Humidity dropped made for a nice ride in and not a bad ride home either. Tomorrow is suppose to be the same.. Maybe I'll ride my hipster wanna be.

Commuter76 08-13-09 08:54 PM

This morning was slightly cool and very low humidity. It was a great ride.

The afternoon was over 100 (not sure by how much), but at least the humidity didn't break 70% (I think).

Easy ride in and a beautiful morning. Yesterday the Washington Post reported on a new Bike center at
the Union station. It will be a place to lock bikes up inside, with 150 spots, and 20 outside. Union Station is a big commuter stop in Washington. It has a subway link a couple stops from a major metro hub, and all the commter trains stop there as well. The center will house a changing room, personal lockers, a bike repair shop, and bike retail stores. It's a small step, but a good one, and they are planning to put more
of these centers at other metro stops.

Normal commute...nothing special.

I got to the office and a woman I work with brought a pound cake in for everyone though! Not a bad end to a 14 mi bike ride.

jpdesjar 08-14-09 07:14 AM

Another gorgeous morning.
My legs are a bit tired, but it's the good kind of tired.
I am looking forward to doing a longish Saturday ride on some different roads.
Lately I have been trying to slow down a little and just enjoy the ride more. It's real easy to get caught up in the routine of commuting and rushing around with traffic.
I got into bike commuting to enjoy my surroundings more so I am making a point to do just that.

tarwheel 08-14-09 07:18 AM

I was so tempted to sleep in this morning and drive to work. But I got up and I'm sure glad that I rode. It was a beautiful morning with a pretty sunrise, clear skies, nice temperature in the low 70s and relatively low humidity. On top of that, nearly every traffic signal was green the entire way. I got to work in a great mood. Now, if the afternoon thunderstorms will just hold off ...

Doohickie 08-14-09 07:48 AM

I was running late today.... pulled into the office right at 8:00 am, didn't get to my desk until 8:20. Anyway, there was the most awesome rainbow for most of my trip.

...and at the end I got rained on.

Are you kidding? In SWFW? It was partly cloudy without a hint of impending showers when I rode out at 6:30...

canyoneagle 08-14-09 08:25 AM

yesterday's ride home was fantastic. Hot with some AMAZING thunderstorms hugging the entire Wastch Range. It got pretty windy as I neared my house (at the base of the mountains).
Shortly after I got home, it rained for the first time since mid-June, even if briefly. The smell was intoxicating.

Pretty normal ride in this morning.

squirtdad 08-14-09 10:35 AM

Friday, Sunny....not too hot yet, commuting in what I will wear to work Hawaiian shirt and shorts.

Life is good

Garlic 08-14-09 05:32 PM

Cloudy and cool. The perfect riding weather. Was told to "get on the sidewalk" by a guy in a pickup truck. Haven't heard that one in about a week...

Ka_Jun 08-14-09 08:07 PM

Last commute for a while. Got laid off, today.

Grim 08-14-09 08:43 PM

Nice ride in. Little warm on the way home but not bad for August in GA.

urban rider 08-14-09 09:30 PM

While riding to work I stopped to go tothe ATM machine. Some guy (who needs to ride, walk or run on a daily basis) told me I need to ride the sidewalk. He said it was safer. I told him that was not true. He became angry and insisted that I ride the sidewalk. I asked him "why are we talking? He walked off.

So, did you miss the gully-washer at lunchtime, too? I started feeling the raindrops just after crossing north over I-20 on South just after passing through your hood.

When confronted with this kind of logic I simply ask, "Are you a Cop?"

"Then mind your own affairs."

That sucks. Hope you find work soon. :(

Today, I rode my bike for the first time this week. Nice, sunny weather. The Cape Cod tourist season is at a boiling point- there were cars everywhere! Got to the parking lot and realized I forgot my cellphone... Oh, well! Anyway, I sailed through the workday and nothing got me down... 23 more days before Labor Day and the Mass Exodus from the Cape... The light at the end of the tunnel is visible!

acorn54 08-15-09 08:45 PM

well got up late for work today and thought i would n eed to use car, but with new bike being so much faster than my hybrid which was stolen a few days ago, i thought i would try to race to work on my 25 year old fuji 12 speed. well i made it with time to spare, boy this "new" bike is very fast. so much less effort to ride fast compared to the hybrid i had.
weather was humid and warm but we have had a mild summer here on long island this year and the hottest days are probably behind us. mid august already, boy this summer flew by.

03FinestAL 08-16-09 11:59 AM

Humid! After 1 1/2hr my jersey and bibs were completely soaked through and I was dripping (the light breeze/crosswind didn't help much). And I left at 0315....

eta- it ought to be quite a blast on the way home if we hit the 105-110 deg for the high today.

Thanks. Applied for unemployment and put in some applications.

fletchh 08-17-09 04:40 AM

A good ride in, warm 60 F (15 C). Traffic was not a normal morning for a Monday, it was less. Who knows what that means. I am back on my 21 year old steel pipe bike and made some good time this morning. I enjoyed riding my MTB for the last 3 weeks, but I am glad to be back on my other bike. Now,
I can put the MTB in the shop, and get some architecture work done and have it back for the colder temps.

vtjim 08-17-09 06:05 AM

Humid. I was on vacation last week, so this was unwelcome. Got to work rather damp and it took me about half an hour to feel like my core wasn't melting down.

I rode with a commuter on a road bike. He didn't know I was behind him until about 3 miles after I caught him. He turned his head and did a double take at me. :p Then he sped up from ~15 to ~20MPH but I stayed with him anyway. Not too close though. Eventually we split up, and then I saw him riding in to an office building behind my office building when I was already inside. I guess he wanted to take the more urban (and longer) route.

jpdesjar 08-17-09 08:17 AM

Warm ride this morning and I felt a little wobbly to start out.
I did a ride on Saturday morning but didn't ride on Sunday so my legs needed to get into the groove.
I put about 100 miles on the bike last week, which feels incredible.

truman 08-17-09 08:43 AM

Nice weather. Lost my headlight (weak battery) about a mile toward work, but I rode slow and made it in. It's on the charger I keep at work, but I'm pretty sure that particular NiMH cell is on it's last wheeze.

Rode in heavy with a couple weeks worth of canned soup, jar of peanut butter, a 12 pack of Diet Mt Dew, and clothes for a few days. Weight sure smooths out the ride of an old cannondale tourer.

Good luck.

I got up an hour late today, forgot to set the alarm. Managed to speed up the am and get in only ~20 min later than usual (~40 min late in absolute terms...).

Successfully talked my 8 yr old through shifting down to climb a dirt hill we have to climb for a construction site that sprung into our route, and back up again to regain speed on the other side (which is also the home stretch of his part of the morning). He knows how to shift, just doesn't view it as an active process, he pretty much shifts once per ride tops.

First commute ride in a week. We were in Beaverton, OR, visiting my wife's relatives. Took my road bike up there. I am most impressed with the cyclists and cycling culture up there. Lots of commuters, along with lots of racers, hipsters, mountain bikers and family riders. All with lots of rain and big hills.

Puts my flat, dry town to shame.

canyoneagle 08-17-09 12:36 PM

A recent cool front made for a chilly start to the day - low 50's F - I wore my windbreaker for the first time since May. I will need to gather my cool weather gear and "real" lights VERY soon.
Lots of runners this morning in the cool morning air.

The afternoon weather for the ride home looks to be nearly perfect........ mid 70's and sunny.:D

I used to live on the Cape. But I left in 2005, sure do miss all the beautiful places to ride. But I do not miss the tourist.
