Good Ride today....-15C and calm. One of these days, spring will have sprung and all the ice on the roads will be gone. While I can't wait for my favorite season the weather we are having these days is pretty darn good.

Beautiful sunny day - about 7C/45F on my way to classes this morning, 10C/50F on my way home this afternoon. Quite funny to see pedestrians, some cyclists even, bundled up in coats, sweaters, and scarves while I'm zipping along in a T and track pants (what can I say - Victoria people are weather wimps, and althought the humidity makes it feel colder, it doesn't make it feel THAT much colder).

It's been very busy between classes lately, with the nice weather - have had to do a lot of pedestrian dodging/slow cycling on the busier pathways. Yesterday even had someone purposely move in front of me so I could not pass on a pathway. Wierd. But the beautiful weather makes it worth it.

gah. I'm annoyed.

I haven't been bicycle commuting for long. In fact, I only recently started riding again.

Today on my commute, taking the city specified/designed route, I ended up waiting at two lights in excess of about 8-10 minutes. Turns out these two lights only turn green if they detect a vehicle in the lane. These are the only two intersections on my route that don't have a bike specific lane and sensor.

Time to call up the city. *sigh*

23F at 6AM: thick frost on my deck, lawn & driveway, I decided to drive in. Good decision as it was pretty icy in spots. I fell & bent the crank arm on my Centurion a week ago Monday & didn't want to repeat. (Bill at the LBS had a special tool that straightened my crank arm). It was really balmy by lunchtime & I was able to make one circuit to work & back in the afternoon. 63F is nice while it lasts. Don

The trip home was a piece of cake. There was only about three inches (8 cm) of snow at that time and most roads were clear. I got to make some first tracks on a couple of segments, since the threat of bad weather and the closing of all area schools kept most people home.

However, the roads were starting to freeze, because I heard the studs fall silent a considerable number of times. There will be another 1-5 inches tonight, so I will finish the week with some more winter riding.

Nice photo Paul. I wanted to take some pictures on my return tonight as well(didn't). Part of my trip is on single track through some woods. Very pretty this evening. Tomorrow's gonna be trip!

Winter wonderland has returned to Maryland. As good a ride as I've had this winter. Trees laden with snow, no cars, single track woods full of deer, rabbit and fox footprints. As good as it gets. Y'all have a good weekend

Wow, I think I am going to make my goal of riding in at least once a month. I was able to get it done 3 times in January, but February was a bit of a challenge it has been too cold (for me) in the morning. This morning I bit the bullet, layered up and braved the elements. While it was not as bad as I imagined, it wasn't like riding in the summer.

There were 3 other bikers out this morning and no wind. The temps were in the low 20s. There was ice in my water bottle about 12 miles into the ride. I'm looking forward to the next month as the days become noticeably longer and warmer.

20s, light snow, just continually winter. so great to be out there (at least that's whart people say to me, they say "boy you're really out there, you know that?").

had some garbage thrown at me the other evening on the way home. clever fellow, too - he was driving a company truck! the manager was polite, said he'd "look into it".

Wednesday night I went down about 4 miles into my 13 mile commute. It was on a nice street that I've ridden before, and I'm pretty sure what happened was I was moving my left hand, hit a bump, and lost it while going around 18mph. It's unreal how quickly these things happen. Afterwards I rode home (slowly), took a shower, and drove to the ER for x-rays. No breaks, but I've a sore left hip, a sprained left shoulder, with the worst being sore ribs. The doc said the ribs could be broken but from what he saw on the x-rays he couldn't say if they were. Three people drove around me while I was still on the street until a lady stopped to check on me. A cop came by shortly and asked if I wanted an ambulance etc. With his car-centric mentality he asked "where's your car" to which I answered to his slight amazement "at home in the driveway". From what I could tell he fit the donut eating cop stereotype - the guy was huge! While I worked yesterday, today I'm off so I'm taking it easy and started taking Vicoden last night. People have said since that I should stop riding to work to which I reply "did you stop driving your car after you had an accident?"

This morning I had the pleasure of passing a guy on an electric scooter. When I saw him up the road I thought that I might be able to catch up and get a nice draft. Well, I caught him a lot quicker than I expected. What a piece of junk. No wind, flat road, and it was blazing along at a scorching 12mph. I didn't even have to put it in the big ring to catch and drop him.

Sunny and warm, plus I didn't need to bring anything into work today as my wardrobe was all stocked up. I love riding in my road bike to work with an empty messenger bag. The only problem is that I'm just getting warmed up and I want to keep riding right on past my work.

Nice commute this morning (13F/-10C), over cast so no fancy sunrise. It was a nice lunch cruise too (with some sun), warmed up to 28F/-2C, should be a good ride home. I think I'll try a new route. Ahhhh... thank goodness for the weekend.

34F at 6AM, 63F this afternoon. 3 weeks of clear & dry weather is nice for the commute. Have a good weekend. Don

Edited: One the way home, a large eagle swooped "down for the kill" about 20' off to my right. It seemed like his wingspan was as big as my bike....awesome site...Didn't see what sort of mouse he got...just kept moving.

Around -4 C this morning. I had to defrost the locks on the shed to liberate my bike!

With the appropriate attire, the ride was comfortable and the views accross the countryside on a frosty morning were great. Good riding.

Nice commute this morning, a light dusting of snow, more daylight every day and it was around 17F/-8C. Should be a lunch cruise and ride home after work, but it's not going to warm up much. Bring on spring, I'm ready.

MapTester...the misty stuff arrived just as sent...well the great weather was nice while it lasted.

This has been a very snowy winter. I'm tired of dragging my bike through the snow to get it into the basement at work. I guess it is about time to put some flowers in my helmet.
