Nashbar has a bunch of frames on cheap right now including my bike's frame, the Schwinn World DBX disk. $75 for a bare frame. I might pick one up as a backup I like this for commuting so much. The have two different years of it.

Anyone know what kind of tire clearance these have? I have some 40mm studded tires that barely squeeze into my current frame. Could really use something that has a bit of extra space so I can have fenders as well.

I know the cheaper mongoose disc frames had 42 mm tires on them stock if that interests anyone.

they have both a SS frame which can be set up as a multispeed and that the one i know had 42 mm tires stock and they also have a mutispeed frame too. I doubt they are different except color. Here are links.

Also one of the other steals is the GT GTR Series 1 road frames for $99. I thought it looked cool and I checked it out and its a full Carbon frame. I hope the 58 fits because I ordered one. =P

Since the SS frame lacks horizontal or sliding dropouts it must use an EBB to maintain chain tension. I can't see the multi-speed frame using an EBB. It would be nice to see pics of the bare frames.

I just popped the rear wheel and measured mine (It's the first link I posted). The bottom chainstay clearance at the center of the tire is about 45mm. I'm running a 28mm tire with full fenders on mine. I could see a 42 fitting without the fender. The seatstay clearance is huge. It does require a 130mm rear hub.

Thats a good point I had forgotten about that. It kinda made that singlespeed a great deal when it was just over $200. I don't care for disc brakes, but I wouldn't order even the multispeed frame without confirming about the bottom bracket situation.

I had so many windows open and trying to figure out what to order and I did have some need for some frames since I have some parts that could used them. I don't know how well GT I got will work out and I wish I would have maybe ordered one of the $25 frames, but I wanted to make sure I got one of the carbon ones becasue they were going fast and I think I got the last 58 because I would have ordered 2 of them if I could have. Before figuring out to just get that I was on overload trying to figure out what to buy with so many options.

The Mongoose Sabrosa frames have something called a "Slot Jocky-ITS" system which seems to be an EBB of some kind. They sold the Sabrosa as a 3 X 8, an SS, or with an 8 speed Alfine.

After researching and agonizing because they didn't have any mediums, I decided to go ahead and get a small figuring it might work better for a drop bar anyway. Unfortunately they sold out. Friday morning they had more, but I got an error about insufficient inventory before I could complete the order. After that they were listed as sold out again. Finally this morning I was able to order one.

I looked and looked at Mongoose's size specs for a similar model and measured my bikes which are already both a little on the small size for me. I figure if worse comes to worse I can turn it into a bike for my son when he gets a bit taller.

Very stoked about it though. I've been looking for a 700c aluminum frame with wide tire clearance and disc mounts. I won a $100 gift card at an LBS so that'll be good for one disc caliper and I have a few parts lying around.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up. Can't hardly go wrong on a $24.00 frame that totaled $42 including shipping.

I ended up not getting my GT frame they sent me an email saying they were sold out and they had shipped the rest of my order. I am disappointed, but the good news is I don't have to find stuff to put on it.

I wouldn't be surprised to get a similar message. How long did it take after you placed the order for the email to show up?

How can you tell if any of those frames come with a fork? Some of them look like it would be a pain to find a matching fork

the gt series 1 is an aluminum frame, not a carbon.

I bet you are safe but I got an email the next day saying what shipped and what didn't.

The one they had when I ordered was the 2007 GT Carbon series 1. The full bike is in the link below. The GT GTR series 1 frame they still have in stock is aluminum as you stated.

I have a DBX Super Sport. Front would depend on the fork,but the frame would prolly fit a 35mm slick or 32mm knobbie in the back.

My Sabrossa frame came last night. When they said "frame only", they meant it !

This frame uses an EBB and it didn't come with the insert. I guess that shouldn't have surprised me but I wasn't counting on having to find one of those when considering all the parts I'd need to complete the bike.

That'll add another $60 to $120 to the cost and probably means I'll wait until spring. I had toyed with the idea of putting all the stock parts back on my winter bike and selling it to subsidize the build of the new bike but I'm going to have to save some additional money and I don't want to be rushed.

Even though the frame was intended to be a Sabrosa SS (single speed), they did include a derailleur hanger which was nice. It was built in Taiwan rather than China like I had expected so that's another plus. And I like the way it looks, -just polished aluminum covered in clear coat. It's not super light at 4 lbs. but weight wasn't my main concern.

My GT Legato frames ($49) arrive today and there will be pictures forthcoming for the builds. The challenge for one of the frames was to see if I could build a bike entirely from garage stock, which I can do. The other frame will be a possible road build as I found some new Microshift white 10 speed levers for $75 on eBay. A winter project, if you will.

Worst case I build them up and flip them on the CL for a handsome profit.

I looked at the Legatos too but I already have a very similar bike. Had I not recently sold a set of Sora shifters and a spare drop bar, I would have had everything I needed except brakes calipers, seat post/saddle, and bar tape. I suppose I could have done that, sold it, and made enough off the proceeds to be able to finish the Sabrosa.

For the Sabrosa I need a disc compatible front wheel, disc brake calipers, fork, headset, ebb insert, seat post/saddle. All I really have is the rear wheel/IGH, handlebars, brake levers, and stem plus a $100 gift certificate to a local bike shop.

Those Legato frames looked nice. I will be interested to see one built up.

Since I didn't get the frame I wanted the most exciting thing in my shipment was one of those purple Nekkid 3 singlespeeds which I picked up today and assembled. Its actually pretty nice for about $200 and it rides pretty smooth. Its probably not a keeper, but I wouldn't mind if nobody wanted to buy it from me.

Removed the frames from their boxes last night and I have to admit they are sweet frames. I may have to go back for more if Nashbar has a sale this weekend and there are any frames left. The welds are not only clean, but flawless - some kind of joint smoothing technology. I got each in a different shade of dark grey, the paint job is really nice, and the frames were packed very well. I can't complain, but I want to make one a true roadie and that is hard to do with the canti pegs in the rear, but standard road brakes have a place too. My stable currently contains a road bike with canti pegs, and I use V-brakes on that. It was the Nashbar FB-1 in a 57cm (also a sweet frame), but the hybrid geometry makes it more like a 60cm. Stripping that bike down and selling the frame. The Legato is also hybrid geometry, but I got a 54 for the road bike and will make the 56 a hybrid to flip.

I know this is a disc frame thread, but couldn't help sharing the info. If you are thinking about a Legato, it is a steal. I would imagine the GT and Schwinn road frames are a steal as well, but twice as much.
