Today was the first run of my new commute to Whitby from Toronto, approx. 32m/53km. I decided that I'd just ride to the train, then ride from train to work and vice versa for the first day. Tomorrow I'm thinking of riding in all the way, giving me an RT of around 60 miles. I'm hoping to do 2/5 days to start with and work from there.

The actual ride itself was very nice, I left early so I could meander slowly to Union station. It's warm, but a touch windy and wet today - but, so far so good - and I'm no longer blocked accessing BikeForums at work! Yay new job

Like tarwheel, I rode in the light rain this morning. It felt VERY weird--not because I don't ride in the rain, I do. It's just--and I know this sounds incredible, but it's true--it hasn't rained on one of my commutes in about a year. I ride 4 or 5 days a week, every week, year-round. THAT'S how bad the drought is here in NC.

Today was nice and warm in the afternoon , on the ride home , there is definitely an air of spring around.
The ride was as usual, fast downhill in the morning and long slow uphill in the afternoon , only one mishap with a blind and ignorant cardriver, almost wacked me making a full u-turn , just to ask directions at people waiting at the busstop on the other side of the road !!
I scared him pretty much when I showed my face in his window , balancing on the front wheel , all brakes shut , but he seems like a nice guy and excused himself for not seeing me.
Friday , before the weekend I suffered a double flat !! I missed the piece of glass at the touch of my fingers,while repairing the tire in the rain and I payed the price .My advise : never put the pressure back in the tire if you did not identify the culprit of your mishap !

Bleagh. I feel like crap, but not bad enough to keep me away from work. I think I caught a virus from Rock Band on the weekend. The snow from Sunday morning iced up hard last night. I had a tough time getting up one of the hills on my route because I was too lazy to change wheels. The ride home should be similarly dicey.

Another sensational day! Man, the weather just now is awesome for riding. I could just ride all day and skip work. About 13C, lovely sunshine, bue blue sky, crisp air.

Legs are still stiff from the spin thing on Friday. Can't believe how long it's taking to get over it! The stiffness has now moved right into my inner groin. Hard to sit at my desk and rub / massage that part of my anatomy without, erm, raising suspicion!

That said, I did quite a fast ride in today; held off a roadie on some carbon fibre thing going over Anzac bridge. All good, although I think I might be starting a cold. Boo.

My first p*ncture! Just left work and noticed that the back end felt kind of loose. Stopped to have a look and the back tyre was completely flat. Got all my gear out, turned the bike upside down and tried to pump up the spare tube ready for my first refit - only to find my pump didn't work (Topeak - hardly ever used). Luckily, a passing mountain biker stopped and helped me - in fact he pretty much took over and did it all in record time - not that I was complaining. Stopped at Halfords on the way back and got a new pump, new spare inner tube and a helmet, which I've been meaning to buy for quite some time. Had an uneventful journey home in lovely weather.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Lee the mountain biker for sorting me out - I didn't even have to ask, he just came up and offered to help. A true gent!

Busy intersection, going faster than traffic, heard a loud metallic sound as the rear of the bike bounced into the air, then the all too familiar sound and feel of a deflating rear tire. This thing (see photo) went straight through the exact center of my thorn-resistant tire and both sides of the tube, and to top it off broke a spoke in the process.

Unbelievable... out of the 63.5 total miles I rode today, including to work and back, I got wet on exactly .5 of them. This despite there being all kinds of green and yellow on the radar the whole day. Some days ya just get lucky.

Nice, quick and warm, if a little wet. It wasn't fluke, with those Aksiums. Commuting time has been noticeably decreased.

Yelled at some guy for passing to close. Starting to catch myself getting a little too touchy at some of this stuff and getting the feeling that I'm the one being the ******* for going off on people. It's a bit of a personal dilemma.

Nice! Mid-50s (~12 or 13C) with a light drizzle and mild wind quartering in from the SW (mostly into my left). Was so nice I wore shorts for the first time in many months! Felt great, too. Was powering through sections that a lot of days I just kind of slog through. Must be spring, or something.

Man, did I get soaked yesterday. I decided to ride despite the rainy forecast because ... I just felt like riding. Made it to work with just a few sprinkles along the way, and also hit a lull in the storms when I left work in the afternoon, even though it rained hard throughout the day. Then I made my mistake. When I got to my neighborhood, it was still barely sprinkling, so I decided to tack another 10 miles onto my commute since the weather has been so iffy. That's when the bottom dropped out, and I rode in a steady drizzle for the last 8 miles of my commute. I was soaked like a wet rat by the time I got home.

I don't know how you guys who ride in the rain all the time handle it. It's not that riding in the rain, per se, is so bad -- it's the cleaning up and drying up afterwards. I spent about 20 minutes drying and cleaning my bike, and then had to go ahead wash all of my clothes so they wouldn't get skanky sitting in a wet pile. And I still need to remove my seatpost and dry out my frame.

BTW, it was still raining this morning, so I drove. I had some errands to run anyway, so hopefully I'll be back riding tomorrow under better weather conditions. As Itsjustb mentioned, we are in the midst of a terrible drought in NC, so there's seldom a need to ride in the rain because it's dry most of the time.

No rain for me this morning - though it obviously had rained all night and there were puddles and standing water everywhere. WARM this morning, in the 60s! This may have been my shortest ride ever (as far as time) - only 28 minutes and change for what sometimes takes me 35-40.

There's a forecast for thunderstorms this PM. Let's see how bad it is; I might have to take a bus.

Road was wet, but at least it wasn't raining. Ducked and dodged a bunch of side view mirrors while lane splitting and hoped no one changed lanes unexpectedly. Luckily, no one did.

Cold for me as well - probably around 45F with a breeze from 15-25mph. That was fine riding against for a while. I had to dodge puddles like crazy especially since i am fenderless

no commuting yesterday or today - have had appointments both days that I could not bike to expecially with it raining. Going through withdrawals - I will be biking rain or shine the rest of the week!

Cool and clear, another wonderful commute.

-12C on the thermometer! I haven't been this cold since yesterday. I think some of the cagers on my route thought they would play April Fool's jokes on me by driving like *******s. Ha ha. Very funny ****ers!

35F and misty. 6 yr old left his bike at school yesterday so he went in w/ his mom today, and I just went straight from home to work. Took the mtn bike as change of pace, and to try out those topeak (de)fenders. Certainly a lot of stuff on them that could have otherwise been on me or the chain.

Cool and drizzling. Great ride! Almost no wind until the city, then mild along the river. I loved that there was almost no one on in the area as I came through the cherry blossoms. Peaceful and pretty, not to mention the great smell in the air.

Drizzly here, pretty warm though.. 62 out right now. A lot of pedestrians with deathwishes today, though. Came within like 2" of creaming a jaywalker.

I'm wimping out this week. I am too scared of icy patches, since I don't have the right tires for ice and I can't afford to wipe out and hurt my hands (I suppose I could dictate my term papers but that doesn't help me with the craft business that's my only income right now!).

Didn't think I'd have much spring in the old legs this morning after a windy solo 50 miler yesterday afternoon. But I surprised myself. I think the heavy miles in March are paying off with a "bounce-back" fitness. We'll see tomorrow, though.
