I don't know if leaving early to put on extra miles is gonna work out for me. Thursday I did so, and popped a spoke, leaving me to wobble in to the station. Got a ride from a buddy from the station, Thursday evening. Rebuilt the wheel over the weekend. Mileage ~15 - five miles less than had I made my normal journey, without popping the spoke.
Today, I gve myself an extra 20-25 minutes, was riding for 10 minutes or so, when my light went into 'reserve' mode, indicating ~15 minutes of dimmish light - still 1:20 or so till sunup, so I moseyed home and hooked up the backup light, but not in time to guarantee hitting the station before the train left, so I chucked the bike into the pickup, drove to the station, rode the train, rode the bike from station to work, for a total of ~5 miles. Still saved the gas money, but didn't get the workout. Rebuilt rear wheel = schmooooov.
Still not sure the deal on the light. I thought I still had 2 hours of runtime on it till it needed charging again. I'm hopeful that I simply lost count, and haven't destroyed my battery.
Weather was stellar. 70°'s this morning, 90°'s this afternoon. 96° yesterday.
LAST Easter it snowed rather prettily. THIS easter we spent a good bit of time in the pool.

Last commute was Thursday 4/13 I had Friday off but did 2 hours of mountain biking, followed by 35 miles of road riding, should have been 50 miles but my )(@*&#!% friends were late getting to lunch, and then lolly gagged around about the whole thing...never been caged by friends at LUNCH, but...that's basically what happened...I rode hills on Sunday, 10 miles, about half of that was uphill, and 2 miles of that was up a really steep hill. Need to find longer hills to train on...
Commute in this morning was nice, I took the short route cuz I was up late last night, Easter dinner at my wifes grandmothers house, then back home and rehash all of the family goings ons...rode pretty fast though, and made good time.

After spending 37 hours in airplanes in the last three days, I woke up to a nice sunny SoCal day. The ride to the office took about ten minutes.
Today was great! Especially compared to last Friday.
Last Friday... not so great. Two rear flats in the span of about a mile. They both had to be rear flats of course since they're twice as hard to deal with as front flats (especially on a fendered single-speed with rear fork ends). Got the first flat, found a roofing staple in the tire and removed it, replaced the tube with my only spare, reinstalled the wheel, went on my way. After about 3/4 of a mile my rear tire flatted AGAIN! Found ANOTHER staple in the tire. Had no more spare tubes. Got out my patch kit to find that the tube of glue was dried out. Was one mile or so form my sister and brother-in-law's house and I know their garage code so I decided to push the bike there. My brother-in-law rides a little so I figured he might have a patch kit or a spare tube I could borrow. Got there and the only thing I could find was a tube of rubber cement, whcih I used to repair the puncture in one of my two flat tubes. He also has a nice floor pump so I was able to pump the tire up to a good pressure. Finally got everything sorted out, finished the last half of my ride (my commute is about 14 miles one way) and made it to work about an hour later than usual. Fun morning!
FWIW: this morning I had two tubes and a fresh patch kit with me. Of course I didn't flat. I did notice the tread on my Panaracer Paselas was wearing a little thin. So when I got to work last Friday I ordered a set of Kevlar belted tires too.

I thought at first you were kidding me (or just plain wrong) but I checked out the MARTA web site and they proudly state they are one of the few that offers 24/7 access to bikes. Public transit + a bicycle= one less car.

Great ride both ways. Only worked half a day today because it was supposed to be my day off. Ride home was warm and beautiful. I pick up my first new road bike in 18 years Friday, can't wait!

After going mountain biking (with my non-suspension commuter!) for the first time this weekend, I took my sore shoulders and sore sit-bones and biked to work today. That was just what they needed; my sit-bones are pain free and my shoulders feel a lot better.
That said, my commute felt so boring compared to the 16 miles of mountain riding I did this weekend.

Anyway, beautiful weather today. In a fit of desperation last night, I stripped off my generator hub, fenders, and rack. I forgot that I had a bike under my commuting gear! Very fast ride in today and then quit work early to go home and work on a presentation (took the long way home.)

