an LBS has a Civia Bryant Belt in my size for about half off of MSRP. I'm really tempted.

I already have a Trek Soho with a belt drive, so it might seem puzzling to want another one, but the Soho has three problems:
1. flat bar with trigger shifters (wears on my thumb, can't lean down)
2. all aluminum frame/fork helps you feel every bump
3. drum brakes suck rocks

The Bryant promises to fix these problems with drop bars, brifters, cromoly frame, and disc brakes. Sounds wonderful.

Two things hold me up:
1. I hear that the BB5 disc brakes are not the best. I assume I could just buy a BB7 front brake and swap it, right?
2. Still not in love with the process of changing a rear flat, though I suppose I could throw a Marathon Plus on the back and not worry about it.

Any Bryant owners care to comment?

those have Shimano's roller brake, dont they ? cant you do a disc conversion on the hub.

I have 20 years of flawless service from Sturmey's drum hubs,
on the bike with the studded tires now, in standby..

happily using a Rohloff hub and BB7 disc brakes , my bike came from Bike Friday this time..

rather good thing are KS on an urban bike
and so had one made to grip around the left external bearing cup.
as such, not well thought out before the Send button and CAD
went to the Taiwan frame factories.

there is a rear stand that could go on a redesigned sliding plate dropout,
or as the
Tout Terrain Metropolitan does put 2 lined holes thru the chainstay.


a thudbuster seat post is good for the back side.

LBS is a Trek Dealership, but the income level of the citizens here
means lower priced bikes sells better, and so they are stocked..

I think dealers emptied out the Warehouse of the 'Portland' mid summer ,
and the SOHO too..

1. you can swap a bb7 in for a bb5. in truth, i doubt it will make that much of a difference for you. run the bb5 until it breaks and then replace it.
2. marathon plus is fine. IGHs are things of beauty. fixing a flat is a non issue.

I do not own a Bryant, but I just wanted to correct this post. You may be confusing the Civia with a Surly as they don't like kickstands. Civia on the other hand put quite a bit of thought into their kickstand plate.

I doubt you'll be disappinted with the BB5 brakes.

Changing a flat will be easier: roller brake has an extra cable on the brake side to deal with, disk just slides in and out of the caliper--no brake cable to deal with.

This is what I did. I found BB7's for about $20 more than the cost of non-eBay replacement pads for the BB5's so I upgraded. FWIW, I found it to be a huge difference, though I upgraded my brake levers at the same time, so that may also have been a factor. But the BB5's are OK.

I'd jump on this deal.

pad wear adjustment is a little less convenient on the 5, but not too complex.
hydraulics have an automatic wear compensation.

Civia is a brand, several models wear the brand.

I suspect the chainstays are too short perhaps?, didnt think of
fitting a rear of the chainstay KS, though Pleitcher makes a few.

oh well its Minnesota ,after all.. maybe Taiwan contractors
make stuff cheaper than that Swiss company,
or the pricing stability is better , as TW is dollar tied
where the CHF rises as the
Euro and Dollar fall.
