Traffic was light and slow, which meant that I could easily draft off of cars and slingshot around them. Such fun!

Today is my first day back on my bike since early November. Feels great! It was -3C with a -9C windchill this morning, but I was toasty warm. Of course, now there's a winter storm watch on for the weekend with 25 cm of snow coming, so it may be another week before I'm on for good. Oh well, spring is here, if only theoretically.

cold and drizzly. Looking like on the way home it will be cold and rainy. Actually had respectable average speed for am commute despite 6 yr old going s-l-o-w-e-r t-h-a-n u-s-u-a-l for the first leg.

Seems like I managed to miss every stop light on the way in today. Some days you sail in, some days you spend half the time waiting for the light.

most of the snow we got has vanished already. No work today, but I took a little trip to the store. Uneventful trip other than having to do the "land mine slalom" because someone didn't stop for their dog to go and must have made him poop at a trot. One more reason I love my fenders. I didn't hit any that time, but I have before.

After much angst, having replaced my crankset and finding shifting impossible to dial in, last night I lowered the FD (ahem, duh), got it all tuned, cleaned the chain all nice, put on fancy dry lube, victory! I did my own bike upgrade! I'm gonna ride the hell out of this thing!

This morning, after seeing weather reports of a small chance of scattered showers: big, fluffy snow. In Vancouver, in late March. WTF? I have no safety excuse, I was just ground down at the thought of another cold, windy ride.

Feh. Took tranist. Rides to work this week: 2. *sob*

Woke up this morning to a steady rain. "Great", I said. By the time I got ready to leave it had died down to nothing. I got all bundled up in my rain gear for nothing. Even tho it was just a light 'spittin' type of stuff. I'm gettin' used to riding in at 4:30am. It's so nice and peaceful. Gives me time to contemplate. I've got the news on my radio. The roads all to myself. I enjoy that. A friend at work tells me that her husband is "considering biking" to work to save gas money. I gave her a few links to pass onto him to give him some info. Including this one. For all you newcomers, or folks getting ready for the warm temps. The important part is TO BE SEEN. At least get a tail-light or two. I have three. PerformanceBike has them on sale. And as much as it sounds corny. DO follow the rules of the road, as if you were driving a car. Stop at Red lights, I go thru Worthington everyday. And I stop at the light at 161/High St. if its red. Even if no one is around. I just mosey on up to the crosswalk button and push it and the light changes for me. You don't know how many times the cops have seen me do this. When it comes to Stop signs. I do rolling stops as much as anyone else, but use caution. Give the right of way if you have to. We're talking about waiting for 15 sec. or so. Try to set a good example for other bikers. We know that the cagers are impatient. But one good thing about riding a bike is that it slows the world down. Be safe and practice good habits. Peace out.....Oh yeah, the ride home this aftn was great. A little chilly, 42f. But once again, I had the bikepath all to myself.

wind was almost with me, Both ways!! went in with bike shorts/goretex rain top and home with shorts/t-shirt!
again, i did not see another bicyclist during todays total of 82 minutes/21.7 miles....traffic seemed better, and i rode 2/5 days this week.

Cold front came back in with 13+ mph headwinds. Although it hit 59F earlier the temps dropped. I ended up putting the glove liners, arm warmers, leg warmers, and silk balaclava back on.

hey it did snow but it turned to rain by the time I rode in it was rain and no ice. Got a flat about 1/2 mile from work. raced in before it went dead flat.

nice ride home on the bike path and then Comm Ave. in a light rain.

Windy....very windy! ' took me maybe an extra 15min to get home. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Road was wet this morning. I thought my time would be slower, but I actually averaged 18.14 over 10 miles in to work. One of my best times so far this year. Funny how you don't really know until you check the clock.

Just got my whole family moved down here to Georgia from northern Maine. Now I can ride all year. I'm not missing the snow...yet.

Today WAS my 4th consecutive commuter cycling day this week. I made it to work with my bike every day this week. It was my 14th "Commuter Cycling" round trip this year, the 13TH CCC DAYfor the bikejournal.com forum for the year. But it was not a typical commuter day...

I had 2 flats today and was "rescued" twice!

Doing a "work day commute", on the way in to Hilton everything was going O.K. except for the Northerly head winds keeping my speed slow. Then the back tire went flat. On the C-P Town Line Road there is no protection from the elements. The 18-24" shoulder is crushed stone with a 3 feet deep drainage ditch drop-off (filled with snow melt run-off). There was only 20 minutes before I was to be on my way to a School with a bus. I can't fix a flat, pedal 4 miles, inspect a bus and be on my way to school in that time frame. So I called Hilton Transportation (where I work) for a rescue pick-up.

