You might want to check out Duluth Trading Co. The gloves they sell are for folks like carpenters who need dexterity. They are well built and don't have the mark-up a pure sports glove would have. Here's a pair that might fit your purposes: https://www.duluthtrading.com/80010.a...ended_products but there are others as well.

I junked my Izumi high tech handwear in favor of leather shell/wool inners. Gloves for moderate weather and mittens like that for real winter. I like it much better.

Bikes: Kona Dawg, Surly 1x1, Karate Monkey, Rockhopper, Crosscheck , Burley Runabout,

Try windproof fleece gloves, REI or such. I have had good luck with some windproof cross country ski gloves.

I do the same thing. Below 32f I break out my heavy-duty Loki convertible mittens which take me down to the negative digits. They are the bomb.

I just got a pair of the pearl izumi amfibs and am waiting to rock them. I bet I can go pretty cold with them and I want to see how far.
