How was the commute today?
#8201
Good commute followed by a better compliment. Yesterday morning after showing/changing (my buidling has a gym!), i was wheeling my bike to my offcie and a guy stopped me. Intially I thought he was going to give me crap about bringing the bike inside, etc. but instead he just wanted to say that he sees me daily as he drives to work and he appreciated all my lights/flashers/reflective bands...he siad I look "like a Christmas tree, I can always see you!"

A bit warmer today, and expected to go over 10 C in the afternoon (this is still below seasonal, though). However, with only a 10% chance of rain predicted, it still rained briefly as I rode to work! It wasn't enough to even get caught in the treads and flung up.
More comments from coffee-dependent coworkers this morning, saying how much energy I must have. Heh, I probably have about as much as they do, but I use it up on my ride and usually end up sitting at my desk for a few hours before I decide to walk around again.
It may be different if I didn't have to start at 7am...

Congrats on the first commute DerekU2!
Last nights ride home was windy! I had a pretty strong headwind all the way home. I was pooped by the time I got there.
Ride in this morning was cold, low 30's again, isn't this May? Anyway, besides that it was a good quiet ride in.

High 30Fs again this morning. Yet another sunny ride. I made the mistake of knocking back a double shot of espresso before I left the house. Now I'm queasy. Drinking a lot of water. I guess espresso + physical exertion = Bad idea.
Passed one commuter. Seems like there are more folks commuting this year than last. We exchanged quick greetings as I went by.

Day Two! Went to bed last night with a sore rear end, and woke up feeling a bit better so I decided to give it ago. Honestly, I thought to myself "What will i post on BikeForums if I don't ride in?" It's pretty cold for this time of year - Mid 40's - so I had some warmup pants on.
I was definetley feeling fatigued this morning. Headwind was pretty brutal. I hit the trail and turned on the iPod and the music really helped. In all, my commute time was the same as yesterday.
I'm going to need a new saddle, as the one I have is meant for "comfort" riding and is anything but. I gotta protect the boys with one of those seats with the channel.
Might take tomorrow off...

Nice commute, fastest so far this year by a couple of minutes. One more trip without a flat, gotta love that.

Wow, almost spring again! Blazing sunshine, a little cool and no wind. Got off a little late this morning, and passed a car truck accident just as the EMT's were getting there. Not pretty. Glad I wasn''t crossing the intersection when it happened.
Yesterday, on the ride home found that some jerk with the IQ of a newt tossed a couple of glass bottles on the bike path. I have new found respect for the Conti Touring tires that came with the bike.
OK, I apologize, I didn't mean to insult any newts.

Sometimes it's the little things that matter. Like today, I noticed this scraping sound. What? Tire rubbing on the rim? Pedals? What could it be. I looked down and noticed a rough patch of fabric on my jogging pants near the upper hip. (wearing them over some compression shorts). They are a light grey so I can clearly see that the fabric is suffering some sort of abrasion. I pedal. Scritch. Scritch. Scritch. Then I see it. The velcro on the zipper seam of my open jacket is falling on my hip with every pedal upstroke, and then un-velcro-ing on the downstroke. Argh. This explains it. Now I remember these strange wear marks on all my biking shorts on the right upper hip. Mystery solved. Phew, feels better.

Today was commute #6 for me. I head out at 8:15 a.m. a little cool but made for a comfortable ride. I think I am finally getting used to the hills on the way in, I didn't feel like they were as hard today and it didn't take me any longer than normal.

Crisp spring morning (45 degrees). I forgot my water bottles so I felt like a doofus but it was cool enough that I could complete the ride sans-water. I felt strong on the ride though. No cager problems either.
Now I have to buy some sport drink or water to have a bottle for the return trip.

The fair-weather commuters are out in full force today.
I was eating my breakfast this a.m., looking out the window, and saw
four bike commuters ride by the house in the span of ten minutes.
The spring semester is wrapping up at Duke, we are in finals week now...
soon enough, the townies will have Durham to ourselves again!

I visited Duke for a prospective grad school visit in February '03. It was beautiful and sunny and 50 degrees, an enormous change from 2 feet of snow in Ithaca, NY.

What a great thread. I've been lurking over in the fixed gear forum for awhile, and just stumbled across this. Been commuting for about a year, ~3 days a week, except for winter when I couldn't get myself motivated.
This morning was a little chilly, but nothing a few layers didn't fix. Otherwise, sunny and no troublesome winds. The highlight was riding 12 miles, through 27 stoplights, and my feet never touched the pavement. I got lucky with green lights, but I've also been working on trackstands, and managed to pull them off when I needed to. They weren't pretty, but they were functional, so I'm happy.
I can't wait for ride home.

Had a nice ride in today. It still might rain this evening but I dragged along my raingear. I got to talk to a new commuter. He started on Monday for Million Mile May. I've been doing some extra miles after work to try to get to 1200 miles for this month, 203 down so far. See you all out there.

Today's commute was great, due to the fact that I am finally back to commuting after a 3 week hiatus, and then finally getting off my butt and fixing my chain. Great commute today. I had two wierd "run-ins", basically a runner had yelled at me to give her warning while turning a corner: I couldn't see her, and she was in the BIKE LANE!
And then a bird almost attacked me on the trail near work.
Ahh, 'tis good to be back in saddle.

Just picked up the bike from the LBS, fed the dog, then took off for a little ride. The weather was great and the bike is smooth as butter. I'm actually looking forward to getting up to go to work in the morning. I can't believe I just thought that.

I think spring is finally on it's way back. The temperatures are near normal for early May.
The ride in was great. I seemed a little stronger (aka less tired) at the top of some of the hills this morning and on the way home. Maybe the endorphins were flowing a little heavier
since I got to ride rather than drive.
Here's to another fabulous ride tomorrow.

Nice li'l rainshowers on the way home. Yay for Freddy Fenders, I still got wet but they cut down on the "misery" component dramatically (mud/water flicked up into face)
Put my bike up on the stand and wiped it dry. Can't have a week-old bike gettin' rusty!
NWS was talking maybe funnel clouds for tomorrow but it seems to have dropped off the AFD. Anybody biked to work in a tornado before?