The warm weather has brought out the idiots. I passed a guy on a mtn bike. Not surprising, since he looked to be a bit out of shape and I am on skinny tires. I had already seen him blow through two stop signs, and I didn't want to be around when Darwin came to claim him. Later on, I'm waiting in traffic and he comes up from behind, riding in the gutter and proceeds to jump the red light by about 5 seconds. Then he takes the lane, and traffic piles up behind him in less than a block. This happened all last week with a wide variety of riders. When I was driving on the weekend, I was almost taken out twice by SUV's making blind illegal turns, so it's not just a biking thing...

HOT TONIGHT! First commute in triple digits (already, in April??? Yikes - could be quite a summer...) Slow ride home, partly because of the heat, partly because I waited in 7 minutes of traffic at a 4 way stop near my house... no good way around this intersection yet so I suffer through it - this was the worst I've seen it since I've been commuting on the bike. I needed the rest at that point, so it didn't bother me too much...

Finally back on the bike. No commute since Wed's wreck. I did take a short 17 mile jaunt on sunday. Set a new personal speed record of 42 mph down a very steap hill.
My wrist is still a little annoyed. Not swollen or broken. Just bruised and a little sprained still.
This am had a slight headwind into work. Latter in the afternoon the wind kicked up to something like 30 or 40 mph. In anticipation of having a horrific headwind, I left a few minutes early. Strangely enough, the wind was blowing in the opposite direction it usually is. OMG did I ever have on heck of a tailwind. Try going up a hill doing 30 mph. I made it to downtown denver 20 mintues faster than usual. Egads!

20.53 miles 1 hr 30 mins (ride time). 36 degrees; very slight head wind.
I got stopped by a train today for the first time. The bad thing about waiting for a train is that all of the usually light early morning traffic backs up making for a couple hundred yards of high intensity, heavy traffic until they pass.

Nice ride today! Cool, light traffic, no drama. I rode my new roadie this weekend so it felt strange getting back on the Lemond. The Lemond is so tall and upright, I can see why my Fuji is so much quicker.

very nice. short sleeves/shorts temps in the 70's (broke 100 locally, yesterday). Went for the 'extra 10' option and the bike held up for me. I apparently blinded a guy on the trail with my light, so if you are huge, riding an mtb and wearing a plaid shirt with cut off sleeves, riding in Fort Worth, this morning, My apologies, I adjusted it downward, after you passed.
Still got to the station with 20 minutes to spare, so I took a fast spin around the downtown area to kill time.

Flying bugs ingested = 14

Bike parts broken = 0
Beautiful Sunrise? True
Hard sprints = 4
Rabbit-sized mammals lunging at my wheel (probably nutria) = 1

Annoying commute. My rear derailuer was acting wonky, skipping between two or three gears. It tried adjusting it a couple of times along the way, finally got it good enough for the rest of the ride. Rear tire seemed to be getting flat as well along the ride, hope I don't have a flat by the end of the day.

Rode the mtb today to test out the new brakes and levers. They work well, but the grips are still sliding all over the place which is annoying. I must've put a little too much hair gel on them. Oh well, I'll have to fix that later.

-1 today on the ride in, but it's going to be t-shirt weather on the way home. The second group road ride of the season is tonight, so I'll be taking it easy on the way home. No sense in getting all tuckered out before the ride.

I took a 23 mile detour across the Sacramento into Yolo County. Windy and cool but brilliantly blue skies above. I tried out my new bullhorn/aerobar set up since I'm thinking of using this bike as a tribike this summer. Of course it still only has one gear so I was spinning like a madman. Which ain't necessarily a bad thing.
As I came into town I overtook a few fellow commuters: a guy on an older Nishiki with a squeaky chain (that would drive me insane); an older guy on a bike with an electric assist motor; and yet an older guy on a Trek 5200 (recognized it on sight since that's my geared bike). I gave them all a hearty good morning and blazed past like Lance passing Jan.

no ride this morning, have to ship an e-bay sale, (funding my cycling habbit by selling old car parts :-) but I brought my bike in my car, and plan to leave the car at work and ride home, VERY windy this morning, probably will be just as windy on the way home. Will make for an interesting ride.
Broken spoke
Got a little extra resistance training. Broke a spoke at the start of my commute to work and had to ride there and home with the rim rubbing on the brakes and the tire rubbing on the frame.
