How was the commute today?

Nice morning today, scattered clouds, some blue sky and sun and temps in the 40s(f). Pretty nice, and some fast pedaling helped overcome the severe lack of sleep from last night.

ollo_ollo, I occasionally get the same dickweeds on my route. It makes me wonder how miserable these people's lives must be!
This morning was warmish and foggy. The air just felt really thick. Also my legs were heavy from a hardcore weekend. Nice to have a moderate spin on the bike path before heading into the office.

Perfect winter ride, 25-28F/-4to-2C, no wind, and light snow falling onto about 1 or 2 fingers worth of snow on the road. Only icy in a couple of spots, of course they had to be on the twisty downhill. Great ride, even if slow. With all the hoopla about the chilly football game in Foxboro Saturday; there were articles about how cold effects the game. Supposedly, it slows nerve conduction. At last, the perfect excuse, I'm slow because my nerves are slow. I guess that is supposed to sound better than I'm slow because I'm slow.

Yesterday I got a total soaking on the way to work, but the high winds that were forecast did not materialise (thankfully). We played football after work, so the commute home was not quite so energetic... I should never have made the rash move of overtaking that cyclist, 'cos he showed me up on the one steep climb! I begun to reel him in again but he turned off the route about a mile further on.
This morning was dry but there was plenty of gusty wind to deal with.
Cheers,
Ed

First commute across London (Baker St -> Chelsea Harbour) in a few years, 20 minutes faster than the bus, 25 minutes faster than the tube. Shame my heart monitor didn't want to play...
still not bad for a first commute, hopefully the wind will be with me along the Kings Road on the way home....

Yep, I'm back home alright. Disgustingly humid here right at the moment, as it has been since I stepped off that plane. So far I've had to deal with morons careering out of control down the wrong side of the road, reversing into oncoming traffic etc etc. Strangely there's been a little less abuse than usual this week, although I'm sure that will change soon enough.

Slushy snow and very cold, but hey I've got my new Lumicycles and just been told my new Campag mechs are waiting for me at home so life's good.
Also finished tweaking my first home built wheel last night so looking forward to the ride home so I can see it spin on the stand

This was my first morning riding from our new place about 5.5 miles out of town. (45MPH roadway with no shoulders) Total mileage in was 6.64miles/10.68km. Temperature was 39F/4C by 6:00 A.M. this morning. The Chinook winds were steady at 15MPH/24KMH with light gusts.
My headlite was dead this morning. So, had to ride the trip with no lite. Good thing for me the moon was shining bright! Time for new batteries!
I was supprised at how little traffic there actually was on the way into town. The traffic there was gave me plenty of room and even slowed down.

Cold But Not Terrible Good Ride
#3886
Warmest day in weeks, it was 43F this morning and I loved it. Traffic was worst than usual. The cagers seemed to have discovered my new route and were blasting through it going at least 20mph over the posted limit. : (

The Bikeforums Jinx strikes again. I commented on ollo_ollo's early morning run-in with a jerky motorist and, as a result, the cosmos delivered a jerky motorist to me.
6:20 am, on a three-lane, one-way boulevard. I'm track-standing, waiting for the light in the middle of the right lane. Junky Honda pulls up to within 6 inches of my wheel. The guy makes me nervous so I jump the light. Half a block further, the junky Honda catches up, hangs behind for a bit, then revs its engine and passes me with about 6 inches of room. Jerk.

Overcast upper 40s (f) and raining today. Was riding late as I had to swing by the apartment office to pickup my seat post which had been delivered the day before. Tonight I'll put in the new post and my b.67 that has been waiting for it. Hooray! Anyway tried to make up for the lost time so a nice, wet, energetic ride in.

Nice day, but I had to drive to work so I could get to a MD appt. Then the Dr. called at work and rescheduled. Not fair, now I lose 2 days riding.

Bikes: Still have a few left!
It was a balmy 48F this morning, no rain on the way in. While still in our parking lot, leaving work to go home for lunch, I discovered my Centurion's rear tire was flat. I Went back into our vending machine area & put in a new tube. It was a presta & the rim on this bike has schrader so I only pumped up to 60#. Pretty messy due to all the road grit on my bike & tire so it was great to be able to walk around the corner & wash up before riding home (if you have a flat, have it at work!). There was still lots of sanding debris on Martin WAy but South BAy Road had been swept and I could make some speed. After lunch I rode my Motobecane touring bike back & hit a few showers but there was some sun. The ride home was dry.

Head winds on the way home. Is nice to have some daylight for the ride home. (well, twilight). It was a great sunset!

Took it easier on the way in this morning. Nice ride! Got to head back home again at noon. Supposed to have a light tailwind and low 50's. Hoping traffic is light at that time of day, would make for a nice time.

Temp for the ride in this morning was already 43F/6C!
I have found that this is a difficult temperature to dress for. I only wear a wind shell over my shorts and long sleeve jursey. My "Subzero" gloves are to warm, but my fingerless riding gloves are to cold. WAH WAH WAH...
What can I say. It was a wonderful ride this morning. Having my headlight working made it much better.
Trimmed over 1 minute off my time. (cool)
My bike developed a squeak on my left peddal downstroke.

Ahhh, great ride in this morning, a fresh coat of snow, mild temps (32F/0C), quiet, peaceful... kind of like a sleigh ride, only without the bells.

I hear you Lucky - It was miserable, wet and cold here in Oxford this morning

It's been a strange commute my last two rides. Last night I left work kinda late, around 8pm. As I was biking out the detour route (SR-202), where the shoulders are very heavily covered with sand and other debris, I punctured my rear tire. Drove a good 2" nail through my brand new Town and Country, tire liner and tube
Changed it on the side of the road in the dark with my bike headlight (glad it is removable) Actually the tire change went really well probably the best change I've done, especially do considering circumstances. I guess practice is making perfect so to speak. Only getting my wheel true was not so good.
So today I'm biking in and it is really raining. By far the heaviest rain I've ridden in on the way to work. I'm also riding on my new Brooks saddle, which is taking some getting used to. Once again on SR-202 trouble occurs. I begin to catch up with a backup of slow moving cars, wondering what's the rumpus. Turns out to be two dogs playing (and I mean playing) in the street. They are chasing each other in and running across the street. Cars are going really slow and stopping as the dogs get in the way. I'm on the shoulder, very wary at this point. I'm not a fan of dogs and I know that they could start chasing me at any point. Also I am very leery of a car swerving into my lane to avoid the dogs. So just as I am parallel to one the dogs a BMW creeping along hits the dog. I'm literally right next to it and I hear that unpleasant sound of car on flesh. The car has stopped dead and the dog goes running off. Seemed OK, not even limping. I biked on and it seemed like the BMW stayed there to check on the dog or something. Crazy.
On the plus side though they had swept the street since the night before! Yay! Still, I have to say I am looking forward to the trail opening up again.
