1st ride in a week, after recovering from some cold/contagious malady. Cool, but I got a bit careless on the way in, went around a ped at a junction and made an old dude commuter wet his shorts and yell "pay attention to where you're going!" Sorry old dude, that was my bad.

8 yr old back on his own 2 wheels after a week of trail-a-biking while his splinted arm finished healing. Nice moderate weather this am.

Yeah. Still, no excuse not to stay frosty. Be careful out there, folks. It was weird, typically, I have the MUP to myself. Today, there were three of us at a junction. Dumb move, on my part.

Took Friday off so no commute, except that in the evening the kids wanted to take a postprandial ride and we ended up downtown at the Capitol anyway.
This morning I woke up late so I just came directly in, maybe I'll get a chance for a little detour tonight.

back on the bike after a week off. about 92 degrees, 20% humidity. still not too bad. 111 this afternoon, though. nice ride, a bit sweaty.

Back from a weeks vacation and couldn't wait to get back into riding. All was going well until I broke a spoke about half way in. Managed to open up the rear brakes and wobble in the rest of the way.
Strange thing is that my LBS didn't have bladed spokes in stock and that it would be a day or two before they could get it fixed. Now I'm on the backup ride.

The roads were a mess and the roads near my house are being milled so they're pretty rough right now. Hopefully things will get cleaned up fast and the new paved roads will be smooooooth...

One-footed commute
Two miles into my 10 mile commute my right pedal started to feel strange. Then strange turned into wobbly. After another few hundred meters or so I was into serious uh-oh territory as I could see the gap between the pedal and the crank-arm widen. Te pedal came clean off a few minutes later. Stripped threads on the crank-arm. My commute is on a path with no exits to roads for a long ways, so I was looking at a long walk to work. But with a gentle incline down most of the way and a good left foot with a clipless attachment, I figured I might as well try riding one-footed. Tricky, slow, and downright scary leaning over for the downtube shifter, but I made it without going down. Sure makes you appreciate bipedalism.

My ride was nice.. but this guy blew past me at over 27mph.. he completely dropped me like a fly. This was at the intersection of beach and 410 in maryland. And i in front of him at the light. The light turned and i took off at my pace, this guy took off really fast, and i tried to keep up for a bit. I looked down at my computer and i was at 27mph and the guy was just pulling, for the whole distance of the road he was just going at that rate it seemed. That is probably the fastest i've ever seen anyone ride a bicycle ever! K Kudos to whomever that was!

I didn't ride to work today- the stupid reason being that I couldn't find my yellow-tinted shades. My 9:30-6 shift ended up being 9:30-9 thanks to a sick call. I didn't work Sunday ( I went to see WWE Superstars at the Cape Cod Melody Tent) so I welcomed the overtime. I'm riding tomorrow- I need to work off the Chicago Classic pizza I had yesterday at Pizzeria Uno in Hyannis...

Nice ,safe(er) ride in and out thanks to new route(used www.ridethecity.org) to find it.
few steep hills that were fun with my newly bought(matte black) Specialized Sirrus, nice little zippy commuter bike.
only downside is having to shuttle across the queensboro bridge while they paint(>?) the ped/bike path

My first day back from vacation/holiday. The ride was easy this morning 65 F (18 C). Biking around
the finger lakes was pleasant, not to mention visiting the wineries. This time I worked Keuka and parts
of Senecca. I stopped in to Ithaca on the way out, and stayed a couple days. Ithaca has added a bike
lane down a main thoroughfare. I can see where the yellow double line was erased and moved 3 to 4 ft
the other way to make room for a bike lane. I wish Baltimore and D.C would erase some of their yellow
lines and move them 3 to 4 ft, to make room for bike lanes. D.C. should be the leader in architecting a
bike town. They have an admirable metro system, now all they need are bike lanes everywhere.

I was riding home from work yesterday afternoon and saw something "drop" out of some trees in front of me. Turns out it was a hornet or wasp, and it hit my face and tangled in my sunglasses. I tried to brush it off and nearly destroyed my sunglasses in the process. I managed to hold on to my glasses, but the hornet stung the hell out of me between my right eye and temple. That was about the worst sting I have ever felt, and I have been stung many, many times in the past. My commute home is about 50 minutes, and the side of my face throbbed all the way home. Amazingly though, my face wasn't even swelled up when I got home and the sting just looked like a little pin-prick.

Sunny, some headwind. Mid 60s. I saw two women stopped on a tandem, and a few riders going the other way. My rear brake was chirping (?) so I was sort of playing with it off to the side of the MUP, riding slowly, and a guy passed me. I got the brake to stop chirping (I need to adjust it properly here at work) and then caught the guy and rode with him. 13-14MPH. Relaxing, you might say.
Cleaned & lubed my chain last night so it was nice and quiet and smooth.

Generally pleasant except for the guy cutting the apex of curves on the MUP. If I hadn't been paying attention, which he wasn't doing, we would have both been headed to the hospital this morning. I imagine two cyclists colliding headon when each one is doing about 20 mph would hurt.

Another beautiful morning for bike commuting. I left the house earlier which was great because I felt less rushed. DJ Shadow was playing in my ears along the route. I got my new rear tire yesterday so I will probably install it in the next couple of days, there still seems to be some life left in the randonneur.

Somehow my derailleur cable snapped on the ride in. Had to do a 3 mile standing ride to an LBS to get a new one. Thank god there wasn't any major hills. Just got the bike dialed in the office. First time this happened to me. Go go shimano cables

I've had bees get caught in my helmet. That sort of thing is not conducive to focusing on the road!
Yesterday's ride home was pretty hot. near 100F (38C), hot breeze in the valley, baking sun on the hills. It was a nice sweat. I had a haircut appointment that I had to go to within 20 minutes of arriving home, so I did my best to cool down, and finished my shower with pure cold water.
Decent ride in this morning, about 15 minutes later than usual. Damn near T-boned a dude on a LeMond who blew through a stoplight as I was crossing on green, at a good clip (22-23). to his credit, he skillfully jammed on his brakes, with the appropriate rearward body shift. He stopped about a foot shy of where we would have collided. Close call.
As it happens, I rolled up to a light many blocks and a couple of turns later and he had just pulled up to the same light. I said "you almost got me there!" (in a joking voice) as I pulled up. He said "yeah that would've been ironic".
Pretty typical ride in other than that.

Last night, I hit 166 bpm, fast commute home. This morning, pretty empty, passed two other guys coming in, one dude on a cruiser, weaving around the path.
