AM commute
Thursday morning was nice. Low humidity, first time in at least 2 weeks. One long sleeve jersey, 65 degrees. Legs spinning nicely, 112 miles for the week, on 6 trips. :D
|
This morning was nice a bit less humid than usual. This afternoon was about 75degress and overcast, nice, until about 3 miles from home and it started pouring. It actually was a nice change of pace though. Im kind of a fan of riding in the rain now. Unless its really windy, or cold, or thundering and lightining haha.

Here is a story as a point of interest:
My co-worker started to bike to work (2 miles). She hadn't ridden a bike for a long time. She rode on sidewalks because the streets are very busy. She was crossing a street with the walk, and another car did a right turn on red without seeing her and hit her knocking her over. ambulance took her to the hospital Fortunately it wasnt that bad and she only had an injured ankle. she was very lucky. She was wearing a helmet and she said she was glad she was. At the scene , one cop said that it was illegal to walk on the sidewlk and was about to give my friend a ticket!! - the other corrected him and said it was ok. |
Yesterday my right pedal broke in the middle of a busy intersection, right by the freeway ramps. I had to walk to work today, 3 miles in the rain. I will probably have to walk for a few more days.
It feels weird not starting the day with an intense hill-climbing workout. |
Glorious ride home today. Sunny... Dry... 60s. I took a different way home just for a change of pace. Was booking along at 25MPH for a bit, chased down a guy on a 'bent, got into a "you first, no YOU first" wave fest with a driver while I was waiting at a stop sign. Driver had no stop sign. I won. Saw some beautiful young women running. Got home and poured myself a beer. TGIF!
 |
Nice ride home as usual. A bit warm at 113F.
|
perfect ride in. ride home was my first in the rain, and unexpectedly at 9 pm, but no big deal at all. i need a headlight though, my 3-led light ain't cuttin it...

Was it a dry heat? |
It was an easy ride in, but cooler temps, 58 F (14 C). I don't remember the last time I saw 50 something. It also, has been the coolest summer in recent memory. At least there is another
month of warm weather, then back to the 30 F (-1 C) mornings, which leads to the 5 F (-15 C) mornings. |
5o's this am. Glorios ride in. Only supposed to be 72 for a high today.
|
Nice this morning. Sunny, low 50s, with a tailwind. I passed 4 cyclists, including one guy on a 'bent pulling a trailer with really bright alternating blinkies on the back. The bike had two cranks on it, too. Interesting setup. Also saw bmike headed the other way. :)

Nice and cool this morning, no apparent humidity and breezy-it's already starting to feel like Fall. All in all I had a decent ride, however, my legs were a little tired from yesterday's swim (I'm trying to get into triathlon/aqua-velo shape after 3+ years out of the pool). It's also time to put the headlight back on (I've been using a strobe/led front light for added visibility only).

Undertook my first commute ever this morning and had perfect weather for it--60s, cloudy but not threatening. 7 or so miles from Crown Heights, Brooklyn to the Flatiron area of Manhattan. Plenty of zippy brakeless wonders coming over the Williamsburg Bridge, but I was happy to see a lot of beaters to match my own hardtail (I'm really gonna need something a little better suited to urban riding)...
|
The ride home friday was lovely until I got a slow leak in the rear tire, 4 miles from home. I was planning to replace the two spokes that had broken over the weekend, and didn't want to remove the rear wheel TWICE if I didn't have to (the Nexus roller brake makes curbside wheel removal and re-installation less than convenient). My wife was running errands in the area so she swung by and gave me a lift (otherwise I would've just taken the bus). It was a friday and I was DONE with my week.
Chilly and a bit hazy on the ride in this morning. I will absolutely need to get the 'big' light ready to go in the next few days. |

Your hardtail (I am assuming it is a mountain bike) is most likely a fine commuting choice. Swap out the tires for some puncture resistant slicks, mount some fenders and a rack, get a set of panniers, add lights, you're good to go! |

+1 on the weather for August in DC - got a late start since the wife was down this morning with a migraine (which means I just missed the back-to-school traffic.) Easy 4 miles in under clearing skies. Looking forward to the cool ride home.

A week of trailering my 4 yr old to her new school after a summer of riding w/ my 8 yr old to his summer camp. Faster average speed, and a shorter trip too (7 miles vs 12). This morning was foggy and warm (pushing 60F)
|
AWESOME! I poped a spoke on the homeward leg of my last commute last week which prompted me to confront my commuter bike's maintenance issues. Repaired, cleaned, lubed and shined her up over the weekend and enjoyed a smooth and silent commute in this morning. Clear skies and 60 degree temp didn't hurt either.
|
Was in the 60s today. Getting dim enuf to start using my blinkie. Last week I zip-tied the blinkie to the back of my saddle rack. (I've concluded putting blinkies on my helmet sucks.) I found a small long sleeved polo that fits snugly and is good under my flourescent t-shirt. Cool enough to start wearing gloves for my morning commute.
|
Hardest ride was to ride to the office this morning. Having a really hard time getting motivated after a weekend in Tahoe with the extended family. Lots of climbing, plus bombing around the trails with my five-year old bike-maniac, plus pulling his sister on the trail-a-bike.
|
hot. humid! nice to be back on the bike after a week off. saw two other commuters. one was wrong way on the sidewalk.... hope she'll be OK.... she was taking it easy, though. so was I.
|
nice cool fresh start to the day here in central CT. Rode the ss Puch to work today.
|
Same here , cool mornings and bright sunny afternoons.A hint of autumn in the air already.
I need a light jacket and gloves on the way in and just a t-shirt on the way back. And lots of water to drink too ! Today I made a big detour through the woods on my MTB , just for fun , I haven't been able to ride much besides commuting to work and I love to spend some time on the tracks through the forrest whenever I can . Cycling is great that way , just go out and ride . Tomorrow is a big day , my son goes back to school , the summer-holidays are over ! We had a great time , and he rides really well for a three-year-old , I am very proud ! |
Nice riding today.
My legs were a wee bit tired after a 30 miler yesterday, but I did ok. The rest of the week looks pretty stellar, looking forward to it. |
I rode the whole way home, as opposed to my normal bike/train or bike/carpool thing. 24.3 miles, 2h10m door-to-door, moving average 12.7 - a personal best for my commute!
|
Left work early. Flat tire and long bank line ensured no extra time though.
|
It was a chilly 54 F ( 12 C) this morning, but I refuse to give up my sleeveless shirts and shorts. The first couple hills are cold, but it gets warmer. It got pleasant going across an interchange
bridge with all the heat coming up from the cars below. Yesterday going home was bit challenging at one point. Some nitwit raced around me to get in front of me going down a hill, so he could turn right, which I already knew that I would have to avoid him, but he stopped for a pedestrian, and I had to swerve left and fortunately, I ended in a pocket between cars to get around him. Some driver really don't consider whats going on. |
Pushed too hard yesterday afternoon. Taking the long ride home kicked my tail. Short way in this morning. Surprisingly cool for this time of year. Almost wanted a jacket at the beginning of the ride. :)
