met a fellow commuter on my ride home yesterday so we rode together.. she got a flat so i stuck around to help her out.. ended up getting home later than normal and made the last 5 or so miles in the dark.. i need a front blinky light

Yesterday was a wonderful commute - passed 2 other bikers. I haven't seen another biker going the same direction in months before yesterday.

On the way home last night I yelled at a driver to get off her Blackberry and pay attention to the task of driving. She reacted in a manner which reflected poorly on her upbringing.

And on the way into the office this morning, I yelled at another driver who was putting her phone to her ear. She looked sheepish and put her phone down. It's been 23 days since the hand-held cell phone ban went into effect and everyday I see some JAM with a phone to his or her ear.

Yep.

Although actually in WA you're still allowed to dial by hand. As well as it only being a 2ndary violation (police have to pull you over for something else before ticketing you for this). Not that there isn't always 'something else'...

I passed the only other bike commuter in Nisku this morning. I was wondering if that guy was still around, good to see that he is.

Had a nice ride in this morning. But now it's thundering and raining and generally nasty. So my wife is coming to pick me up.

Kind of annoying on the way to work, headwind all the way, and just not feeling the buzz. Now I'm staying late at the office unexpectedly, and I didn't bring my headlight, so I'll be taking the subway home.

Tomorrow I'll take the subway here and then ride the bike home.

The only thing I've noticed so far about the damn cell phone law is that now people are just pulling to the side of the road randomly in "no parking" stretches of roads to sit there and chat. I've almost gone right up the arse of 2 cars this week that just decided to freakin STOP because their phones were ringing.

Oh well... I guess it's safer for the other cagers, but it really takes me by surprise when someone just stops their car on a narrow one lane road to talk on the phone.

But on topic - this morning was nice. I've been committing myself to taking it easy on my commutes. They're MUCH more pleasant at a slower pace... A little brisk, but I warm up quickly.

STILL waiting for the damn afternoon headwind to not happen. Every single day for at least a month I've been riding into a serious wind all the way home. The palm trees outside are telling me it's gonna be another one of those today.

My first commute home was yesterday. It was 104 F and 20 knots of headwind and I enjoyed every minute.

been commuting on the fixed with a single pannier for the last 6 weeks. Mess bag got too hot with the temps in the upper 90's...
So far, traffic is nicer to me it seems. Prolly just my imagination.
Feels cooler commutinmg with my monkey load off my back and on the bike. Come winter the mess bag will be coming back out. Keeps the heat in when it drops to 10 degrees and snowing...
Highschool kids blocking pathso I yelled MOVE!!. They did but were mouthy about it. No suprise.
Getting tired of all the people out and about on the MUP (fastest way to work for me) who have NO freakin' clue how to be predictable or stay in there own 'lane'.
I'm about ready to start throwing elbows at passing twits...

other than that, loving the weather, fixed may not be fastest or efficient but I sure love the quiet on my 20RT commute. Kinda fun at 0-Dark-Thirty...

I lost a pannier! I had both of them when I left work. I had both of them when I aired up my tires (to 100psi, ridiculous fast!). But when I got to Target, I only had one pannier! Luckily, it was the one with my wallet and phone and keys.

Unfortunately, the one I lost had my work clothes, my safety vest, my map, my first aid kit, my repair kit, some really good makeup, and so on.

I went back and retraced my entire route. I found nothing. I looked at the gas station, nothing there. I went all the way back to work and looked all over the station, nothing.

Dammit. I guess I'm going to the bike shop this weekend....

might sound cheesy but a bit of velcro around the hooks to rack bit maybe? My pans have a tab that rotate around to lock onto the rack but I use velcro or zipties to keep the 'casual' thief in check. Might work for you to keep your pans on?

Dude, that's exactly what I was thinking. My brother has some cool panniers that attach with what look like great big zip ties...I'll have to talk to him and figure out what he's using so I can buy those for myself.

GirlJen: I have these. Nothing fancy, certainly no Ortliebs! but they work just fine, I really like the attachment system and they are adjustable fore/aft for heel strike. Just get some loc-tite or a bit of rubber cement to lock down the acorn nuts inside the back panel of the bags if you pick these bags.

Good value and realisitic to use everyday.

When I woke up this morning the weather didn't look promising, but as 80% of the time, the weather looks worse from the inside than it actually is on the outside. I had a lovely ride this morning.

I can feel I need a rest day soon though. I've been very active for the past few days and my body is feeling it.

Wet. Wet wet wet. I thought I might have a window of opportunity based on the radar, but it was not to be. 1/3 of the way in, the rain, it came!.

Glad I got my @ss on the bike though. Was almost dressed in street clothes to drive when I said F it.

The ride home last night was brutal. It was absolutely beautiful, but a storm front was moving out of the area and the high pressure system was moving in with some serious sustained winds. Direct head wind. I was exhausted by the time I met my wife for dinner about 6 miles into my 8.5 mile ride home. I ended up having calf cramps in the middle of the night. I think part of it was that I didn't eat anything before I left the office and I didn't have a banana before going to bed. Not too mention I had to stop to help an 11 or 12 year old girl that had crashed pretty hard in an underpass tunnel.

Today is a rest day. Gear up for tomorrow. I am still on track for a minimum of 3 bike commutes per week.

I found this really nice Pannier on my ride in this morning. It had a cool repair kit in it, a first aid kit some cloths - not my style - and some makeup - not my color ... just kidding, girljen!

Did a park and ride today - I think shortening my total commute distance is best for my still healing hamstring. But half a ride is better than no ride!

Ride in was a bit damp, mostly in between rain showers - I got spit on a little bit. Fastest ride in yet. The ride home is probably going to be WET - I'll need to check the radar and time the ride home based on when the worst of the rain cells are coming through.

Last night I noticed that my front wheel was making unpleasant noises on the climb home. I popped it in the truing stand and had to tighten up all the spokes on the non-disc side. It's okay now, but I'm ashamed I let it get that bad. While I had the tools out, I installed my new [actually used, but apparently only for display purposes] SRAM Force crankset on the Cervelo, and put Juicy 3s on my wife's winter bike. I also found out what caused my bike light to short-circuit - bad connector! Pretty good for a rainy evening.

The ride in was smooth. It had rained pretty hard before I left the house, but I didn't catch any of it.

Cool thing happened on the ride to the trolley last night. I passed this guy that I have seen with his bike on the trolley before. Youve seen this guy too. Jeans and ball cap on a BigBox dual shock mountain bike grunting along at a deathmarch cadence. I passed him a mile short of the station, and got there almost a full minute first.

When he got there, he approached me and asked me if I knew anything about the gears on the bike. It gave me a chance to explain cadence to him, also to recomend that he get a man-purse like me, and throw his jeans in there and wear shorts for the ride, make sure his tires were pumped to the max etc.

Advocacy on a small scale (Was also careful not to dis the WalMart special he was riding)

Cool ride in, took it easy, even though I was running behind. Saw some other commuters. Only forgot my belt today, and not the whole work clothes pack. Should be a promising ride home.

Mellow ride in today. It was a little rainy, but I just chose not to ride hard and really enjoy the morning.

I have been hitting the cardio a lot lately (alpine climbing last weekend) and it was nice to just take it easy.

Got to work before the downpour, so no complaints.
