85.8?! :p

Temperature still hovering around 32F this morning, with an okay tailwind. Saw some Canada Geese and a pretty happy lab. Nothing unusual to report.

pinkrobe 04-10-07 08:12 AM

Let's see - it's raining, the forecast is for 4" of snow, and I dropped my chain on the way in. If I make it home without walking, I'll be a happy guy.

First commute in on the bike today. It's 9 miles from my house to Light Rail. And the train ride gave me time to cool off since we don't have showers at work. The one problem I had is I shoulda put my booties on. Probably should have dug out the full fingered gloves, but my fingers weren't cold, just my toes.

MyPC8MyBrain 04-10-07 08:31 AM

Finally.. between traveling, working in another location, vacation, and a couple of lazy days, I'm back on the bike!

Ride in was a brisk 34 degrees with a killer headwind. Had to be 25mph plus as it cost me four gears on the level. In true Colorado fashion, the wind will likely spin 180 degrees so I can have the same headwind going home.

Weather man said slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. It was raining 20 minutes ago, and now it's snowing. Why bother listening to those clowns...sigh.

Gotta ride long and hard these days. RideTheRockies is in a couple months and I'm waaaaay behind on training. Not to mention the 20# winter insulating layer that needs to be shed.

Don

An embarrassment of riches: Two bikes at work. With tri season coming up, I need to get more running in. I'd planned to run at lunch but a last-minute meeting came up. So I decided I'd just run home with the vague plan that I'd pick up the bike later that evening while running some other errands in the minivan. And of course, that got set aside too.

So I rode my race bike to work, put that in the bike box, and moved the fixed gear over to the bike cage in the next building. I don't have a u-lock, but it is a locked cage. I suppose it's possible for a ne'er do well bike thief to walk in with a fellow commuter and walk out with the fixed gear but I'm figuring that the average bike thief would break his neck trying to ride it.

HardyWeinberg 04-10-07 11:22 AM

Sunny but cold. Supposed to be down to 30s tonight too. You'd think this was New England or something.

Man, I would pay cash money to see the look on the thief's face as he tried to ride it. "Whaaat the .....?"

I'm Pathetic

So I'm at home sick and really want to be on a bicycle. Feeling boredom and the need to do something, I resume fiddling with handlebar positions and mulling over what length to cut my stem to. Eventually though I find myself sitting on the bike, leaning against the kitchen cabinet with both feet on the pedals, and daydreaming about riding. How sad.

I've had food poisoning since Sunday and haven't eaten much of anything since Saturday night. I don't think the intelligence level of my posts has gone down, which tells you how much thought I put into them anyways considering how lightheaded I am right now. My post count has gone up in the past three days though...

I can't comment on the intelligence level (it seems fine to me), but I did note that your spelling, punctuation, and grammar are still well above average for BF. Are you REALLY a high-school student? :)

If so....maybe there IS hope after all.

<edit> And I've just noticed I've had a bunch of posts here today commenting on the posts of others. Hmmmm...maybe I'm bored?

I haven't seen any. I don't know why people do that.
:o

Florida cold on the way in this morning. But I broke the 200 mile mark since I started commuting.

I had to haul some heavy tools home from work today and I caught a light rain on the way home. Its supposed to rain all day tomarrow so I am waiting on the rain to let up some so I can go get a rain coat or poncho (any suggestoions?).

It was great to see the looks on my co-workers faces today. One of them told me it was going to rain all day tomarrow, thinking that I would drive in tomarrow. And I told him "I guess I am gonna have to ride up to Wal-Mart tonight and get a poncho then".

Lamplight 04-10-07 03:22 PM

Chilly this morning but nice. I saw four deer in the park and got to work with one minute to spare. :) It's supposed to rain soon but hopefully it will hold off until I get home as I didn't ride my nasty weather bike today.

chephy 04-10-07 04:25 PM

Good. Cagers behaved themselves.

Got into a lot of unexpected mud taking a cool shortcut. Yay, MTB-ing! :D

vrkelley 04-10-07 07:28 PM

A near 'tangle up with 2 dogs on long leashes (running all over). Narrow miss. Otherwise a good ride round-trip

JonRags 04-10-07 09:18 PM

Commute home wasn't bad. Much drier than the ride in. I did the whole ride home today and that was 20 miles. I think there is a shorter way, but the way I went I stop by the store my wife works at to say hi since I won't see her tonight.
There was a near run in with a dog, but an alert owner (albeit stupid as he didn't have his dog on a leash) saved me there.

buzzman 04-10-07 11:04 PM

another fantastic tailwind for the ride in today.