So after a routine start to the commute my bike and I had a 6-7 minute walk before finishing our ride to work in a rescue vehicle. At work I parked the bike in the mechanics store room. I would affect my repair after the bus run. Later after the bus run, taking my time, I cleaned off the rear wheel and inspected (carefully?) the tire. Removing the punctured tube, I installed a spare tube which is always in the bike bag ready for use.

Repairs effected, I was on my way home. I got 1/4 mile down the the road. FLAT AGAIN?!! The thought was, walk back to the office, call home and leave a message for Ginny to come pick me up. Just then, along came Betty and right behind her was Pam, each in their motor vehicles. Do you need help John? Can I give you a lift home? Do you want to use my phone? Betty offered and I gratefully accepted a ride for me and the bike. Betty took me and the Globe home home in comfort and grace (she traveled about 20 miles out of her way). its the weekend so only took a short ride, weather was amazing as it often tends to be. Although we did have a bit of rain earlier. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Legs were a bit stiff; amazingly still so from our charity 'spin' on Friday. We were quite stoked as we all did quite well, and raised over $2000 for diabetes research. Nevertheless, spinning flat out on a bike with no resistance for 8 minutes feels a whole lot different to riding - and boy were my legs stiff at the weekend! They're feeling better now, but I could hardly believe what that 8 minutes took out of them!

Still, a very nice ride in. I hope this weather holds - it's just so perfect. Blue sky, sunshine and about 15C with a hint of a cool breeze. Lovely.

The ride in last night was quiet without the studs. The ride home was a bit uncomfortable since my scrubs and underwear were in a plastic bag and I had to go commando in jeans since someone urinated all over me at work. In 4 years of direct patient care that was a first. Had to wash up at work and then scrubbed like heck in the shower as soon as I got home. that was over 12 hours ago and I still don't feel clean...

great commute today although its the first time in about a week that I haven't been drenched which is a pleasant suprise

A first for me -- I actually rode to work in the rain. I've ridden home in the rain plenty of times from getting caught in showers that develop during the day. However, my policy has been that I don't ride when it's raining in the morning. I changed that policy today because it rained all weekend and I was itching to ride. Plus, the forecast is calling for chances of rain all week, so I figured I might as well get used to it or miss an entire week of riding.

Fortunately the rain was very light this morning, although the streets were very wet from heavier showers overnight. The hard part is carrying enough gear as I rode one of my roadbikes without a large seatbag because the RaceBlade fenders fit better on it than my regular commute bike. My pockets were stuffed with gear.

The thing I hate most about riding in rain is the poor visibility. My glasses spotted up quickly and they fogged up completely at every traffic light. However, I caught green lights almost the entire way and had one of my fastest commute times in months.

The ride in was awesome. I ride to work in the afternoon, when it's still light, so I can take the greenbelt. Nature! No cars! Sunlight and warmth! It was a great ride, even though a scary German Shepherd thought I was a food item and tried to escape his owner's car to come eat me.

The ride home, at 0600, was dark and cold and the roads were wet. Massive headwind, too.

Today was swoopy, as in, I was swooping around cars and splitting lanes all the way to work. Had one close call, a driver from Mass. who couldn't drive just in his lane so he forcibly shared part of my lane with me. I passed him a few blocks later and forced him over before leaving him behind.

Beautiful clear day with a magnificent sunrise. I left abit late so i actually put on the sunglasses right off the bat! For a northerner that's a good feeling. It was cold today, only about -8 but it felt colder for some reason, must be the additional humidity or something.

using legs more than the brake, i only use the brake when i have to or if my legs are spinning too fast, thinking about getting a smaller cog to resolve this

pleasant weather...about 30f or so when i left the house here in portland, me

mid 40s and started raining on the way home this morning. rain jacket was warm and dry but only had winter tights for the lower half. actually have to say getting soaked was refreshing except for the soggy shoes and socks. I might just try the whole sandal thing and toweling off when I get to work. a mid 40s rain now probably seems refreshing but when I acclimate to summer temps it will probably give me chills.

First day back on the bike for the season.
Weather forecast predicted some light snow and rain mix (it was hovering around the freezing point). I woke up early to try to beat the precipitation. When I woke up and got ready, the sky was crystal clear. As luck would have it, as soon as I stepped outside, the snow came down.
Commute went very well. The bike paths here are still covered with snow so I have to bike on the roads for now. I have a good route that's actually about 1/2 km shorter than my usual route. The ground didn't start to get slippery until I reached our downtown area.
My commute was very slow as compared to high-peak season.
I'm very happy that I beat my seasonal goal. My goal was to begin commuting on 1 April, now I'm a day earlier!
The best part is that I don't have to ride the yucky bus anymore, which makes me very happy

Frosty! And yet I felt like the forest fire in Bambi or something, scared up 4 deer (2 pairs) and a rabbit.
