A helmet Poll for us commuters....

Okay, another (hopefully) fun thread....

Beings that most of us here on the Commuting Forum are into more function than fashion...

1)What helmet do you use?

2)What did you pay for it?

3)And when/what will make you decide to replace it?

I'll go first:

1) Giro Stylus, bought spring of 2010

2) On sale from Performance for $50

3) Most likely will replace this winter and keep the old one for a spare.

Bikes: I have five of brikes

1) A Bell Ukon FS (a basic all black el cheapo supreme).

2) 25 bucks on sale at Performance.

3) I got it a couple of months ago after I got hit by a bus and went down hard with my old helmet (bike was totaled ). My old helmet was a basic Bell el cheapo supreme as well. I won't spend real money on a helmet. It's foam; who spends $100+ on foam?

Pryme 8 helmet, black with stickers

$20.00 Since 2005. It's my spring-summer-mild fall helmet. I need to replace it soon but I haven't found a spare moment to try on every type of helmet in the lbs to find the right one.

I also have a skid helmet by Pryme I wear during cold weather. I love the ear covers.

1. 1992 Rhode gear
2. I can't remember what I had for lunch a week ago.
3. I only pull it out for occasional group rides where helmets are mandatory and commutes on snow/ice, should last me another 20 years. The stickers help with the UV degradation.

or I may buy a Bern Brentwood for the winter, but I will not wear a helmet in the summer unless it is for something really fun like UAR.

Or, when I absolutely have to replace it. Whichever comes first.

1. Giro Section

2. $30 (employee discount)

3. Giro has a new skate-style helmet out which includes a molded brim. Will probably get one next year, if we don't start carrying Nutcase in the meantime -- would be all over a Glo-Brain helmet in a heartbeat.

I'm embarrassed to say:
Giro Ionos
$180 (on sale)
When I crash it or (honestly) when the styles
change enough that another one looks cooler
(or so I think)...
Well, it does have lots of good vents. $200 worth? Hmmmmm... Prolly not. But it is pretty. As far as brain buckets go (and I'm a Neuro nurse, so NO chance you'll see me out without one!)...
