This morning was cool and nice, about 52. I had a nice ride in but it took me about 10 extra minutes this morning. I really dont know why. I guess I was lollygagging (sp?).

Going to be hot on the way home tonight: 101F. Summer has finally arrived in NorCal, only 3 months late.

I took Monday as my car day since it was raining. Still trying to wrestle fenders onto my bike. With mechanical things, if I walk away and think about it for a while, I come up with more ideas. So a new plan has formed. Hopefully it'll work. Looks like I've got a good stretch of clear days ahead to work it out. Meanwhile, I did get to ride in today. Finally, it's cool. 55 degrees this morning. Debated tights over my shorts and ended up sticking with shorts, jersey & jacket which turned out to be comfortable. It's nice not getting all that sweaty. Looks like I'm going to need a head covering soon. My ears were a little cold even this morning.

It must be! LOL

The worst part is that, as usual, the weather forecast was wrong; it's been warming up (around 21°C right now) and the sky is clearing.

Yeah... we're not hardened like you Prairie boys! Don't worry, though; when the freezing rain comes we'll still be riding on our studs and passing all sorts of 4-wheeled forms of transportation that are slipping and sliding all over the place.

35F and sunny on the way to class yesterday, 45F on the way home. Wrong gloves, cold fingers. I guess that this late spate of warm September weather is officially at an end.

Today, 33F and cloudy. Lack of sun and little bit of wind made it feel 10 degrees colder than yesterday. Right gloves, warm digits. Hope warms up a bit before I head home.

Took a pic of the first termination dust on Chugach this year while coming home from the library late Sunday. Get your hats, winter's a-comin'.

Eh, I'm not so tough; I've wimped out plenty of times myself. And I don't even anticipate riding much this winter. I just thought it was amusing that three of you from the same general area of the country all wimped out on the same day.

One thing I've learned, though, in the past year and a half of cycle-commuting: I've almost never regretted riding my bike, even in crummy weather; I can't say the same thing about taking the bus.

Absolutely beautiful ride home. 20 some degrees cooler than last week. Sweet.

Humidity yesterday? Oh my gosh yes. I walked into the garage at work to get my bike and I thought that they had turned on the heat. After quickly accumulating a layer of sweat after walking about 20 feet I realized that maybe I had exited the elevator in Hawaii or maybe Arizona right before a monsoon. Nope, still in Seattle.

Well, today was interesting... when I pulled the bike out to go home, I found I had a front flat... found two tiny shards of glass deep in the tire, so I removed them, patched it, and headed home. With a nice tailwind, I cut my normal time from 40 minutes to 34!! I can't remember the last time I almost spun out in top gear.

On a sad note, the guy I work with was fired today (for being a general slacker, I suppose). We normally staggered hours, he'd work 7:00 - 4:00 and I'd work 8:00 - 5:00. Now I'm going to have to be there from 7:00 to 5:00, which isn't a huge deal, except it means I will now have to leave the house at about 6:00, not even close to daylight. I could use the overtime, but I may have to drive a bit more... grrr.

WOW! what a weather change! I was on vacation last week. Went and rode around a Festival in Midtown Atlanta on Saturday and it was almost 90f, Rain Sunday and Monday and 55f this morning! I may just have to put on a wind breaker for the ride in tomorrow. The ride home was outstanding at 71f.

Prefect riding weather for the next week or more. May have to round up my buds and run the SCT lunch run on Saturday up to have some of Frankies Wonderful Tilapia Parmigiana.

I must confess I wimped out yesterday too. I had a tight schedule and it was supposed to rain and did but not during the hours I was to ride. I have another excuse but who cares. Today my testicles miraculously reappeared and in spite of rain in the forecast I road. It was 79f at 11am when I left for work and 70 when I returned at 8pm. Windy and humid but very little rain during the hours I was riding. I'm sure my friends north of the border would have ridden as well had they such nice conditions.

The commute home was lovely. I got into the office before 7 am; I left for home at about 8 pm. Long day. Worth it though. At that time in the evening traffic is very light. The weather was simply outstanding with no headwind. I wish I could have this kind of weather every day. Oh... and since I was late I stopped at Whataburger for dinner. Yum.

Took the long way home to do five minute intervals. Felt awesome. I love the heat. I felt light, loose, and fast, right out of the box.

On my way home today, I heard a yelling match between a commuter on a titanium\carbon bike and a postie loading mail by the side of the road. I rode ahead and waited for the cyclist and made sure he was OK. Apparently the truck was traveling fast and did not give the cyclist sufficient room. No one was hurt.

Through Sunday (9/26), we were having the driest September on record with only 0.2 inches of rain. That has all ended. We got 3.5 inches of rain on Monday (some areas in NC got 10+ inches), and it is pouring buckets again today with more expected tomorrow. Our weather is crazy like that -- it goes from one extreme to another. Fortunately I can drive on days like this. I have no interest in bike commuting when it is raining cats and dogs.

Ugh. Humid! 61F. I didn't really feel it until I got to work and began to melt. I guess chasing down that roadie didn't help. He actually made me work, and I almost didn't catch him, but he slowed up near the Burlington waterfront and that's when I got him. Me on a 35 pound dualie MTB, into a 15MPH headwind. I need a road bike.

So cold already in the mornings. I wasn't prepared for it today. Rode in my usual shorts and long-sleeve T, and ended up with frozen legs and numb hands. I will definitely be investing in some cheap pants and gloves come pay day. Other than that it was a dream of a ride.

Ride in this morning was excellent, I guess riding in the dark isn't that bad. Traffic wasn't heavy at all. And with my ghetto mega-lumen lighting system, you'd have to be Ray Charles not to see me. Maybe this early morning thing won't be so bad.

On a funny note, apparently 6:00 is close to when the high schoolers wait for the bus, I passed several groups of them. They all looked at me like I had a third arm growing out of my forehead or something... it was pretty funny. Kids these days.

Good commute at 68F and sunny with winds from the SW @ 7mph. I used my upright hybrid bike instead of the recumbent, because the 'bent needs a new rear wheel. It was a little interesting being up so high after being used to the lower position. It was like I was driving a pickup truck instead of a sports car. I also had to re-learn the friction shifting, because I'm used to grip shifting.

If you're gonna have overtime pay coming anyway, maybe you should spend some of it on some serious lights and ride anyway?

Absolutely perfect. A little overcast, cool & not much wind. The leaves have started changing colour big time and the ride through the woods along the river is the second best way imaginable to start the day (well, 3rd best if you included winning the lottery)

Beautiful ride in. 7C/45F, calm and clear. Felt very fast and did the climb out of the valley in a gear higher than usual.
