Thanks, canyoneagle! And thanks again for your help along the way. I am looking forward to seeing your Alfine buildup on the Vesta and also what you do with that sweet Marinoni.

As it happens, I finished the Alfine conversion this week. I took her out for a spin and everything was flawless. I posted some pics here:https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...got-a-new-ride
Thanks for PM'ing your drivetrain pics - they were very helpful for verifying my guesstimates for the conversion.

Keep us updated on the whole "keeps pants cleaner" thing. I just don't trust a bike that doesn't have some kind of chain guard for that purpose.

Will do. I imagine that during the winter some slop and road grit will stick to the belt and could therefore be transferred to a pant leg. The missing ingredient, of course, will be the chain lube. Civia makes a nice chain (belt?) guard for the Bryant. If they ever sell it as a separate accessory I may consider purchasing one.

I've pulled the fenders and rack off of my Vesta and put some 35mm cyclocross tires on to enjoy the last flash of nice Albertan weather. I've been riding alot of dirt paths and singletrack (and having a BLAST). Anyway, so far, the belt is staying clean - the finish on it seems to shed dirt really well.
The fenders and rack will go back on when the snow flies (I'll keep the CX tires on for winter), and we'll see how the belt does with real muck.

Oh, here's a pic of the Vesta in "Quasi CX" mode

The bike looks great, canyoneagle! Yours must be the smartest, most dapper CX bike on the trail. All you need now is a matching water-resistant, mud-shedding tweed outfit and cap.

LOL!
I use "Quasi" to not offend the real CX-ers. My cable routing is all wrong to be a true CX machine
That said, the bike does beautifully off road. I took it on some technical singletrack last weekend and it was up to the task. I brushed off my dusty mountainbiking skills - especially all those subtle things I'd learned from riding in the 80's before suspension became the thing.
The bike has great traction and balance offroad - the Vesta/Ceres frame is a great design!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and despite my abuse, my rear wheel is still dead-on true. It's nice to know I can still build 'em.
