adding to stable, making sure of fair price.

hello fellow BFs posters, i'm seeking your infinite wisdom.

i'm picking up a 21.5" Trek 800 tomorrow, provided it's in as good condition as described. I'll be using this as a commuter, around town, and campus bike for this fall.

It's being offered for $100, so, assuming that it's in good condition, is that a fair price? it will fit, assuming 21.5".

also, any reviews of this bike as a commuter will be appreciated.

If it rolls, fits, and didn't originally come from WalMart, I'd say you can't really lose for $100.

If the bike is ready to ride, the price is fine. If it needs any repairs or tires etc i would say just a little high.

It's a $150 bike in the DC area if clean and working, so I'd say go for it. After ya offer $75 at least as a try

it was a rust bucket, with a messed up stem to add to that. I passed it up.

Bummer.

Nothing more disappointing than thinking you've found yourself a new bike only for it to turn out to be not what you'd hoped.

You could get from one side of Blacksburg to the other in three minutes on a dilapidated tricycle. When I was a student there (10 years ago) you could talk to campus security and buy the abandoned bikes they collected for a song. You might check to see if they still do that.

BTW - have a drink at the cellar for me. I miss that place.

Ok, if he has a drink for you at the Cellar, you have to have a beer and a chicken sandwich at the Hilltop for me (the same can be had at 74th Street Ale House, or the Columbia City Ale House). Great selection on tap, and one of the tastiest chicken sandwiches you'll ever eat.

Or

A burger and a beer at either the Elliot Bay Brewing Co., or Hale's Brew Pub. The law dictates that restaurants turn a burger into a well done piece of shoe leather here in BC.

none of these places still exist in Blacksburg, except the Cellar. Maybe i'm missing something, are these SUPPOSED to exist in Blacksburg?

also, the police still do the abandoned bike thing, it's through a surplus auction every few months. I got a bike there, that I think i'll use for campus.

When you start referring to your bikes as your "stable" you have too many bikes... although a Trek 800 is nothing to sneeze at.

Hmm. These appear to be English words, but when combined make absolutely no sense.

Nah - those are all places in Seattle. I live pretty near Elliot Bay - just ate there last weekend. I've never been to Hilltop. That's on Queen Anne, right? I'll have to check it out.

Good luck finding your new sweet ride nahh. Keep an eye out on Roanoke Street. The frat boys always sell their nice bikes when they run out of beer money.

now THERE'S some advice! I'll be sure to do that.

my 'stable' is a bit excessive, but I have no bike that I'm really comfortable leaving on a rack, which is why I want a random mountain bike.
