The ride into work was Damp but uneventful, coming home at 11.00pm I couldn't believe my eyes (not that my eyes could see a lot) The fog was incredibly thick and I instantly prepared myself for the worse, but it was great.
Okay I had problems seeing because as a specs wearer the fog misted up my glasses almost instantly, but it seemed as if drivers didn't want to venture out on the roads because they were wonderfully quiet.

Still I'd rather not cycle in the fog to often.

Late to work by 5 minutes. 13.86 miles, 1 hour, 29 seconds.

I decided to take it comfortably slow on the homebound leg. Resisted every urge to push. I think I could ride like that all day...
What a great way to get around!

(Morning temps, ~40F, by 4 pm it was ~65. Nice.)

Good ride home last night despite the fog.

I slept in this morning so had to hurry up, unfortunately by the time I got on the road all the car drivers where leaving. Had to watch out of cars pulling out of driveways.

Hants Commuter, it was foggy again here as well. I was most annoyed by the traffic using our street as a cut through, and causing such a hold up that I made about 50 yards, gave up and walked to the main road at the end of the street and rode from there. It's a good job the Council put all those speed humps in

back on the bike today! went to performance bike over the weekend and picked out some kevlar beaded tires, and also some 'slime' to put between the tire and tube - I was also persuaded by the sales guy (who was really genuinely helpful) to switch from schrader to presta valves - lets see if all this works to slow my puncture rate

the ride this morning was nice - not too cold - low 40s I would say - there is 1" of snow snow forecast for tomorrow so I am preparing myself for mass hysteria in the DC area - I may not bike as I have read here that the salt etc is a drivetrain killer

I missed a nice day or riding. Sunny and temps hung around 40F. Had to run a bunch of car errands. Man I hate driving a car.

I too am in the sorry state of driving today. And man is it a gorgeous day outside. I needed to save time for my nice loooooong drive to So. Cal. Decided to drive instead of fly for the holiday so that I can bring my bike along and keep my riding up. So I am sacrificing one day but gaining 3. (Yeah, it helps to rationalize out the pain)

OK, I can't wait, so I'll post what I think the commute will be like. I've been unable to commute as much as I'd like recently, but I've got my bike in my office and it's raring to go.

Can't wait to get the *&#%&*# our of here and zoom home in the darkness.

Riding home last night was no fun. I had been feeling a off-colour for the last couple of days, but after about half the trip I really lost any effort. Resigned myself to a slower pace and settled in, only to suffer from a barrage of idiot motorists - especially the guy who nearly took me out at my least favourite Roundabout. I KNOW he saw me coming because we made eye contact, he waited for me to pass him and take my turn off but set off way too soon and nearly collected the rear end of the bike. I rode on, but was very tempted to turn around, catch up and protest.

Cheers,

Ed

On word for this morning's ride, AWESOME! There was 1" of fresh snow on the ground and it was/is still coming down at a moderate pace. I rode my Trek MTB with a Nokian M&G on the front and an IRC Metro on the rear. My trailer was light as I left Ellie home so I could pick up turkey day stuff before heading home. This resulted in some rear wheel slip (usually the weight of the trailer keeps my rear tire nailed to the road).

Commuting by bike definitely adds adventure to ones life.

Cool, breezy, and sunny here in DC. I'd hoped that today would be the start of the icebiking season, but the forecast snow never materialized. Anyhow, it was glorious, and I look forward to the trip home, but not the intensive holiday preparations that will follow.

Well, last night's commute all the way home (20 miles) was excellent. It was nice to get on the bike.

However, my knee is still acting up

I think I have to go into commuting hibernation for a week or so until it finally heels.

