Wheel options - 700c and disc

I am looking for a replacement set of wheels for my Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra.

Hoping to find something lighter.

Thoughts?

I had some DMR Revolver 32-hole hubs built up with Sun CR18 rims. The Revolvers are light and are an excellent value. I haven't had a single issue with mine and I regularly hit some pretty nasty railroad crossings. You can get them from AE Bike and other places.

135 spacing, right? There are a lot of lightweight 29er wheelsets if you don't need to run too narrow of a tire. I have the XT 29er wheelset on my mountain bike, and I think it weighs in at about 1800 grams. You could probably run 28mm tires on it alright. They can be found online for around 600 dollars IIRC.

You can also always get some nice hubs laced to lightweight road rims, too. American classic hubs to one of DT Swiss's offerings, for example. It just depends on what you want to spend.

Bontrager Select Disc's. Same wheels that come on the Trek Portland. I have a set sitting here if I ever come up with something to stick them on . Pretty light wheels, but due to the way they're laced not for a heavy rider.

You might want to say how much you weigh, that will drive the wheel suggestions.

The select discs are 130mm spacing, though. I'm pretty sure the bad boy is just a 26inch mountain frame, so it has 135mm hub spacing.

I have two pairs of those wheels for my Trek Portland. The only thing I dislike about my Portland is the wheels. They're too heavy, won't stay true and break spokes with regularity. And yes, I had one set completely rebuilt by a competent wheelbuilder. It lasted about twice as long before it started acting up.

When yet another spoke broke JRA in a paceline last week, I bit the bullet and ordered parts for a new wheelset. Finding a 130mm rear hub for disc brakes was a real challenge. I don't know much about the hub I ordered, (a Velocity) but I'm sure I'll find out. I expect to save a pound (yes, 450 grams) from what the Bontrager Select Disc wheels weigh, and still have something stronger.

In a couple of weeks I'll be willing to part with a set of the Bonty's, as-is, pretty cheap.

700c/disc options

QBP sells Salsa Delgado rims on XT disc compatible hubs. I've been commuting on them for 5 years on 35c tires and they hold up to daily dirt road/detours/curb hopping gutter-bunny type rough treatment as well as the occasional single track work-out. I make minor adjustments to them less than once a year.

Whoa -- wait a minute! You started a thread -- what, around Sept 28? -- re. building a bike 'like' a c'dale BB only lighter. Turns out you have a BB Ultra??
Anyway, what year? Regardless, the BB Ultra is/always has been a light(ish) bike (frame and fork); the weight is, as you seem to know by implication here, in the stock wheelset, crank, etc. So, fwiw, you could easily get rid of some poundage by upgrading the stock crank (if you still have it) to, say, XT level external b/b, and ... the wheelset. Have something built; xt/xtr hubs (or King, etc -- whatever budget allows), a good, light 700c rim and d/b spokes. Just doing those things will knock a good 3 pounds or so off your bike. And, that's before you start getting rid of the heavyish stock seatpost, bars, etc. You should easily be able to get that bike down to 22/23 pounds.
Great bike, btw

MAVIC SpeedCity wheelset about 1900gm's
and about $430 for the set!
+ 8% for MP3 program <--- crash replacement program for 2 years

i think the wheelset comes up to be about $460 for the entire set with MP3.

I've used a set for about 5 years.

Yeah I have the BBU. It's a 2007.

It's a joy to ride but I am hoping to knock off a little weight. I thought a nice set of 700c wheels would be a start. Looking for a carbon crank and bars too.

Bikes: Yes

Have you looked at the new Kona Super Dew. It seems to be what you're looking for -- scandium frame, carbon crank and bars, light wheels. It's probably cheaper than trying to turn the C'dale into that.

https://www.konaworld.com/bike.cfm?content=superdew

It comes with FSA RD460 wheels. Amazon claims they're 1580 grams, though I have to say I'm skeptical.

...if you're thinking about buying a carbon crank (on a Bad Boy??), you should really just buy a road bike. The "endurance" road bikes have a more upright riding position than the "race" road bikes.

Of course, it's your money. Just sounds kind of crazy. If you replace your wheels, then start buying stuff like a carbon crank, you'll spend more money than just buying an entry level road bike outright.

I've got wheels similar to this stock on my Salsa La Cruz. My rims are Delgado "Race," but that may be what's on here. Some folks in some settings have described weakness in the Delgado Race. I've had no trouble yet in my under 400 miles on a new bike.

I'm going to scope the Mavic wheels mentioned, tho, as I wouldn't mind getting lighter, especially if the Delgado Race rims do develop a problem.

Thanks all.

That Kona Super Dew might be just what I am looking for. Also looking into the Cannondale Carbon Quick 1 and the Quick CX Ultra but the Kona looks a little more like what I want.
