Today's ride?
I love my bike! |
My first ride in the pouring rain. Kinda liked it. My boss has gone from thinking I'm insane to just sighing when she sees me walk in stripping off the bike gear.
|
commute sucked today. I've had 2 days off and I could barely get 4 miles from my legs. WTF?! They feel like I rode hard all weekend. Oh and I've had trouble breathing all day. Short, shallow breaths all day.
oh well.....try again tomorrow. |

I had a nice ride with a 15-or-so MPH tailwind. I'll be paying for that on the ride home, unfortunately. Maybe the wind gods will smile on me and lighten up before I head out. A rollerblader decided the leaves on the trail were more interesting than looking ahead, so she proceeded to drift right into my way. Frantic bell ringing woke her from her stupor and she darted out of the way. I suppose I'm lucky she didn't panic and crash right into me. Bladers are a menace. No offense to bladers. ;) |

My ride sucked today. Temp was around 80, so it was warm again after a couple of weeks of nice, cool weather. I rode to the LBS, about 3.57 miles, bought some DeFeet Woolie Boolies for later this winter. Checked out some winter jerseys, planning to buy one. (Side note: why are these things $65???) Chatted with the owner about building a bike.
On the ride home, something inside just *clicked* and I gave up. Rode the bus home. |
Good fast ride to work & home. Nice day .

Had I known, I might not have rode into work today...A real workout out..
Heading north against very strong headwinds for about 10 miles as I paralleled the I 15 corridor into Temecula..Radio reports said some gusts were up to 30 mph..All headwinds... It was like 10 miles of a 8 % up grade..Almost turned around a went home..Glad I didn't.....When I got to work, I ate like a horse..Soup, Cranraisins, and a nutri gran bar... BUt, it was almost 70 degrees, not bad...Headwinds caused me to average only 11 mph...Of the 26 miles, I was probably fighting winds for 13 miles.. See how the work out keeps me awake through the night..Big believer in recovery drinks, after a big workout..Feel good now. Man, winds can be strong here, when taking on certain passes. |

AJ..Not sure I had 30 mph winds..Just what the radio said was predicted for the gusts...They must have been at least 20 mph...At least it was reasonably warm.
Some times I could do a better job of checking the most current weather predictions. ALways hope the AM newspaper is correct...During the winter, need plan to have the right gear for the return..Hope so. |
Well after a couple of weeks of just being lazy, I started riding to work again. Weather was nice this morning with tempature around 67F and a pretty good headwind. Calling for rain showers all day today so I will probaly get wet on the way home. Yeah!
It did feel good to get back on the bike though! |
I have been nursing a cold for over a week now and haven't commuted in the same! I don't have time to be sick! It doesn't fit into my schedule!

Noah say, "80 deg F, 5-15 mph winds, 90% rain, and Thunder storms likely. Should have bought wet gear!

There was a post, bike to election polls, this could go under in this quaderennial event...But, biked home this AM my 26 miles..Fall is in the air...Missed at 7AM some additional glove liners on a somewhat chilly descent...
Stopped at the voting booth on the way home...Since the poll was between work and home...Afraid I would not return after a clean up of myself...Voting took about 30 minutes... No advocacy attire is allowed so noticed clerk look at my jersey...There is no party called "Bike to work" with the 'stamp out cars' emblem below..So I was allowed to vote. California was a reputation as going as you are..Like surfers come to polling booths with wetsuits on...I took along some knee length nylon cargo shorts, so voters did not seem to take too much notice I was a cyclist voting..Headwinds less today, so the ride home was sunny , cool and a nice ride.. Anyone else bike to the polls? Luckily they had a fence to which I could lock my bike and did not get to vote with my bike at my side. |
Cold and clear this morning. Started my ride just as the sun came up. About 5 miles in, I was sitting up finishing my coffee when I noticed a bike behind me. I waited for him, but when he got to me, he said "Good morning" and just went on by! So I got on his wheel and a half mile later bam! Pinch flat on a rock. Just my luck. Lesson: When you are behind someone who doesn't point out road debris, stay back a little so you can see!
He's probably at work telling everyone how he dropped this guy on an expensive bike, etc... Going home it will be all dark all the time, then to the polls. Tom |
Took me an hour to vote, but the ride in was fine, if a bit warm. I've been enjoying the return to dark commutes home.

If Sacramentans won't bike commute when the weather's like today, they won't do it ever. Cool and crisp in the morning, sunny and warm in the afternoon, beautiful blue skies and falling leaves all day long.
As I was riding into work this morning, I tried hard to imprint the images on my memory. I want to remember what today looked and sounded and smelled like so that when my kids are old enough I can tell them what it was like. Today, no matter what happens, is one of the most significant days in recent American history. I did my civic duty this morning. I trust all American BFers did as well. |
Had a 3 day weekend with the grandkids in Salem, OR but was back commuting this morning. It was wet & windy on the way in but the rain had stopped by lunch time & I drove back to work so I would have time to stop & vote. Supposed to be nice tomorrow. We have a new officer on our team & he is a commuter, most days he rides an old Schwinn SuperSport but has already come in on a nice mountain bike & a new road bike. Good to have another daily commuter.

Not a great start today. I was running late and am nursing a cold. Opening the shed, revealed a bike with a flat rear tire (Grr) no problem usually, since I would normally wheel out the other bike, except I broke the frame at the weekend  Cue impromptu tube replacement and loss of even more time
The ride was OK in the end, but I was about 1/2 hour late. I had forgotten what a benefit it is to have two bikes at the ready... Cheers, Ed |
Three words: windy, windy, windy ! ufff!! felt like from all directions....
I even got late ten minutes, but then again i discovered everybody else had been caugfhgt in traffic, so I as one of the first. Corsaire :) |
same here.. wind wind wind. Took me 10 minutes more it was so strong. I made it though.
|
Warm, 80% chance of rain today and I had the 2nd flat in two days. In light of everything else going on, at least I can ride my bike!
|
20MPH north winds this morning, gusting to the high 30s
At my back! :p I'm going to be doomed riding home this afternoon... Doomed... I had a bizarre/delightful interaction with 5 deer. One little buck and his women-folk. They were scampering all over the place, clearly spooked by something but I don't think it was me. I heard a dog barking just before I saw them. I stopped my bike in the middle of the street (residential - no traffic) and watched. A doe and a buck stopped about 10 yards away and we had a stare-down. The doe started walking toward me and I thought well this is going to be cool. She's coming over to see me. But she suddenly turned on a dime and bolted away, followed by the buck. |
Yeah, very windy in South Jersey too. Fortunately at my back for the ride in. I was already out of it from staying up late watching results, I'm glad I didn't have to battle the wind. Should be a tough ride home.
|
Nice ride this morning. It was supposed to have rained and snowed overnight but in reality not a stitch. It was minus two celcius with a slight tail wind partways. I contemplated taking the long way to work but I didn't. The 10k was enough.
Have a great day! |
