since i dont have to commute anymore (working from home) but i do have to run errands around town alot.....
i was riding in a bike lane, separated and everything.... my own private lane.... and i stopped at a light, next to a metro bus. the guy opens the door and starts yelling at me that i need to get behind him, and if he's in the lane, there isn't a 3rd of the street for me to be there. i was like ?!??!?! i told him "hey man, i have my own lane here..." "i can't see you unless you're behind me" he yelled "how'd you know i was here then?!" and i rode off. still confused about what he was thinking  |
My commute today was great; the new freewheel (now 25-13 was 34-14), got rid of the suspension seat post, and new saddle all worked great to give me 5 minutes less commute time in both directions, even though it was over 90 on the way home :)
I raised the saddle about ½" after I got home, felt a little low. I am taking tools with me in case I am wrong. |

Too bad your response wasn't: " Just stay behind me, and you'll see me fine :) "

The commute this morning was wet. Before I even left town it started drizzling. At first that wasn't too great, but after a while it actually helped cooling me down. About 30km into the ride it stopped drizzling for 5 minutes, after that the drizzling started again. It was alright, I've had worse... With about 10 minutes to go until I arrived at the office, the drizzling stopped. There was a nice, cool wind, which actually dried my clothes a bit.
So this afternoon it's on again. As promised by our awesome weather forecasters (who apparently are always wrong these days) this afternoon there will even be some sun, with a temperature of around 20C. |
A bit humid here and about 70 degrees, my T shirt is soaked this morning. Kinda strange, lots and lots of people walking. Right at first before I got a mile out I passed someone walking. As I turned on an unlit road I noticed someone walking about a 100 yards up the road. I passed him at speed cause it was odd to see someone walking there, he yelled out asking me the name of the street. I told him and kept pedaling, I still have the feeling he was trying to get me to come back and talk to him. Then I found and iPod in the middle of the street, looked like it would probably work so I moved it off the street where someone looking for it could see it but it still would not get ran over. Instead of the 1 or 2 people I usually see this time of the morning I bet there was 25 or more. Kinda strange. Very nice if a bit damp ride in.

Another very nice morning at 68F (20 C). There were a couple srinkles, but nothing that made a difference. Rain all week so I will wait to see which storms I get caught in or I am able to avoid.

Nice ride home last night, smooth and easy commute in the warm humid air this morning. I'm changing up my routes more often.
Some knucklehead left their bike at our work rack, been sitting there occupying prime real estate for two weeks now. :( |
Yet Another Glorious Day. :) Sunny. 56F/13C, no wind. There has been a trail hottie out on the MUP for the last 2 or 3 morning commutes. Runner. Blonde. Not hard on the eyes from any angle. :p
Also saw bmike riding the other way and we exchanged hellos. |
Legs still tired this morning from a tough metric in hot, humid weather last Saturday. I expected as much yesterday but thought my legs would feel fresher today. Not, but it could also be the weather -- hot and humid again. We have had just as many 90+ days this year so far as in 2010, which shattered the all-time record for 90+ days here. I was hoping last summer was a once-in-a-decade occurrence, but I'm afraid it might be the new norm with climate change.
|
53F A bit warmer today, first day of summer and supposedly tomorrow we will be in the mid 90's which is confusing since we've only had two days in the 80's so far this year. Also I have a squeak coming from so where and it's driving me nuts I've been searching for the source for two weeks now and still haven't located:notamused:

I've been tweaking the positioning of my handlebars the last couple days and I'm getting close to the sweet spot I think after changing the angle of my butterfly trekkking bars. This contributed to some good rides last night and this morning, although it's starting to get muggy...
Brooks B17 is "Out For Delivery" to my office according to UPS tracking. Should have it conditioned and installed for tomorrow's inaugural ride! :) |
Had a great morning ride in something approaching 20 degress C. Spectacular morning in Southern Ontario.
Also set a new personal best for the commute of 61 minutes over 28km. Then since I was early, I took a spin around the Barrie Lakeshore Trail to cool down and throw a few extra km onto the day. Would rather have just kept riding all day than head inside, but ain't no one gonna pay me for that! |
Ride in was nice, mostly. I missed the rain. I brought the front panniers to work in case I needed to stop at the grocery store on the way home.
|
Got to my usual lock up and saw a new matte black Fuji track singlespeed w/ white grips, rims, chain and cranks locked up w/ a new U-lock/cable combo. It was parked next to the green Pista singlespeed w/ leopard print saddle. Next to those two, my beat up looking fixed gear w/ rack, folding basket, fenders and torn up bar tape looked pretty unfashionable, but hey, at least we got another rider on the streets.
|
A little moisture left on some of the trails but nothing serious. A nice commute today, my only regret is that I chose to drive part-way. I always want to ride home the whole way but at 6am I don't feel like riding straight out the door when I'm still feeling sluggish.

55F, foggy

No energy. I actually decided to check rear brakes to make sure they weren't rubbing on the rim. That's how sluggish I was feeling.

nice and warm. was sweating non stop and was wondering why till when I found out it was 90+ on the way back home. Summer has finally came.
|
A nice ride in at 70 F ( 21 C). Expecting thunderstorms going home, so I will play the wait and see game, along with judging a window to bolt.

Yesterday's commute had light rain in the morning, clouds around in the afternoon, was under 100 degrees in the afternoon (for the first time in over a week), and didn't have afternoon wind gusts close to 40 mph (for the first time in 5 days). What a concept!

I've had those days. I choose to blame them on the headwind (even if the leaves in all the trees are dead still) after I've checked for brake rub.
I broke 2 spokes on my commute to work yesterday! 2!!!! Fortunately I work in a bike shop  and I was able to fix it before I clocked in. Not commuting anywhere today though my raving-lunatic best friend and I might go out for a ride in the drizzle/light rain/torrential downpour ("variable rain," per Channel 5). Hell, I might go out anyway. I've gotten soft on myself lately. |
Good ride home yesterday although some construction requires detours in DC.
I resumed my morning running routine today so it was up and out for 3 miles and then on my bike to work by about 06:15...I can see where those Tris's could be a real challenge! |
Beautiful.

Nice weather indeed. But had two d-bag motorist incidents.
First, a dude in a yellow Toyota FJ Cruiser  turns left in front of me from a middle lane where you can't turn left from. I was turning left from the left hand turn lane. Caught up to him shortly after at a red light, after he'd sped up to overtake about 5 cars from the right lane at a previous light. Second, as I'm cycling with traffic through congested Washington Circle, some dude in a silver Porsche  decides he can cut in front of me and force me to brake (because we all know you can go much faster than 16mph in a car in three lane traffic circle) and turns out he can't drive anyway because he almost hits another car 2 secs later while trying to merge over again. He got honked at by the other driver. I wish there was some way to mete out some justice. Y'know like leaving a kryptonite lock imprint on the trunk. :D Just kidding. My critical mass days are way behind me. |
