Cold Cold Cold, 3C (38F?) on the thermometer at home when I left. That's freaking cold for July.

Right about 70F this morning - glorious! As a bonus, a couple semis actually gave me a wide berth.

Nice and sunny. High 50s. Left my repair kit and pump w/ my 8 yr old's daycamp, they're going on a 12 mile bike ride today and are not very thoroughly equipped...

drove in this morning....wish I hadn't as the car promptly broke down and I had to spend 2 hours in the shop.

Cool, starting to see the same commuters pass me going the other way since I changed my work hours. I like the new allen bolt skewers I put on, last night.

Yeah, it's always nice when professional drivers go out of their way to pass you. They've got big vehicles, so it's not, necessarily, easy for them.

Yea, I have had them come so close I have to readjust my mirror. tonight was a nice ride home, kinda hot, looked like it could thunderstorm at any second. I pass something like 8 or 10 bars on the way home. So I kinda drug my butt a half mile before and after a bar. It never stormed, it cleared up about the time I got home so I grabbed acouple of beers and hopped on a big flotie in the pool. It is great being me. Looks like it could storm again though.

I'm up in South Davis County. North Salt Lake to be exact. Commute out to Bangeter and about 21st S. I meander my way out to 900 W by the fairgrounds and then meander over to 11th or 12th W and head South straight to 17th S. and then work my West out to Bangeter. 15 miles each way. I used to jump on the Jordan R. Trail at 400 S and take that to 17th, but it adds about 10 min. to the ride plus peds, goat heads, and bugs.

That must be a bear of a climb getting back up to 30th and 30th. You out at UPL or the state offices?

Usually on friday evening I take the train home and leave the bike at work. I was in two minds but decided the bike was the best way to go.

Two things went wrong. Firstly a pedestrian started walking towards me while I was attempting a track stand at the lights and I fell over.

Then my rd cable snapped and I had to go home in my 42x12.

Still, I enjoyed the ride

The climb is steady, and I have found a route through Sugarhouse that yields a max grade of only 6%. It is sustained at 4%-6% for about 4 miles, with a couple of breaks.

The ride home was nice today. low 90's 13% humidity. Caught up with a very fit female cyclist and exchanged pleasantries. I'm married with a kid, so I'm not in the market, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate the beauty of a woman on a bike.

I was so intent to bring along my digital camera that I forgot my workshoes. By the time I remembered, it was at the point of no return. I had to buy a new pair at Walmart- size 13 because they were out of size 12 I suppose I can look on the brightside by saying I was helped the economy. Anyway, I took some pictures...

Perhaps the worst ride home I could have without being injured

8 miles from home my bolt under the seat blew up- literally it blew up and shattered and made a loud noise while stopped at a red light. After attempting to find another bolt on my bike that could be used I decided to just ride without a seat- my god my legs began to hurt.

Stopped to help a fellow commuter who didn't have his tire levers- helped him removed the metal shard and watched him ride away- the moment I put weight on my frame another BOOM! this time my rear axle snapped in two. I began to walk the bike until the wheel began to rub too much to roll. I made it to the only pay phone in Denver- one whole dollar later I had a ride come pick me up and drop me off at the bike co-op where I notice a broken spoke in the wheel. Two hours later I have everything fixed for zero money but man did it turn into a long long day.

Went in early to work this morning; just had to talk to my manager, nothing big.
It was a nice ride today, especially around 1p. Culver City looks pretty dope in the middle of the day.
Also hot.
Only trouble was, on the way back home, a crazy accident a block ahead stopped traffic, so I had to wait with other cars. I decided to get off my bike and walk around, when bam! Some broad just opens up her door and smacks me.
I mean, wtf I was behind this car the whole time and these guys still don't see me.
Aside from that, cool and breezy ride.

I was feeling pretty beat when I got home last night, 1st full week fixed (5 days, 120 miles straight commute and then there were errands). I think it's the mileage not the gearing but whatever, the route and the bike are both still pretty new to me. Interesting, this was the 3rd week of this route and my 8 yr old was finally picking up an almost the whole thing (his share of the whole thing, he does 8 of my 24 commute miles per day), not consistently going the wrong way at each turn any more. Although actually he went on a 16 mile ride w/ his camp in the middle of the day too, so he earned some time in the comfy chair w/ his ds for sure.

I came upon a ninja on the way home tonight. I was going to stay behind him, but he was slowing me down- so I whizzed by him. The ride in was fine- I went past some kids flagging cars down for a car was at the Cape Cod Baptist Church- "We wash bikes, too!" said one of them. "Hehe- maybe later!" I replied...

Rode into work today for the first time. It looked like the Florida evening storm would hold off, and it did- just long enough for me to get too far out to consider turning back. Oh well, I had a full change with me and it's really just me working my usual 13-hour overnight, so plenty of room to spread out. I do hope the cold office doesn't make it harder for the clothes to dry.

Biggest problem is that my shoes are totally soaked so I'm walking around in my workplace with just socks. Not a big deal all told.

Riding was great, although I don't know that I will need a full half-hour buffer each time. We'll see how early I wake up to see if I can make it two days in a row right away.

Note to self: stash work shoes, also stash dry riding gear for the trip home maybe?

It was a good ride in, amongst a string of good weather days, 60 F (15 C). I surveyed a new route to another building, to which I may be moved, and the route is pathetic. Few shoulders amongst heavy traffic, and in fact some of the road's edge drops off into gulleys 2 to 3 ft deep. The heavy traffic I can handle, and I will be riding in the travel lane.

70degF. Yippie!

wet roads and very humid due to all the rain last night. Used my pannier instead of my backpack today. Can't decide which I prefer....the pannier are nice due to not being on my back. The backpack seems to hold more in one bag, so seems more convenient off the bike.......decisions, decisions, decisions.

Minus six miles bike commuting for Sunday. It seems I did not have all my tire change equipment with me. Thus, out came my lovely wife in the rescue Mini, and I still had to be at my destination and didn't have time to ride, so I drove.

Accursed litterbugs! It was a small piece of glass.

The ride until the flat was nice - just over 60 and sunny. Starting to get warm, but I had enough cushion to back off and keep the sweat in check...had I been able to continue.

Nice ride this morning. High 50sF yet again. Sunny. Bit of a headwind but not bad. Someone came onto the MUP behind me but I lost sight of him/her/it in my mirror.

On Friday I played cat & mouse with a roadie for 2 or 3 miles on the ride home. The dude was fast. I barely reeled him in and I was pushing 22-25MPH into a headwind to do it. I had to slow up to safely pass peds a couple of times. Eventually I wasn't gonna catch up to him again.

I rode the 8 miles to work and listened to The Jazz Mandolin Project, it was a good time.
I am only working 2 days this week so I will have to get a long ride in on Wednesday.
I am getting married this weekend!
Part of the ceremony includes riding away on an old Schwinn Tandem, it's going to be wonderful.

Ahhhh, what a nice day! First commutein a week since I was off last week. I noticed some discomfort today in my lower back. I spent all last week on my road bike, cycling around Lake Champlain (VT-NY-Quebec-VT) without any problems, so it must be the geometry on my commuter bike. Hopefully I can figure out what is causing the problem.

So nice, cool, low humidity. Took it easy after eating it a couple of times yesterday, on singletrack. Still sore & the trail rash hurts.
