Good 27 inch road tire recommendations?
For some reason my commuter with 27x1 1/4 tires gets more flats than the 700x23 tires on my "fun bike" even though I ride lots more miles on the fun bike. Got el-cheapo CST and Kenda tires right now (whatever the cheapest the LBS had at the time) and get the occassional metal thingy poking through to give me a flat which is annoying. Never had a flat from glass, but I guess I just jinxed myself into that happening tonight...
Thinking of some different tires, what are some suggestions for 27x1 1/4 or 27x1 1/8 tires? I like to take the commuter on a group ride sometimes and throw down, but the main thing is not wasting time changing flats...
Edited to add: Does inflation pressure change the likelihood of flatting from pointy stuff? These tires say 90 psi max on the sidewall, and I usually run around 85-90 on the back 80-85 front. I usually air them up if it's been more than a couple of days between the last time.

The higher the pressure, the more likely you are to flat on a pointy thing. How much more is up for debate. Skinny tires have a smaller "sweet spot" than big old balloon tires, which you can run at insanely low pressures, allowing them to conform to most pointy bits rather than get punctured.

I've had good luck with both Continental Gatorskins and Panaracer Pasela Tourguards. Both come in 27 inch sizes.

I'm running Panaracer Pasela TG's on my three bikes and both my wifes bikes. I just installed the PPTG's and removed the crappy Kenda's that came with the Windsor tourist after I had a flat yesterday. New tubes and tires so I should be good to go hopefully. I really like the ride of the Panaracer some say its a bit harsh but on our chipseal roads around here who can tell.

I have some Vittoria Zaffiros on my bike (27 x 1 1/8). I could not tell you if they resist puncture specifically (normally good at avoiding dangerous things), but I do ride around NYC quite a bit and have not had a flat on these tires (a few hundred miles in). I definitely like them so far, and think they are worth giving a shot.

I'm not the OP, but good to hear positive comments on the Pasela TG. I have a pair on the way to replace some 20 or so year old tires. Cross your fingers for no flats!

Pana Pas TG is great if you have a fat wallet. The Performance house brand with Kevar belt is also a good value for penny pinchers. You should be able to run at 70-75 psi if you're under 180 lbs. I'd add Mr. Tuffy or equivalent for a little more puncture protection.

I use Specialized Armadillos on both my road bikes (one is 27" and the other is 700c). I won't say they are indestructible, but I don't remember the last time I had a flat.
(edit) I run them at 100psi to 120psi.