Came home a lot slower on the bike path tonight. had no desire to rush home anyway at the end of a long day.

First day back commuting in a while. My wheels needed to be trued badly and I never had time to get to the bike shop. I finally had a friend true them and it made a world of difference. My dad had the day off and rode in with me. It was nice having company. At an intersection we heard a dog barking. We turned to see where the dog was and found it in the yard of the house on the corner... with another dog getting it's morning jollies. We ended up getting honked at. We typically ride side by side on the big streets as they are wide and there isn't much traffic. When I passed the guy that honked, I noticed the fire fighter sticker just as he drove by and gave me the bird. The ride home was uneventful for which I am thankful.

vtjim 04-11-07 06:25 AM

Yesterday I was riding home and spotted a roadie, pretty far back. I decided to see how I could hold up with the Transworlds instead of the old knobby tires. I cranked it up to 20+MPH (400 watts!) and maintained it pretty well. He never got closer once I spotted him back there. :o

And then there's this alert that just came in this morning...  :crash:

Discovered Monday night after my bike was creaking the whole way home that there is a crack in my frame where the seat post meets the top tube/seat tube. Took the bike to the LBS last night to have them check it over and they couldn't believe that it was cracked where it was. I am hoping it will be covered under warranty but I haven't heard back yet. Drove in today due to rain but I am going to get out my old MTB tonight and get it ready for tomorrow.

knucklesandwich 04-11-07 07:12 AM

Nice ride in, but the ride home may not be so good- supposed to rain, and my rear fender is on my MTB from the weekend...

On the other hand, I may get out of work early today due to IT doing some work on the servers, so at least if it's a rainy ride, it'll be before the evening rush hour.

Interview today on the other side of town in the afternoon, no bike :( First time i've driven to work in well over six months. First time my wife's commuted by public transit in over a year. I hope her experience was a good one.

Nice and bright and brisk on the way in today. As I was going in today I saw a friend from college going into a building close to where I live. I stopped and we chatted for a minute, and as she turns to go into her building she says 'have a nice ride' and I say 'you too' and then correct myself with 'have fun at work!' ... I hate that, but it's still pretty funny when it happens.

DataJunkie 04-11-07 07:57 AM

ARGH! People are irritating the crud out of me!

Riding down my nearly empty 5 lane street to the MUP. I was in the right lane like normal watching a motorist pulling out from a side street and then the driver attempted to pull out directly in front of me. HA! I foiled her\his dastardly attempt at clobbering me due to the fact I had already switched lanes. Plus, I could see this happening a mile away. It doesn't take a genius to determine that even with a reflective jacket, reflective tape on my bike, a bright blinkie strategically placed on the right side of my handlebars, and a headlight that motorists still won't see me. For god's sake they can't even seem to notice semi trucks. Anyhow, the fool honked at me. Uh? Where upon the motorist received the universal sign for WTH? followed by several one fingered salutes.

Later a camouflaged ped scared the heck out of me. No harm. No foul.

30 minutes after that I rode under a train bridge and was alarmed by the fact that there was two strange persons on either sides of the trail. I pushed it up to 400 watts and hauled arse out of there. Then I blew up. :p
Finally, I was in a crosswalk that I use to meet up with a small MUP I use, where a brilliant blonde lady blocked the crosswalk and then some with her gargantuan SUV while chatting on a cell phone.

Apparently I should have worn my oscar the grouch jersey today instead of monday. Back to sulking in my garbage can.... I mean cubicle.

gbcb 04-11-07 08:00 AM

Uneventful ride in, though I did see a guy carrying a cage of chicks on the back of his bike -- very cute. A guy on the bike next to him tried petting one through the mesh, but it ran to the other side of the cage.

On the way back, I took the long route. There's one part that always scares me -- a pitch-black two-lane bumpy underpass on a sharp blind turn. Not so worried about traffic behind me, but oncoming traffic gives me the willies. As I was passing through this section today, I suddenly saw headlights reflected on the wall, and the sound of screeching tires... when my heart started again, I realised the sound came not from the cars in front of me, but the cars ABOVE me (over the underpass). Creepy. The rest of the ride was uneventful except for a strong headwind.

pinkrobe 04-11-07 08:28 AM

Bright, sunny ride in. I may have to switch to darker lenses in my glasses. It rained/snowed last night, but all that was left on the road was little 2" circles of frost. Even these went away by the time we got to a well-travelled street. So much for the 4" of heavy wet snow that was predicted.
