The morning was a bit warmer than I thoughtit was going to be, so had to stop several times to disrobe pieces. On the way home got caught in a pretty good rain the last half hour or so. It really wasn't too bad once I accepted that it was going to be a very wet ride. But I was quite chilled by the time I got home.

Bike seats... From my experience it could be several things.
- just getting the rear end used to sitting on the seat for distance.
- could be the seat needs adjusting, angle etc.
- bike shorts can make a significant difference.
- perhaps a different seat is called for.
Folks at your lbs should be able to help you out with this. Good Luck.

I had the most interesting commute so far yesterday... First I put my front wheel into some kind of drainage ditch/gutter thing and CRASHED in the middle of rush hour traffic. It was at the bottom of a huge hill and I'm pretty sure at least a few dozen people saw it happen. I may have cracked a rib, but I'm not sure, although my helmet definitely prevented a concussion... I hit the ground hard.

On the plus side, though I stopped at the LBS to drop the bike off to get tuned up. The spill knocked the wheel out of true and some stuff on the handlbars were jarred loose. They fixed it right there on the spot because I'm a commuter! The guy explained that if you use your bike for transportation they'll take care of you instantly. Do most shops do that?

Lastly I'm fairly sure I got my first 'Go Lance!' yelled at me for the first time, which was pretty cool. But I'm not sure because all i heard was "....ANCE!" as she drove by. Maybe it was "I want in your pANTS!" or "I like my eggs sANS ketchup!"

hahah bassist! Thats a story! That is embarrassing when you fall in front of cars, I ve done things like that too.
My bike shop doesnt do that! Maybe they havent warmed to me yet. I saw them talk to a few people who go in a lot and they seemed like family...that what I want from my shop :s

Some one asked me where my gas sucking SUV was,,,I told them it was at home. I could come up with a more creative response...

Jeez a cracked rib. I know the heartbreak of that. Maybe it's just a minor contusion and won't hurt for the full 6 weeks. If not, hopefully the time will pass quickly. I had a spill on my former motorcycle, now sold, to avoid hitting a jay-walking pedestrian, with a similar injury. The leather jacket was what saved the day.

Good tip on the rapid repairs from LBS. I know of one near work which specializes in bike courier (i.e. the employees do deliveries) that I'd bet would do this if need be and they open early (about 8).

My commute today was great, despite Indian Summer. Tomorrow, rain is predicted locally so may drive in, not sure yet (depends more on the prospects at the time of going in to work). My bike's holding up well but is a cheapo, and I may replace the pedals because I'm having visions of them breaking off and needing to replace the whole crank if they do.

I woke up late, I left the house late, and it was cold out! I was overdressed, though...so I was hot by the time I got to work. Could not win.

I got to work at the same time as my partner, though, and he was kind enough to use his truck to trip the stoplight.

The hot weather has finally returned! it was 28C on Saturday, and as 19C for my ride into work this morning.

Bring on the sweaty season! Love it!

I finally got a taste of real fall weather: sunny and cool. I started bike commuting in early spring, so I've never experienced that before. It was awesome! Unfortunately, I had to hurry home because I was late getting out of work.

It was 95 degrees today-I havent had to deal with that temp on my riding. I just took my shirt off-now I have a camel back tan-and my chest is still pale! Hahaa!

Big beautiful moon was up today before the sun started to rise. I almost like it better when it is pitch black. I passed the biggest box turtle I have ever seen in my life. I would have stopped to help it but it was already on the shoulder and close to gettting into the grass.

Another late start. I really should start waking up earlier, I hate being rushed on my commute. Other than that, it was awesome. The sky was absolutely beautiful...full moon and stars everywhere!

I was reminded that my route runs very close to a garbage transfer station. The winds were not in my favor this morning.

it felt balmy this morning so back to shorts and a t-shirt which was really nice, decided to take the route with the climb as well, this route seems to be more challenging in general with the hill and other little obstacles, keeps me alert for sure

Rode through the remnants of Ike today, no rain, but holy headwind!

I rode about 20 miles in Ike yesterday. But he blew out my power and I overslept this AM so I had to ride in with my wife. I wonder if the storm stays together until it get to the atlantic can it turn into another storm? I never thought about a storm sticking together that long.

