Nice one, that's a good feeling.

Overcast, 75F, and not too humid. Nice!

Walk of shame. Got a flat 2 miles from work and when I was inflating the spare, the tube and tire blew! Rather than try to patch the tube and boot the tire, I just decided to walk in the rest of the way. Funny thing is, I was the only one on time for an 8:30 meeting. I'll walk up to the LBS at lunch for a new tube and rig something up with the blown tire. I have spare tires at home. The one thing that amazed me was the lack of concern from other bike commuters who either saw me attempting to fix the flat or walking the bike.

That stinks, sorry to hear it.
What caused the flat? Perhaps the other commuters saw that you were a professional so they didn't think you needed assistance. :)

Well it was 68 according to the speedo but I think the dew point was 66 so it was STICKY. Had to spend about 10 minutes in the data center over the perforated tile "drying" off.

Idiot buzzes within inches of me on the bike and then runs the red light doing at least 50 in a 30 zone then turns into the employee parking at an Early Childhood development center...yea just the aggressive ahole I'd want teaching my kids.

mustang1 08-12-09 08:25 AM

Quads seemed a bit tired today so I spun around 120 rpm (I'm guessing, since I was doing two strokes per second) in a low gear and still going faster then a bunch of people. :)

Tigerprawn 08-12-09 08:37 AM

Great ride. Very few cars this morning and wore some bike tights to keep warm. Felt good getting to work early.

HardyWeinberg 08-12-09 08:43 AM

wet! I have to say, if insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results, that I am finally starting to realize that for where I live and how I ride, a bike w/ no rack or fenders is not a commuter, it's exercise equipment.

jyossarian 08-12-09 08:56 AM

Some blonde woman flew past me on her SS spinning her legs off. I thought about catching up, but w/ only 3 blocks to go, it seemed kinda pointless. Sad that the first thing I noticed about her was that her chain was 1/8" instead of 3/32" and that it was shiny.

Ka_Jun 08-12-09 09:42 AM

Muggy, traffic, thick air. I took it easy on the way in. Saw 6 other cyclists.

noisebeam 08-12-09 10:03 AM

I love riding in in the morning. I wish it could go on forever!

First day back to work, (and on the bike) after 5 days of camping on our land in Colorado.

Got buzzed by a jackass in a pickup truck on the ONLY section of my commute without a designated bike lane - the last 1/2 mile of my ride in. the road is 3 lanes in each direction, 45mph limit with a center turn lane. It is not jam packed, and this truck had tons of space to move to the middle lane. I generally take the lane due to the low traffic volume, and this is the first time I've had a buzz-by. I could see that the truck was staying in the lane as he approached (at at least 50mph), and he moved halfway into the next lane, buzzing by me with perhaps a foot to spare. Jackass.

Nice ride home. One idiot floored it to make a left in front of me. Knew she was going to do it but if I had not slammed on the brakes it would have been very close. Funny how I look at dummies now after a few years commuting. A couple years ago I would have sworn she was trying to kill me and I would yelled and had a big hissy. I just did the obligatory "eh, You stupid?" real loud. Forgot about it till just now.

Caught up with an older guy whose style I liked - hi vis vest/ panniers/ mudguards/ spds - same as me.
Drafted him for 1/4 mile and found myself going too fast so overtook him shouting "mornin!". He shouted back. I kind of looked over my shoulder inviting him to tuck in behind me.

At that point the headwind picked up and I found myself having to push it. By the time we got to the hill he says "Can't let you do all the hard work" and took the lead. Needless to say I was too out of breath to keep up and spun up it in a low gear.

He's one of the few commuters round here that isn't a young dude on an MTB trying to break the world land speed record. Some days it feels like everybody else finds it easy to go fast.

Another nice ride in, great temps 69 F (20 C). There was a thunderstorm around midnight, and it rained
pretty good, but nothing this morning. Just a nice pretty summer morning, albeit dark.

labelcd6 08-13-09 05:02 AM

Another flawless Midwestern morning.

Big_e 08-13-09 05:25 AM

Dark as always. Already hot this morning. I rode my Schwinn Super Letour SS conversion. Got chased by a small dog but he didn't stand a chance.

My ride felt easy for the first time today. Guess that's a sign to start going the long way.

canyoneagle 08-13-09 07:45 AM

Cool, dry, breezy....... getting darker. It won't be long before I need to dig out the big light and cold weather gear.

Allycat24 08-13-09 07:48 AM

Sunny with just enough clouds to make for a dramatic morning sky. To get on the MUP, I have to walk my bike up a short dirt path. I always pause on the side of the MUP and look behind me. Three mountain bikes whizzed by ringing their bells, even though I was looking directly at them. Oh well. They were really cranking, and normally I don't feel any inclination to pass anyone, but I just felt obligated this morning to pass those mtn bikes. QED -- passed all three in the next mile and had a very pleasant ride in the rest of the way. Of course, several people passed me, but that was okay...

HardyWeinberg 08-13-09 09:19 AM

My 1st day biking 4.5 yr old to her new school in the am (this is her 3rd week, I've taken her home a couple times but usually I get the 8 yr old who's on a longer detour from home and my wife brings her to and fro). Bringing both kids home tonight, mom is going to see some chick flick w/ a crowd from work.

I assume once the 8 yr old returns to school, trailering the 4 yr old will become my main gig, but we'll see. We could each take her one way (in to school is more uphill, so I think I know which way will be mine...)

Thick fog turned to definite mist by the time we got to her school but she had 2 blankets so was pretty comfy.

Lovely weather and 3 of us lined up on Williamsburg to cross over Old Dominion...bike commuter traffic!

Ka_Jun 08-13-09 09:44 AM

Starting to get dark, slightly muggy, foggy. Surprisingly, saw 7 other cyclists. Dropped a couple. Last night, a pair of roadies took umbrage at me bombing past them at the beginning of the MUP, they caught me after about a half mile.

jpdesjar 08-13-09 09:48 AM

Great!
I saw a buddy of mine riding this morning too.
The weater was just right.

pslotworks 08-13-09 10:16 AM

First Commute in six months. Felt great. I forgot how good I feel after riding in the morning. Weather was perfect just cool enought not to get hot. Also got to use my new NR cherry bomb tail light!

Just_Ryan 08-13-09 11:33 AM

Rode about 3km, then decided I'd like to try my seat a little higher. Stripped the seat post bolt and did the ride of shame back home to find a spare bolt. Couldn't find one, and did the drive of shame to work.

On the plus side, I moved last week and my commute went from 14km round trip, to 33km round trip, and I'm loving the extra bike time.
