Recommend a good/inexpensive iPhone handlebar mount?

Found a nice little app called cyclemeter that records stats like average speed, distance, elevation changes, etc. You can save different routes so you can compare your stats over time. It also shows the route on a map. There's quite a few options.

Anyway, I'd like to be able to see it while I ride so a mount would be really nice. Doesn't need to be waterproof. I can keep the phone in my bag when it's raining.

Eventually I'd love to get an Ant+ system that would let me record heart rate and cadence but that's a little spendy for me right now.

Bikes: 2010 Fuji Absolute 2.0

You should get a RAM mount. I have a Garmin eTrex mounted to my Fuji's handlebar using a RAM mount that I used to use on my motorcycle.

They're available from a number of places, but in my experience GPSCity.com has the best prices.

iPhone 3/3GS mount:

iPhone4 mount:

If you Google around you can typically score a 5 or 10% off coupon too. Google "gpscity.com +coupon"

Cyclemeter is great! I've been using it for a little over 1 month.

I am using the Ibera iPhone bike mount. I have the stem mount version but you can get a handlebar version as well. I grabbed mine from Amazon:

It works great. I ended up getting one for the friend I commute with as well.

Bikes: 2010 Kona Dew Drop (the daily driver),'07 Specialized Roubaix (the sports car), '99 ish Kona NuNu MTB (the SUV), Schwinn High Plains (circa 1992?) (the beater)

I don't have a recommendation for, but I have one against: The mount sold by ThinkGeek.com is not terrible, but is nowhere near durable enough for everyday, all weather use. I've broken it twice in 'normal use' and once in a minor tip-over.

wouldn't it be better to watch the traffic for your safety, and not your phone screen?

Yeah, I was expecting a post like this and I understand what you're saying. However, I'm willing to bet that your eyes wonder from traffic now and then to take a look at the scenery or something else. There's a good chunk of my commute that's on a bike trail. Besides, I'm mostly interested in this for longer rides when I'm not having to worry about traffic very much. Just like my cyclocomputer I'll pay little, if any attention to it while mixing it up in traffic.

What's nice about an iPhone (or any smart phone) is the HUGE backlit screen as compared to a standard cyclocomputer. Instead of fumbling with some tiny buttons to turn a backlight on or switching what's displayed I can see what I want at a glance.

I totally get that some folks don't give a rip what their average time is or whether today was faster than last week, but information like that is a great training aid.

For my its just a cyclometer which has the advantage of emailing me stats and updating a site. It's only glanced at once in a while for either speed or avg speed. I just like to have it there so I can get a speed reading off of it.

Sounds like that one has a protective cover. Can you start/stop cyclemeter through it or do you just use the earbud remote? Otherwise it looks like it's exactly what I'm after. Thanks !

Everything works through the plastic screen protection part.

The only thing you can't reach are the side volume buttons but you really shouldn't need those while on a bike.

I do everything via the screen.

To add to that, I use the screen quite a bit through the plastic when stopped. I have a friend I commute with and whoever gets to the meeting point first is usually clicking an email link and accessing the map to see where the other is along the route to decide if we are waiting. I don't recommend doing things like that while moving, but the phone is very functional through the protective plastic.

I think CycleMeter can announce some of those stats, so if you want to just crank up the volume (or if you're wearing earbuds) it can just tell you what's up.

That's actually a very nice feature and works better than I thought. You can set it to make the announcements at whatever interval you like. With an earbud stuck in one ear and the remote you can get stats on demand by clicking the remote button. It's sometimes hard to hear though and I wouldn't want to use the announcements while riding in a group.
