Took out my Raleigh Special this morning. Amazing ride. I like hopping on my slowpoke cruiser once in a while.

good ride today but humid. welcome to the muggy south? 93% humidity is thick stuff to swim through at 53 deg. gotta love 'HotLanta'. Sweat season starts early here.

I got sucked in by the marathon route today.

The Boston Marathon is today, and part of my route follows the marathon route, complete with barriers on the roads to keep the spectators back, etc.

I turned onto Hereford St, following the barriers and was surprised to see a truck coming right at me (the streets in that area are all one way). I silently cursed him for being a jackass... Looked up, saw the "Do Not Enter" signs at Newbury and Hereford... Had a moment of incomprehension, and then realized that it was me that took the wrong turn, just blindly following the marathon route :o

Whoops. Pay attention! *Slaps self on head*

Unfortunately the finish line on Boylston St. is closed to traffic and has been since Friday. Thursday was fun though, triumphantly crossing the finish line with the scaffolding and the bleachers all around :p

gorgeous 46F and sunny. The warm 46 not the cold one, so no coat today.

drummer5 04-20-09 09:44 AM

Ugh started off my day on the wrong foot, well more like unclipped(toe clips) with the wrong foot first and was still half asleep so I wasn't able to get my other foot out in time and fell right over at the busiest intersection on my way to school. Bruised ego, skinned knee, and popped my chain off but by the time the light turned green again I was back on my way.

I think I may start drinking my coffee before I ride in the morning rather than after I get to my destination...

Steady rain this morning, not a downpour, but soaking nontheless. Looks like rain all day today and rain predicted through Wednesday, it'll get old real soon (just as soon as I put my not-yet-dry shoes on for this afternoon's ride home). Oh well, it's still fun.

Pig_Chaser 04-20-09 10:19 AM

Nice commute this morning. I put a 26c on the rear wheel as the 23c was wearing thin and i had a 26 in the garage. it seemed faster somehow (and yes i did adjust my computer).

Glorious sunny morning in the PNW. Is spring finally here? Had a great ride, and even shaved another 5 minutes off my commute time [struts around cubicle high-fiving imaginary friends].

90F yesterday, a nice 72F this morning. No complaints here.

habernac 04-20-09 01:15 PM

great ride in, nice and warm (6C) this afternoon might hit 20C!! Sadly, snow is forecast for later in the week. And the headwind on the ride home will be a mofo.

caloso 04-20-09 01:23 PM

Big 'ol high pressure system sitting over the West Coast this week means it's gonna be hot. This morning I had my vest off and my armwarmers around my wrists when I rolled up. It should be 94F for the ride home.

I forgot my keys this morning so I had to sneak my bike in the back stairs and up to my office, in violation of the building rules. Feh.

djwid 04-20-09 01:28 PM

Great commute this morning. This is my first day of the year down to just one layer on the ride to work. It was sunny and 50*F when I left for work.

I'm in Sac too. Had a nice ride this morning at 8am. Nice and about 58 out. I'm not looking forward to leaving the office at 5 though. First 90+ day since last fall and it's my first day commuting on my bike. Nice initiation!

Itsjustb 04-20-09 02:00 PM

First day back on the bike since Tuesday. Shower-repairman was supposed to come Wednesday, then Thursday. Finally came Friday.

Rain this morning but it looks like I'll miss it on the way home today (knock wood).

I'm writing myself a note to refill the bottles before I leave.

A day of firsts...

First commute for over a year...
First commute on a recumbent trike...

I missed commuting... it's fun!

neilfein 04-20-09 06:25 PM

Rode home in a downpour. I also tried a new route, one that I'll never ride again - I thought I saw a shoulder in the sat photos... urgh. No such lock.

On the positive side, the Ortlieb Ultimate handlebar bag kept my stuff bone dry.

Nice, cool weather commute this morning.

Damp and windy this afternoon.

jyossarian 04-20-09 07:18 PM

Rode home in the rain so my bike and I were dripping wet. Got on the elevator with a neighbor and she asked me, "Did you ride your bike in the rain?" I paused and went over a number of answers before choosing #2048, which was, "Yes."

KitN 04-20-09 09:00 PM

Rode in the pouring rain. At one point the wind gusts were so bad I had a hard time keeping my front wheel straight and the rain was hitting me so hard in the face it actually hurt. :(

Well, on the bright side, at least I don't have to wash my hair. It's already been washed by Mother Nature.

Nerdanel 04-20-09 10:35 PM

This morning's commute was hot and odd. Especially hot because I didn't get rolling until almost noon (I'm still here in the office at 9:30 pm) so the heat had a chance to really set in. Especially odd because I found myself (and my bike) on an otherwise empty subway car with 4 people who had just discovered they all did time in the same jail! They got to talking (yelling over the noise of the subway) about this and that and about the diseases and infections they had gotten while in jail. Yeah, says one woman, I had these sores and it turned out to be gonorrhea. :twitchy: "I thought you said you didn't [censored]" says another. "I didn't, but I [censored]!" says the first. At which point they all turned to me at the same time and one said, "Look at this poor lady here in the middle of all of us!" I observed that every ride on the subway was an education and tried not to hear anything else.

Rough

Despite the MUP being upgraded, it ends at a farm track. I treated my bike to a minor service and reinflated the tyres yesterday. I also stupidly took a laptop home so extra weight + 85 psi tyres made it a really bumpy ride this morning but 11 deg C, wispy grey clouds, lack of horse manure and no sign of crazy farm dogs made it all worthwhile.

Sunshine ! lots of it , all week long !!
Last week was rainy and ****ty , but this week will be great !
I had my DAHON folder repaired at the local bike shop , new brakes , cables , rearwheel and casette plus chain , costed me a fortune , but was worth it. Oh , and i put some new tyres in as well , Schwalbe Marathon Racer , feels great .
Bikes really suffer over the winter , all the salt on the side of the road eats through the moving parts of the bike .So a major repair was necessary .
Don't think wrongly of me , I do maintain my bikes almost weekly.
Today i choose the faster bike , longer commute and a detour through the parks on the way home , life can be good , especially in the springtime.
I wish you all lots of hapiness on your bikes, be safe

Dark as always and alittle cool, maybe 56-58 degrees. Rode my new "old" bike for the first time today. A yellow 70's C.Itoh. It was kinda reckless of me actually since I had done very little work on it and some cleaning. It was actually a smooth ride. Front and rear derailleurs need adjusting and new brake pads are needed. The bike chain was kinda loud and made the neighborhood dogs bark. Two of them actually got out of their yards to show their displeasure at the loud bike and give chase.
I think this will officially be my work bike and "junker". This one will be named the "Phoenix". She had a hard life but I'll make a decent ride out of her yet.

Not bad. Damp. Light sprinkles. Low 40sF with a mild headwind. except on the lakeshore, where it was pushing me back.

Yesterday I had a howling tailwind. Not even trying, I was cruising in the low 20MPH range.

Near downtown Burlington, I came across 5 or 6 students walking on the MUP and throwing a frisbee back and forth. They got out of my way when they saw me coming, but threw the frisbee over my head once. Not trying to hit me. Just not thinking. No lie: I was thinking, "What are you guys, stoned?" Then after I got home I realized it was 4/20. Is 4/20 a "holiday" everywhere or is it just a UVM thing? They probably were stoned! :p
