Vain, But Lacking Talent
I hate new years resolutions. I made my resolution (you know, just a plain, run of the mill type resolution) 2-3 months ago to start commuting. When I was about 6 years younger and riding a lot, I was 175 pounds. This is why my ticker has that goal. I honestly thought if I rode 3 days a week to school (was 10 miles, now 7) that I could be close to the 200 mark by Christmas. Whoops. Maybe if I had changed my diet....
Anyhow, I've been hovering between 217 and 218, so my current goal is to get to a solid 215 by new years.
So who's with me? How many pounds do you want to loose by new years?

I dropped from around 220lbs to just below 200lbs in a year or so and then it stopped. I can't get any lower than 195lbs and I started watching my diet too. I wish to be 175-180 too. The first 20lbs are easy, then you hit a plateau and it requires more effort. Depending where you are in your weight loss progress those few pounds can very easy or very hard to drop.
So it's not realistic for me to make such resolution. Although, I plan to ride all Winter, snow or not, like the last one. It was a huge thing to for me because I normally put lots of weight on during Winter. This was the first Winter that I actually lost weight!!!
Good luck!

Yes, the first pounds are the easiest. The last 20 is brutal. I've been on diet for 5 years. I think I'm the only cyclist who can ride a 100 miles and gain weight.Originally Posted by AdamDZ

That's really not a New Year's resolution, more of a goal for the next month. Keep an eye on what you eat and exercise regularly and you'll see results!
My New Years resolution is to drink better bourbon!

I'm with you, my goal isn't so much a weight losing one, but to keep riding all winter. Starting today (literally, this afternoon I winterized my commuting bike and added a computer), I've declared my resolation as 1000 miles before April!Originally Posted by AdamDZ

Ha, just realized I wrote this post like a couple of hours before I busted my rear wheel on my commuter! Now I'm waiting for a wheel build from the local shop (rim needed replacing anyway). Finals are this week and are keeping me plenty busy, but I'll have to make sure and put in the miles on a trainer or on the roads on my weekend warrior bike.

How long is your commute? 1000 miles in 4 months is a reasonable and a realistic goal. My commute is 8 miles each way so that's at least 320 miles month, plus some errands and weekend rides and it probably adds up to close to 400 miles a month (more during warm months).Originally Posted by Alan@TreeFort

This bike is cat approved
I would be happy if I didn't gain any more weight before new years. I want to loss that last 15 pounds, but this last month I gain back almost 5. Colder weather, bad eating, Christmas parties...it all adds up. blagh. My wife and I opened up our Christmas presents last night and I got a new computer monitor so I might actually watch my basketball games online while on the trainer. Thats good news.
I am a caffine girl
I only have two.
The first one is the same as last year......stop buying another bike! I did ok because I only bought one this year. The second resolutions is to cut down on buying flashlight. I got this thing about lighting up the road. I think I try to limit myself to a Cree XM L this year (yeah right!.....eye rolling)

I can't wait for the new year to implement the century a month pledge and to up my monthly mileage by 50%. After acquiring a Garmin 500 this fall, I am looking forward to tracking every mile, down to the bike that logged the miles. I am stuck at 185 lbs (6'1"), but would like to get to 175. Those last ten are hard (down from 240 or so).
Oh, and to get a new bike.

I noticed my waistline getting a little slimmer but realized my weight went up. (Not really watching too much on diet at the moment)
Setting it more practical is to lose 2 inch in pant size by end of next year. Would be still 2 inch larger than when I was in High school exercising 4-5 hours a day but I would be extremely pleased with that.

My commute is 8-12 miles each way, depending on how late sleep in! 1000 miles is definitely realistic for me, but enough to keep me pushing it. Due to circumstances I am unable to ride everyday. I'm shooting to ride in 3 out of 5 days a week, and get 20-30 mile rides in on my days off.Originally Posted by AdamDZ
