Stainless is actually rather soft, as steels go. But still, steel would be a PIA to deal with.
At work I pointed out to the guy that locked his Bianchi to one of those wavy racks, that he locked is bike such that someone could simply lift it up and slide it over the rack (you know what I mean?) When I went out after changing, I noticed it was STILL like that. Granted, we have a guarded parking lot so there aren't random people coming and going, and from a distance it looks locked but.... still. He said he wasn't too worried about it because the frame is so big that few people could even ride it.... I joked, but it's just my size!
Now I hope it doesn't show up missing this afternoon!

my rule of thumb is.......if im riding something i care about or if i care about getting home.......lock it up with a ULOCK and never leave it from my line of sight or ....bring it inside with me.....
or you could try this:

i just got mine in the mail. IT IS LOUD....although very sensitive. IF someone were to lock up next to your bike and even touch your bike....this thing will go off. Its cheap and makes alot of noise. This should keep people away
Heck it is only 7 bucks.
Goofy....yes. Dorky....probably. Kinda cool....it makes the chip chrip noise
They have one that has a remote as well just like for your car.

What the heck. For 7 bucks & free shipping, I'm in. Not like I need to bump up the goof / dork factor any more here, but another layer of deterrence and alert strikes me as a good thing. This doo-dad, my front wheel's velo orange skewer, and a quick and simple u-lock while I go in to run an errand (out of immediate sight but probably not ear shot) sounds like a nice multimedia strategy.

ya it really screams....
it woudl make everyone within the localized area turn and go ....wtf is that noise?
If you set it off near yourself (like i did while setting it up) your ear drums will feel it
$7 you cant go wrong. If it doesnt work out...it will mount to just about anything else so it has about 1000 uses.
