ride buzzman, the salt trucks make a slushy slop covering the bottom of my BB.

Great commute this morning, clear and relatively warm (about 40 F), with a really nice sunrise. I got a new wheelset for my commuter-touring bike for my birthday, and today was the maiden voyage. The wheels are Velocity Dyads laced to Ultegra hubs, 36 hole, with DT butted spokes and Conti GP 4 Season 700 x 28 tires on them. I was a little concerned that wheels might feel a lot stiffer and less comfortable, but my bike actually rode smoother, probably due to the 28 tires. The wheels are slightly heavier than the Ultegra/Mavic Open Pros (32H) that I had been using, but didn't feel like it. I was starting to feel nervous about the Open Pros since my commuter bike is much heavier than my other bikes, plus I would like to do some loaded touring down the road.
