Low 30Fs. Overcast. Very damp. Trail continues to clear. Easy riding on an MTB. More slushy than icy now. Things are supposed to freeze up again soon. I'm hoping the trail clears more before the slop turns back into ice.
Yesterday my evening commute was in the upper 30s and it was raining. Good ride.

Mist, sprinkles, and warm, 55°F. Good ride in. It seems that riding in the cold damp air is better for my cold (and sinuses) than the warm dry air in the office or home. Happy trails!

It was near 60f last night, wore shorts(sorry to rub it in guys) this AM ride was great(40F/5C), even found my lost blinky. I lost it last night in the woods. It was still blinking strong this morning.

Today was a warmer ride with -22c without a wind. Funny though, 70km away in MooseJaw it was -8c. It was a good ride though. I ditched the ski goggles for my regular cylcing glasses after about 5 minutes. It is amazing how comfortable -22C can be when you when the right gear. It is supposed to hit -6C today and close to zero tomorrow. I am looking forward to that. Any cold snaps for you folks in the South won't be comming from this neck of the woods. It is supposed to be warm for until next week.
Have a great day everyone.

Ahhhhhh... a little snow this morning (around an inch) made for a nice ride in this morning. It was warmer then they said it would be, 18F (they said it would be in the single digits, but what's new). Beautiful surroundings, everything was so still and pure.

Rain on the way in to work and snow on the way home.

Commute home was fun. A good way to defeat the cold miserable weather that makes me depressed. Went slow enough, little traffic, got into a nice rhythm, coast up to the red lights turning green, through the red ones with no cars, wished it didn't have to end...

windy, not too cold 38F/3C, crystal clear skies, great ride even though i had to carry a spare wheel on the back of my backpack.

What are those fish I see swimming upstream in the Santa Ana river . . . . so far inland that it seems they won't be able to escape back to sea at low tide? I love my easy spin mornings . . . I see so much more.

Today was the first commute with my Lenten commitment to not say a word or make a gesture to any motorist, pedestrian, or cyclist unless it's an emergency.
So far, so good.

Yesterday, riding home, I raced past a Lamborghini Gallardo, and left it in my dust. Its 500 horsepower engine was no match for my ability to ride between the lanes in dense urban traffic. Bet I got home faster than he did. Plus, my bike cost about 400 times less than his car.

Bikes: Still have a few left!
Took a couple days vacation so I could prune all our fruit trees & trim down the twig dogwoods along the South property line. Now I need a vacation from my vacation!
I did fit in a short recreational ride Tuesday. The sunshine was enjoyable but I was to worn out to go very far. It was 28F at 6AM today & the radio warned of black ice so I did the morning loop by car. Sun was out by lunch time so I rode back on my Grand Jubile. Great ride home in 46F sunshine. Couldn't help smiling at everybody as I rode by. Don

Had a nice ride today, despite running a bit late to work. The windy weather of the last couple of days has now calmed down, so cycling is a whole lot more enjoyable...
Have a good weekend,

28 F / -2 C with 30 mph / 50 kph winds. Some ice patches. Looks like winter has returned! I wore my coat and gloves for the first time this week. Headwinds all the way, meaning that the return trip will be fun.

around 20 °F, not too much ice, good to be back on the bike again after spending the better part of this week in phoenix (mesa it was, actually). i have read elsewhere in these forums of the bike-unfriendly nature of that area, and while i recognize a car-centered urban layout when i see one, i must say the lack of ice looked mighty friendly to me.

wet snow, and windy. was hard, but now I feel nice!
This is good excercise. I'm so gonna fly when the sumer comes, on those slick tires.

How was the commute, you ask? I'd have to say beautiful. Sunny, crisp, cold, pale minty blue sky. Frozen ponds in the park glistening in the morning sun. Quiet. The sensation of flight, floating in the air. In short, beautiful. I'm at peace with creation.

OK, winter in California is not so harsh. But, it's been cold, wet, and dark enough to keep the posers inside the past couple of months.
Now, they're out, like the two who almost knocked me over on the trail this morning.
Granted, I wasn't focused enough, drifted left on a very steep grade... but they could have said something on their approach, instead of slamming through the slot and bumping into me.
Note to self: Spring is almost here. Be on the alert for candy-ass roadie posers.

My commute home this morning was very interesting. Within the first 1/4 mile I almost got hit by a mini van. Another 2 feet and I would have been wearing a Dodge symbol on me. Then about half into the commute I was crossing the Interstate bride when the lights, sirens and bells started to go off then the gates closed. All I could think was oh no I am on the wrong side and the bridge is going to lift and I have no wear to go. Thankfully the bridge operator seen me and opened the gate just before lifting the bridge. The second half was not as exciting but it was clear and in the upper 30's F.

Big crash this morning! It was 40 F when I left my house, and I could feel it getting colder as rode south. There is one house on my route that I think has a water leak on their property because there is always a 15-foot wide puddle of water in the street in front of their yard. I guess it was colder than I thought because I was riding around the puddle (like I do everyday) and it turns out that it was icy and hit the deck before I even knew what was happening. My bike went sliding and I followed it, sliding on my side right into the middle of the puddle. I ripped the palm of my glove, but that was the only damage that I can see. My brake hood was bent over a little bit but can be easily fixed. Mirror, lights, pannier, jacket, and tights were all ok. I was wet and the last 3.5 miles into work was a little cold, but it could have been much worse.
There was a car behind me at the time and when I went down, it stopped in the middle of the road. When I collected myself and moved off to the side of the road, the car proceeded and just drove right by without asking if I was OK. Some people…..
Supposed to get to 55 F this afternoon, so I won’t have to worry about any ice!
