Volunteered at the co-op this afternoon and while I fielded questions and showed people how to do this and that finally got around to re-lacing the front wheel on my '57 PLX8 so now both the wheels are now looking as good as new.

Was a scorcher of a day but the riding was beautiful.

Good ride in with great temps 71 F (22 C). I saw 3 other cyclists around 5:30 am this morning, one going across an interchange bridge, and 2 others dealing with a residential hill. I was on the down side and it is nice to see someone else working that hill, besides me every afernoon. Unusual for early morning, but good to see.

Muggy. Not really warm, but too humid. Upper 60sF/~20C with a squirrely wind. Blonde Trail Hottie was much further north than she usually is. She always looks so dour. It makes me want to stop and cheer her up.

It's "Thunderstorm Roulette Season" in NC. Every day there is a threat of thunderstorms, often severe. If I didn't ride every time the forecast called for afternoon t-storms, I might as well quit bike commuting. Yesterday I flinched and drove because the forecasters were going bonkers about all the storms that were supposed to hit. We ended up getting a sprinkle about lunch time and that was it. I'm back on the bike today, despite the forecast calling for 60% chance of t-storms. Hopefully my luck will hold.

Very rainy this morning. The thunderstorm was just starting as I was getting out the door, and now it looks like it's almost over 70f, no wind to speak of, and the cagers weren't crazy today, so all-in-all it was a great ride. I even got to see some great lightning!

On last night's commute I think I may have interrupted a little drug deal. Came across a couple of scrawny teenagers looking a little worse for wear lurking in the shadows. This was on a short trail that linked a couple of relatively affluent neighborhoods.

This morning was sunny, 15C, and calm. It felt like I had a light headwind, but I think it was more that I didn't have a tailwind. Today is the last day on Sixty Fiver's loaner single speed. It's been a nice experiment, and I'm satisfied that it can be done, but I'm not sure that it would ever become my preferred commuting bike. I'd still like to try commuting on a fixed gear, just for the heck of it.

Uneventful ride except I forgot my water bottle. Lot's of bikes out.

Super tired when I woke up but by the time I got going, I was going faster than usual. A little warm.

Aside from tired legs and a pedestrian walking against a light directly into my path, it was a good ride today. The weather is perfect.

I was able to avoid the rain in the morning, not sure if I will be able to also avoid it in the evening. The boot I put in yesterday is still holding strong.

Barely missed a thunderstorm on the way home... decided to just take it slow and enjoy the ride. Didn't feel like pushing it.

I enjoyed it greatly even though it was hot. For work I drove some folks from NW Missouri to the state capitol and back. During that time a thunderstorm came and went so the sun came out as I got out of work. Humid but better than lightning on the ride home. Ride carefully and God Bless y'all.

The ride home was zen. Lots of MUP traffic between downtown Burlington and the major city beach. The beach muppets are easily spotted, with their towels and their flip-flops and their mind-boggling 6MPH speeds. But, I relaxed and enjoyed the occasional pretty girls. Once the trail opened up, I spooled up the FTL leg drive and had a quick ride. One young woman who passed me while I was zenning got reeled in and dropped like a hot rock. The weather was great. I'm happy it's almost the weekend again.

I used to ride my fixed gear bicycles nearly 10,000 km a year when I had a longer commute... never had so little maintainence to do in my life.

Pleasant this morning. Coolish, with temps around 60F/15C, and no wind.

I passed a very wobbly woman on a bicycle with one pannier, a trunk bag, and a large backpack with a silver terrier riding in it. Never seen her before. Strange.

Silly Commuter Racing, Friday Edition.

I noticed something dark behind me a bit, so I went just fast enough to keep it from getting any closer. Eventually there's a section of the MUP that's all torn up with a a lot of standing water and requires a trip through dirt and gravel and I slow down to about 10MPH for that. Shadow, of course, catches up to me in the middle of this. Roadie! I got out of the crud and put some distance between us in a hurry. Win!

What's a scorcher up there -- 75 degrees? We've had highs in the 90s almost continuously since mid-May in NC. ;-)

Tough start to my day, like having Monday on Friday. I've been riding my touring bike all week because my main commuter is in the shop. This morning the pressure in the rear tire was very low, so I suspected a flat would be imminent, so I swapped all my gear to another bike. That took a while since I ended up swapping gear twice after changing my mind about which bike to ride. It was extremely humid here this morning, so I was drenched in sweat before I even left the house. All the gear swapping and tire pumping made me about 30 minutes late, and of course I caught every red light on my commute. The humidity was so high it felt like tropical storm weather, and indeed the forecasters are saying we could have a tropical depression swing through the area tomorrow.

I am hoping my luck will be better this afternoon because backup bike that I rode has no fenders. We have had daily afternoon thunderstorms all week, but fortunately I have not been caught in any so far.

Actually...yes.

Turns out I had Sixty's SS one more day. Ride started out pleasant enough, 12C, cloudy, hooray for tail winds! About 10 minutes to go, I started feeling light sprinkles, and I was really hoping to beat the rain, but I didn't. Actually, I think I just caught up to it.

A fine commute this morning. I rode despite the weather pundits' predictions of violent thunderstorms. I might regret it this afternoon, but c'est la vie. Did any of the other DC folks see the two unsaddled (presumably park police) horses grazing in the field near the Lincoln Memorial (adjacent to the Independence Avenue side of the erstwhile reflecting pool)? That was definitely a sight I've not seen before.

Apparently I caught the draft of some experimental low-flying aircraft for a round trip to Dallas, at a little over Mach 10 (presuming near sea level).

Coming up Pacific Ave, twice someone going the same direction as me wanted to turn right. Both of them stopped, signaled, and waited for me to go by.
There actually are some nice drivers out there!
Forecast today 95°, nice after 100°+ all week.

3/4 of the way done with my "double" The short ride in between job sites (6blocks) was a bit shaky as I've now been awake for 30 hours and this is the second time this week I'll be up for more than 36hrs. I think I may take the bus home later this afternoon.

It was a short commuting week for me with the holiday on Monday, but I did ride to work the other four days, 98 miles worth. It was a nice 80 degree ride in this morning at dark-thirty and will be a nice balmy 105 degree ride home this afternoon.

What struck me looking at those numbers, aside from the incredible distance and speed, was it appears that you had a whopping 26 minutes of non-moving time. Are those numbers correct? You must have a ton of traffic lights. I think that much waiting time would drive me nuts.

55F, grey. I don't know why I was so beat going home last night, but I was, and the headwind didn't help.