Growing older is a real pain

well, yesterday evening's commute i had my first flat while commuting in over 1 year - more than 5000km of non-flat commuting! there was road construction and the road was all torn up with exposed deep streetcar tracks and other stuff that i rode through - i found the culprit which was a large construction size metal staple and BOTH ends cut through the rear tire, the Mr.Tuffy liners and the tube. P.S. Mr Tuffies are great for commuting where the weight penalty is OK!

fortunately this was right at my destination - i was helping a friend move and carry boxes - so i had a place to wash up after getting all dirty fixing it - actually my spare tube had a hole in it so i got a new tube from my friend (also cyclist) and will repair the other 2 later.

this morning's commute was the worst in a while - i'm currently sick and it was misting/foggy and my glasses were fogged up and i couldn't see and i was all dizzy and i felt like i was floating and just had no energy for the ride. ALTHOUGH, i think i felt better after riding and it perked me up a little. otherwise work would have been a nightmare.

First ride since Saturday. I rode my first century on Saturday in the Tour De Tucson so I have been recovering. It was great to get back on the bike though. By the time the 18 mile commute was over I had worked all the stiffness out of the legs. There was very little traffic this morning as well. Must be because of the holiday tomorrow. Found myself going slower than normal and just enjoying the scenery.

Only motor commuting this week (on standby, driving work's pickup truck), so I brought my road bike to work, went for a quick 10 km at lunch today. A nice change, riding in the daylight. It was -2 C and sunny, an invigorating ride!

Nice ride home. I had a light trailer in the AM and heavy trailer on the way home. The ride home is a nice slow down grade and I had a tail wind, so it was very fast. The temps were hovering around freezing and there was still some snow in the bike lane, which made the tires quiet. Happy T-Day to all.

My commute was quite nice. I am recovering for pushing it too
hard and so I'm riding ridiculously slow but I seem to be enjoying
the scenery much more. No rain yet but I know its on the way,
fenders are on and Niterider is working fine......

Ride in this morning was great. Nice and quiet and I seemed to be flying along without any effort. Got to work just as dawn was breaking and the rain starting. Perfect timing.

Great ride in today. For a change we had some sunhine, despite heavy rain before dawn. I caught up with another cyclist who works on the same site and we had a blast of a ride the rest of the way. Its interesting how the company of another cyclist provides motivation - normally I'm a solitary rider.

Cheers,

Ed

Cycle home tonight was fairly bad, in fact it was horrid, no horrid doesn't even come close. Let me take you through my pain.

Left work just as the mobile blood tranfusion service bus was leaving, I could pedal up the hill faster than it could climb it, but its so wide I can't pass it.

Front wheel starts to go 'ping', the spoke kind of ping. Stop to check it. The magnet is hitting the pickup of the computer, re-adjust it. The ping stops for 100 metres, then starts again, I need to take a screwdriver to the magnet.

The traffic is bad and because everyone is trying to squeeze through narrow gaps there is no room to pass on the inside. Oh well sit and wait.

Get on the final stretch home,Ok lets work of this frustration. Step up onto the big chain ring. The chain comes off! Bike slips as I'm putting the chain back on and one of the lights hits the ground and goes out.

Not my evening

Frustrated of Hampshire

Broke down and bought some Lake Zero CX gloves. It was 14 F (10 C) when I left home this morning. There was dim sunshine and virtually no wind. My hands were toasty warm. I expect these gloves will work reasonably well down to 0 F.

Only problem with today's ride was that I last rode on Wednesday. We had snow, which built up on my bike. I store my bike in an unheated shed. My front derailer froze up tight as a drum. It was stuck on the middle free ring so I was not able to go as fast on the flats as I would have liked.

Despite that....it is a very nice day to ride!

Headed out this morning in 14 F temps. My new Lake CX Zero gloves were toasty warm for the entire 8 mile ride into work. Rode on my Trek 6500, which I still have not mounted a studded tire on the front of. I almost took a digger on a patch of black ice...my front wheel slipped, I regained control, by back wheel slipped and the trailer jack knifed. Close call...so onto tire mounting tonight.

Let the wind blow. After a day of gale warnings 60+mph I was psyched up to give it my best this morning and apart from one huge gust of wind that virtually stopped the bike is was pretty easy and I got to work feeling very happy, but of course there's always the homeward journey.

It was very hard work all the way home, but there's something about pitting yourself against the weather that is so satisfying that despite the time it took to get home I just couldn't help smiling to myself.
