monday commute is the hardest. :(
how hard is it for everyone to get on that bike monday morning and commute to work after a 70+ mile ride on sunday?
i was so tempted to drive to work but i decided to just take my time and go a bit slower pace than usual this morning.

No problem at all. I often do 100 milers on sundays and never had a problem with getting up early on monday and riding to work. The most important thing is good nutrition, hydration and mental attitutde.

and rest. Make sure that immediately following a hard ride on a Sunday like that you get proper nutrition and then get a good night's sleep. If you don't give yourself those necessities Monday's commute will be more of an ordeal than a nice recovery ride.

i went on a 50 mile casual speed ride with some decent hill climbing with a group. then when i got home i decided to go for a time trial for 28 miles. i was pretty much out the whole day and i think the exhaustion from being out all day just kicked in.

Commuting is not a race... you have to rest, take it easy on the way in if you had a long weekend. I know I personally get fatigued earlier in the week if I don't rest, and I take shorter routes when I know I've had a long mileage weekend.

Once a month , I just take one day off and be lazy all day. After commuting and running errands 5 days a week, sometimes I will take a saturday off and just stay home a be lazy and do absolutly nothing all day, then on sunday morning I am off on my long distance ride.

Monday's commute is the easiest, because I haven't ridden since Friday and I really want to get back at it.
I don't know how people have time to ride a bike on the weekend, I've got way too much crap to do. I have to plan my day around when I have daylight, saving indoor tasks for after the sun goes down.

The thing is, I love to ride and there are way more interesting rides around here outside of my commute. I make time to bike on the weekends, even if that means getting up at 5am to sneak in a ride before everyone else gets up.

What a great feeling!

Then something - an epiphany? You guys? I don't know what - but something clicked in my head and said, "You got it all backwards, mate," and I decided to start commuting by bike. Now I can get in up to 210 miles per week (depending on how many days I want to ride), I am going to bed at a decent hour during the week, and on the weekends I am both next to my wife when she wakes up (
Everybody wins, and lives happily ever after, right?
Anyway, in relation to the original post, I know that this is only my second week (And I didn't ride 70 miles yesterday) but I was up like a shot this morning.
What a great feeling, knowing that any day I want I get to ride my bike!

"Make time" assumes that's even possible. The only way I could have enough time would be to get up really early, and I think that would destroy my health since I'm already shorting myself on sleep all week. Saturday and Sunday are the only days that I get 7 or more hours, and by then I really need them.
