Deathwish pedestrians. Yep, Sydney specialises in them too, gharding!

Bootiful ride in again this morning. A pedestrian called out to me when I was stopped at a crossing: 'That must be the only gear-less bike not on a track! You must be a masochist!'.

I just kind of laughed, but was thinking, 'not exactly gear less; that wouldn't really work. And there's plenty of other singlespeeds in Sydney.'

Still, it was nice to get some friendly banter, rather than abuse in the morning!

The morning was great upper 70's and a nice tailwind. It was my first commute after adding the rack, fenders, frame pump and wald collapseable grocery getter panniers. I could definitely tell there was more weight, but that added mass was great for maintaining speed once I got going.

Coming home I caught some rain, so I got soaked, but at least it was warm.

It was in the low 50's this morning. Roads were wet, but no rain. Almost no wind. Made good time. By this afternoon the temp had dropped into the mid 40's and the wind was 10-20 mph. Not so good time this evening, but traffic was light. Supposed to be in the 30's in the morning.

Beautiful weather today, the ride went smooth, figured out something I should of done along time ago. Being aware of a left turn over three lanes instead of waiting for the last moment I ended up getting in the correct lane earlier. What a difference that made, All smooth and no need to speed up to much as I usually would do when I take that same turn because I had waited to long before. To act like a vehicle makes things much easier. As far as the weather, clear and nice but hit some headwind on the way back, thats alright though it's a nice addition to the workout.

Fine ride this AM. Very warm at ~60F, with a stiff headwind out of the North. Had a fox cross the road right in front of me, but nothing else notable. Hoping the stiff North wind makes for a fast ride home!

Turned on my headlight as I leaving for work this morning, and it looked like raindrops in the light beam. I just about screamed. We've had 4 straight days of rain, and today was supposed to be sunny and clear. Then I looked at the sky, and there were no clouds. Looked again at my light -- and it POLLEN, not rain, in the beam. Ugh. I guess that's the next seasonal challenge to contend with. There's a thick coating of yellow pollen on the streets, even though it rained until midday yesterday.

quite windy this morning. but i toughed it out for my 1.8 mile downhill "commute" ;-)

Nice day today, clear, a little cold (28f) and no wind. Haven't ridden for a few days due to the heavy rain, wind, and tstorms. Finally took off the studsded tires last Sunday. Average speed outside of town jumped from 12 to 15.

The bike path west of Mndelein is a mine field of broken glass, gravel, and construction debris. Looks like it might be easier just to stay on the rode.

besides the pollen that trawheel was mentioning, it was a great ride this morning after a couple of days off. although I started having a little pain in my knee, but then it went away - have to keep an eye on that

Nice, but windy and long; 2h20m for 22.4 miles.

I was trying out a new bit that bypasses a mile of nastiness; it adds a mile, but it's a lot safer and more relaxing. TOo many stop signs, though.

This morning on the elevator, a couple of my neighbors asked me if I was getting my morning exercise or going to work. I said, "Both, and I buy breakfast w/ the money I saved not using the subway." Today's commute was filled w/ sprints, mostly sprints to gaps closing in traffic, gaps opening in traffic and sprints to escape speeding street cleaners.

No thunderstorms last night, so I had a remarkably pleasant ride home.

Same this morning. Warm enough for a T-shirt; mostly sunny with fluffy white clouds; a little windy at first, but later on in the ride that became a nice cooling breeze.

tarwheel and others: do you find our spring "gold dust" to pose problems for commuting? does the dusty air make things more uncomfortable?

Stellar commute. I dunno why i was just "feeling it" this morning. I detoured to the bank and then just kept on detouring adding 7km to the commute. First time this year i've gone out of my way just for the heck of it. Pretty fast for my morning commute at 26kph avg.

When the pollen hits here, I have to dose up on Chlor-Tripolon before I ride out. I've never had to put a mask on but I have seen other people do that, and I've had to stop to clean my glasses... luckily we don't have a long pollen blast, usually just a few days. It's the smoke/dust in late summer that nearly killed me one year. Stupid lungs.

After a long cold winter, helping my stepson move out of the house (a story in itself), a rescheduling of work times, and the newborn baby girl now turning 10 months...I finally had the time and energy to do my first commute of the year. It was only 8.75 miles to my carpool buddy...but it still counts.

Was 31 degrees this morning with no wind...toes were a bit cold at the end of the ride.

Bright sun today, clear blue sky and about -9C. The DD [******bag Driver] count was way down today, so no close calls. I'm heading home a little early to wait for our new appliances, so hopefully traffic will cooperate.

I cough up some good chunks a few hours after riding during pollen season. I try to breathe in through the nose and exhale out the mouth, but its difficult to do that every breath, especially while riding uphill. The worst problem for me though is the itchy, burning eyes. I'm glad we've been getting rain the last several days!

My second bike commute of the year and I was really slow this morning. Didn't want to get up, kept forgetting things and having to run back upstairs to get cell phone, keys, etc. Finally got on the bike and had a great ride in. New commute is shorter (6.7miles 1/way), so I still got to work in time. Speaking of pollen, May in the WashDC area is horrible. I'm from NC originally and though it is bad there, I think the pollen is worse here. I take a claritin for my nose, and use Opcon-A for my eyes. May is beautiful, but horrible if the pollen bothers you.

Today was my first commute, and it was great. There were a few unexpected detours, so some exploring is in order to find the best route. It was about 6 miles, not much wind, 20* F which wasn't as bad as I expected.

The biggest surprise here was once I was downtown we have a few bike lanes that are in the middle of the road, with oncoming traffic to the left and buses, etc on the right. Problem was they didn't plow the snow off the bike path! So I had to merge in front of the buses to get around the big patches of snow and ice! Made me a bit nervous. I think I'll be looking for a way around that area too.

Crap this morning... for some reason there were hords of people on the national mall and of course I decided to take that route...20 minutes for three miles... BOOOO

Close to gale force head winds for my entire 29 mile commute. Talk about a workout, the legs are still buzzing.
Comfortable temperature of about 40 degrees.

Hope the tail wind is the same this afternoon

Yesterday, It was a drizzle and head wind. It take 2 hours from my home to school.

Today, tail wind and sunny sky took me 1 hour 30 min.

When I go back, I hope the tail wind.

A late commute home in the dark. Low pressure in the back wheel and a headwind made the ride a little more strenuous, but experimentation with seat height has resulted in a much more efficient journey.

Knackered, so treated myself to a curry at the local Indian and read Top Gear magazine for a couple of hours. I was the only person in there. Bliss.
