Very nice commute today. They were originally calling for bad rains today, but apparently the remains of Hurricane Ike decided to avoid Pennsylvania. Left my Transfomer at home and took the brand new Orbea into work. Only down side... had to wear a backpack, and I didn't enjoy that too much.

Ditto on the very windy (and the approach of summer). Got a good work out fighting headwinds and crosswinds.... not sure where all those tailwinds were hiding though.

Gonna take a day this week and show the Transformer some TLC so that it doesn't feel left out, and then get it officially and permanently set up for commuting. I look forward to never having to remove those fenders again (or at least much less often)!

Not bad at all. Got honked at but what else is new.

Didn't get to ride at all last week between weather and needing to haul stuff to work or knowing I would be working late and pressed for time to get home.

Felt good to get the morning peddle in. Suppose to get some cooler weather the rest of the week. Looking forward to that.

Enjoyed my commute-it was 92 and I didnt really like that part but the exercise was nice. I think my body is telling me to relax the riding a little. I started my commute last week and I rode it 5 times this week with out riding too much before that-and my body is a little over used. To just bang out 160 miles with out riding all summer was too much of a shock-soo I regret to take the next few days off.
I am hooked though...

I think I am having a slow leak problem in my front tire too-I need to address that

My commuting both to and around campus today was SUBLIME! I mabe a 3 minute 15 second crossing of campus through the wandering herd of students and the holes opened up at exactly the right time in both traffic and pedestrians while I danced through them both. It was like a synchronized ballet, and I even caught all the lights green on the way to and from as well as through campus. My legs felt strong and I averaged 100 - 120 cadence and actually outpaced the traffic on many occasions on my fixed gear.

Partly cloudy, 71 degrees and a very light breeze. In short, a perfect day!

Different today as about 1/2 the neighborhoods were without power, many trees down, debris in street, etc. Some damage to historic buildings in the old town section on my route. Well, could have been worse, and my ride was not slowed down at all.

The ride home was splendid. Plus, I forgot my pump during the worst part of goathead season. Managed to not flat. Watching the ground like a hawk was getting annoying.
Nice warm ride. I am busily hoping that I am suffering from allergies and not the cold my wife had last week.

rode with my wife to her work and then continued on to my job. Saw Senator John Kerry on his Serotta on the bike path.

Had a nice ride home but I was hungry.

Today was awesome on my return trip. On the way home first I found a Denver Broncos Flag in great shape. Then I ended up behind a guy who set a faaast pace and I kept up(which shocked him big time) and them when I was almost there I came across a family of deer(buck, doe, fawn) and kinda just watched. It was great! The weather was beautiful!

Nice, cool light traffic. Not as good a ride as Tom's yesterday but still very nice.

The rain came down in buckets as soon as I was in my tall gear heading out of the parking lot. Something told me to cover my panniers, but I wasn't listening. I dried them out with my uniform tee and socks and filled them with charcoal, 4 thick ribeyes, paper towels, napkins, fabric softener, and CC lemon at the commissary. On the second leg of my commute, the rain waited for me to continue, yet the covers kept the groceries and my Brooks dry leaving me to enjoy my wet ride laughing like a lunatic all the way home.

It's getting darker each day when I leave in the morning. Can't wait for some real dark so I can test out the new headlight.

Finally got out of the house on time and man what a difference ten minutes can make in traffic, great ride in, but it's time to do some head light shopping.

Had to shower before an appointment, so I was hammering it the whole way home after work. Didn't have time to take in the ride.

This morning it was cool out, so I decided it would be a good test to see how my wind proof jacket worked. If it really would keep me warm. Well, it did its job. Almost too good. Was sweating.

I (finally) left for work on time, so I was able to take it easy and enjoy the ride. Again, the sky was beautiful. Again, it was cold outside. Like always, it was quiet. I love my morning ride.

Ride in was pretty great today. The moon wasn't as full and there were many clouds obscuring the stars.

I broke out of my rut. I hadn't rode to work in over a week. I had a hard time getting on my bike this morning, but now that I'm at work, I feel great.

The weather was cool, and there was light fog. I need to buy a pair of gloves.

Many traffic lights are still out due to Sunday's storm. Traffic was light. A pretty good ride.

had a good time this morning, someone honked at me though and i am not sure why...i wanted to catch up with him and just ask him why he honked, just another grouchy driver i guess

i have been taking the route with the hill more lately and i am glad, it feels good to climb a steep hill before rolling into work
the temp was just right too

My second ever bike commute. It went well. I like riding early morning because there is not as much traffic out. Later in the day when I ride home I find it more stressful because of the increased number of cars on the road.

A new experience for me also. I had to take the left lane to go around parked 18 wheeler, which give me a bit of anxiety since I usually stick as close to the right side of the road as possible. Hopefully after a few months all of this will be old hat, and the stress of dealing with traffic will be gone.

I don't know how long your route is but one thing that may help is to plan out your route so that you reach the heavy traffic sections during off times. For instance, I ride through a school zone, I know that starting at 8 AM the school buses will be arriving for 8:30 classes. What I definitely want to do is get past that section before 8:15 (the heart of the arrivals). There are a number if intersections that are busy. If I arrive before or after the heart of the local rush hour the intersection is safer.

Of course it's not easy and you have to figure out where to make trade offs. As a general rule the earlier I get up the better as I can arrive at work before the rush hour (and school) begins. This also means I can leave early. Sometimes I do the reverse, I leave later for both start and end of my commutes. I have lights to take care of darkness so I don't worry about that as much.

Back from a 3-day weekend in Portland, Maine. Lots of cyclists out and about. Seems like more of a bike-friendly place than Burlington, VT, but then it's a much larger city. I really like it there.

50F on the bike computer this morning. Shorts and short sleeves for me, still. I passed a young woman wearing a coat, long leggings, and gloves. Being hot-blooded is good. My hands did feel a bit chilly for a while, admittedly.

Left late (which is happening allot lately) and was riding in rush-hour traffic. Just a constant stream of cars passing me. The weather was great this morning, around 8C when i left so i just wore long pants and a t-shirt.

Made record time coming in this AM... 22 minutes. Managed to be stopped at only one traffic light the whole way (was a bit more aggressive than normal at some others) but I was just kinda feeling the ride. Also my times dropped significantly when I ditched the Trek 7300FX for the Aurora. Loving the Aurora right now... seems to handle what I'm throwing at it... commutes, grocery runs etc, with speed, agility and comfort. Finally, I like the gearing/ positioning on the Aurora better than the 7300FX. I'm much more comfortable at a higher cadence at higher gearing, meaning I'm faster!

Getting colder in my area, especially this morning with heavy fog at 5°C/41°F. Capri bike pants, tank, tee and long sleeve shirt and ear warmers. Definitely need to look at full-fingered gloves for the AM. Cold mornings and warm afternoons lately - today's high is 17°C/63°F. Getting pretty good at snot rockets!