Forgot to wipe down my bike last night after we got back from the Taco Tour, a mini tour of my home town where we went to a bunch of mexican restaurants and sampled their tacos. Ending at the "corner brewery" a local brewer where they had a special beer made for us, as well as shirts, and spoke cards. Good fun. Except Ike reared it's ugly head and we spent 4 hours in the rain.

Meant to wipe the bike down, but I forgot. Luckily my bike is aluminum, but I don't want to make this habit.

Ride in today was alright. First time I get to use my "Live Strong" thermos. Works pretty good. Almost too good. Hours after I bought the coffee I am still burning my tongue.

Ride was beautiful this morning.

First commute since before my vacation last week.
The combination of my allergies and being burnt out caused me to take basically the entire week off from riding. That did the trick and I am enjoying riding again.
Today I top 5000 miles for the year.

Anyhow, a nice cool commute this morning. I broke out the tights and put them over my leg warmers. It should warm up this week a bit enabling me to test my new knee warmers. Today it is too warm in the afternoon and too cold in the morning.

SUCKED!

I'm 'self-employed', so I don't commute to work per se. Today while running errands, a few cars passed me a bit too close on a 55 mph 4-lane road (I have no other choice but to take this road to town). This rarely happens where I live, so I just brushed it off and thanked GOD that no contact was made. Traffic wasn't very heavy, so I'm baffled as to why the ******bags couldn't have just eased over into the other lane for .5 seconds.

To top it off, my stomach didn't agree with breakfast and I felt like puking the whole time and I'm tired as crap because I'm trying to correct my "sleep during the day, stay up all night" routine. One cool thing though... The clerk at the convenience store looked like the girl from the film "Donnie Darko", which made me smile.

Most of my time on a bike is pretty great... today being the exception, so I'm going to whine about it while I can.

Nice ride. High temp today will be mid 60s. This morning it was mid 50s as I headed for the gym. I swam for 40 minutes, and after showering, the sun was out, so the ride to the office required only the rain pants.

Nice sunny ride. Brisk, 40s/50sF. Dropped pre-schooler and her trailer downtown, caught my wife who dropped the 2nd grader at his school about 2 miles from her office (3 from mine).

Wonderful ride in this morning. My daughter was sick so my wife is staying home with her today. So I asked my son if he'd like to ride his bike to preschool instead of taking the minivan.

"Oh, yeah!" He insisted on wearing his bike jersey and I put a change of clothes for him in a musette. We took a quieter route through midtown than I normally take. Lucas pointed out the garbage trucks, the light rail, the news helicopter hovering over the Hwy 50/99 traffic jam.

Just a wonderful morning.

That jam is just an ugly one in general. Never commuted through it, except to catch it at the wrong time while heading to an fun-filled day of meetings in El Dorado Hills.

My commute in was pretty good this morning.
Nothing major except almost getting bushwhacked by a car flippin' a b1tch just after a stop light.
ohh.. and the breathtaking enjoyment of crossing a railroad and looking to your left and seeing a train. LOL. The guards weren't down. They might have been working on it. But a few minutes later, I heard it blowing it's horn and passing through town.
Odd. =)
I wish the city would do a little more to make true bike lanes. They're coming around. Alot of the new roads are including bike lanes, but I consistently see the city's pretty little "bike lane" signs, yet there's about 18"-24" of space.

Also, something else. Has anyone else noticed problems with handicapped (legally) drivers? I've noticed that the majority of the horn blowing, "close calls", etc that I've experienced are handicapped drivers.... well, at least they have a handicapped license plate. Just something odd I noticed and wondered if anyone else experienced the same. I wonder if it's perhaps an "old school" mentality or maybe they just have something against people that can do something that they might not be able to (like ride a bike).

Another nice ride today. Summer is definitely on the way!

Very windy, though. Gusts on the harbour up to about 55km/h; made for some interesting crosswinds going over the bridge!

I've also finally got my other bike back on the road, so am riding it (old skool peugeot) at the moment. Feels totally weird after riding the salsa for so long. Also feels like harder work, despite the gears. I suppose it is a bit heavier. It's nice to be able to spin a bit more though; my SS has quite a high ratio.
