Nose wheelies aside, my ride in was delightful! Wet pavement but no rain, 30mph wind in the forecast but none found me; bike tight, tires grippy, feeling strong, and a balmy 42F/+5.5C.

Man, if it wasn't for this work thing, this morning would be suitable for song...

Weird schedule. I went home at 2:30 in order to come back at midnight. On the way home I took a 25 mile detour into Yolo County to take advantage of the sunshine. The ride was very pleasant. Even took a detour from my detour to ride a mile or so over a gravel levee.

I drove the car to report to my graveyard shift, though.

Dark as usual. Rode the Puch Meteor today. Quiet ride in. Stopped by to get some donuts then rode to nearby used car lot. Had to say hi to the "vicious" guard dogs there and feed them pieces of pigs-in-blankets. One is a large rotty mix and the other is a large bloodhound (possibly a plott) mix. They whine and wriggle like pups when they see me.

Wheee! Headwind both ways. More calories for the distance that way. At least it's nice chilly weather to keep me cool while I work harder to go the same distance and try to achieve nearly the same speed.

Chilly this morning after a couple of warm days. As I'm getting dressed, wondering if I'm overdressed or underdressed, I have to keep reminding myself that in a couple months I'm gonna be too hot all the time and that I should enjoy these cool mornings while I can!

A little chilly this morning, but should be really nice tonight. Still having trouble breathing since the half marathon, but not terrible on the ride in. Going to the Dr. to hopefully get the breathing figured out tomorrow.

I picked up my new commuter/touring bike last night from the mechanic who built it up. It's a Bob Jackson World Tour and should be perfect for commuting. I wanted so bad to ride it to work today but it rained quite a bit overnight and the roads were still very wet this morning. Didn't want to christen my new bike with rain, mud and worms, plus I haven't installed the fenders yet. So I reluctantly rigged up the single-speed for today's ride, and it will be much easier to clean up later. Hopefully I can leave work early enough this afternoon to take the Jackson for a short spin.

Had the good old caring co-worker interaction last night:
"Why don't you take a company truck home?"
"Naw, i'll bike it, thanks"
"Oh go on"
"It'll only save me like 15 minutes"
"That's 15 minutes with the kids, take the truck"

Just wanted to keep riding this morning. But I didn't.

My ride in was going along okay for about 2/3 of the way when I slid as I was going under a bridge and wiped out on the wet wood sidewalk. I wasn't going very fast (though apparently too fast for the wet wood...) and was not hurt at all, but my wheels kind of hit the railing and apparently the rear wheel hit it rather hard. I picked myself up, dusted myself off and started riding again after a quick survey of the bike. About half a mile later, I have a flat. Curses! Oh well, I figure I will put on a spare tube. Nope, no tube in my pack. Arg! Okay, I have a patch kit, so that should work. I take the wheel off and pull off the tire then pull out my pump to see if I can find the hole. Unfortunately, my pump is missing one key little piece that will allow it to work with the schraeder valve on this wheel. Curses again! So, after a 2 mile walk to the nearest bike shop, I drop my bike off to be fixed (when I took off the wheel, I found two broken spokes, too...) and take a cab the rest of the way to work.

Did I mention that this was my first day riding into my new job?

Tomorrow, maybe I will ride my other bike...

Had it all this morning...started clear, then rain, then freezing rain, then sleet, then snow...all within 8 miles

Nice ride in this morning. Blue skies and sunny but brrrrrrr! I need some gloves. lol. The best part is I found a new route that keeps me from having to deal with a kamikaze intersection that I always hated. Now if I can find an alternative route home since I can't reverse the ride due to one way streets.

a swift ride in on the road. Am I the only cyclist who stops for the red light on Comm Ave at the BU Bridge? No less than 9 cyclists ran that light while I waited. Then thinking my observance of the law would be appreciated I was practically run down by the traffic as I took off with them whizzing on both sides to get around me. Kind of makes you think it's better to run the light.

The ride home I took the bike path- most of the ice is gone and it was nice and quiet. Got chased by some woman's dog. Finally stopped, talked to the dog and it calmed down but then I gave the owner my "no bad dogs just bad owners" speech and how until she and "Maggie" (the dog) sort out who's in charge Maggie should be on a leash. The dog was probably a pretty good dog but she was ready to nip me on the foot when I finally stopped. The owner looked sufficiently shamed so I didn't get too high and mighty but I was tempted.

Then about 6 miles into my 10 mile ride home I realized I'd left my cell phone in my office. I won't be in the office again until Saturday so I opted to ride back. So my 20 mile commute ended up as a 32 mile commute today.

Could get used to this 50sF coming home...

Windy. Hard work.

Two days after an asthma attack. Measured my Peak Flow today: 175. not good. no ride for me till that gets back up to at least 350.

Rode 10 miles into the office and took light rail. Rode 30 miles home and averaged 19.9. 100 miles this week. But the good part was this was the first time I have broken out my geared road bike all winter. Been riding my single speeds exclusively. Gears are good. Got to 38 mph in traffic on the way home drafting a truck. Fun, FUN!....

Only downside, the nicer the weather the more ppl on the MUP.

I had a 20mph tailwind all the way home. Don't know what I did to deserve that one...

Also found yet ANOTHER, better route to work courtesy of google maps. Not a bad day.

What a difference a day makes. 23F/-5C, with 15-20mph headwinds gusting to 30 (only hit a few of those, though). Needless to say, it was a little slower than usual...

Just a gentle reminder that this is, after all, still February, I suppose.

Brutal commute yesterday, cold and very windy. The roads were wet in the morning, so I took my single speed. One the way home, I was riding right into the wind much of the way with just one gear. Plus my legs were tired from piling up a lot of miles lately, so that made for a long ride.

However, waiting for me at home was my new touring bike that I plan to use for commuting. I had just enough time for an 8-mile spin through the neighborhood when I got home, and I rode it to work today for the first time. I'm still getting all of the adjustments right, but it's gonna be a keeper. I'll post another thread with pictures on the Commuting forum.

It was colder on the way home today. Kept it on the big chain ring on the last hill before home and that warmed me up. I can't believe that I was able to replace my front brake pads as good as I did. The Kool Stop Mountain Pads work much better than the stock pads that came with my Tektro CR720's.

Yesterday my youngest son and I rode into town for his doctor appointment. We had a nice ride together. When we left the doctor, we stopped off at the market to pick up some milk. Price of milk has really dropped! Was $2.99 at this market, and only cost us $2.17/gal yesterday.

I'm assuming you mean inbound? I always stop there. There's rarely a lull in cross traffic, but even if there's a gap at the bridge that I can ride through, I don't. I'm a big proponent of not messing up traffic flow, especially during rush hour, if I can help it, and shooting gaps there does tend to slow down the cross traffic. Backing up one car causes a ripple effect in heavy traffic, and I'd rather just wait my turn and let everyone get through in as efficient manner as possible.

I guess the annoying thing about waiting for the green is sometimes there will be a car on your left that needs to get into the right turn lane past the light and will cut you off like you weren't even there. I guess I've learned to watch out for that, and I rarely have problems.
