Cool ride, but I was prepared for it, so it was very nice.

pinkrobe 09-27-07 01:21 PM

I really need to get my light built. It was verging on dark this morning. Hopefully all the crap I ordered for the lights will be here by the time I get back from vacation.

seafoamer 09-27-07 01:33 PM

1 word: frikkenHOT!
84F & extremely muggy. I love humidity, & this even got to me. Still better than cold IMO.
(my 4th r.t. commute)

Stujoe 09-27-07 04:32 PM

I don't know whether it is the cooler weather or what but I have felt great riding all week. I have felt like a 20 year old again on the bike. Legs are not tired at all.

blackcannon 09-27-07 08:14 PM

Rode to work today after a week off the saddle...Felt very stiff and weak this morning...Pushed myself in the ride back home from work and felt stronger...Thinking about converting my Motobecane commuter to singlespeed but not sure yet...Have a couple hills in my area...

buzzman 09-27-07 08:57 PM

been doing some speedy rides in these past few days. then rolling home at a slower pace after I meet up on the ride home with my wife. tonight did a loop to visit a friend in JP and came back through Brookline. It's HOT here! Weird weather for late September.

scottmorrison99 09-27-07 11:57 PM

Ride in was fast and quiet. Burned out one of my headlight bulbs. Redundant lighting is a good thing. I took a detour on the way home to listen to my eldest play the sousaphone at the high school marching band practice. Avoided getting right hooked after being passed from behind. I got that skid stop down now.

jonathan180iq 09-28-07 05:50 AM

Full moon, cool breeze, very light traffic and I set my personal best on the way to work this morning.
15.91mph. That's 6.1 miles in 23 minutes. Normally I am around 24-25 minutes.

Very nice morning.

tarwheel 09-28-07 05:50 AM

This week was my first 5-bagger ... I bike commuted every day. Usually I drive at least one day because of meetings or to restock clothes and supplies. This week I brought a few clothes with me each day in my seat bag, and brought some dirty laundry home a few days. That makes a big difference. The weather was also gorgeous all week with mornings in the 60s and afternoons in the 80s. Doesn't get much better than that. I'm gonna take a day off riding tomorrow and join my friends for a long group ride on Sunday.

Big Ron 09-28-07 06:22 AM

Wasn't planning on riding in today as I'm going to be riding cycle NC next week and should probably be resting my legs.... I woke up at the usual time though and figured what the heck? It was/will be nearly ideal conditions for me today, Beautiful nearly full moon, cool and not too humid, no winds on the way in. Heading home with a 10-20mph tailwind bringing in cooler, less humid air and pushing me home.

dalmore 09-28-07 06:47 AM

Yesterday on the way home, I misjudged my dismount at a stop and straddled the top tube. Let's just say "It was a bad one."

This morning, I had a valve stem shoot off my front tube. Thankfully I was stopped at the time. I heard a pop like a champagne cork and saw something hit the pavement about a foot in front my foot. That looks like a valve stem I thought. Then the light changed and I started to pedal and my front tire was flat! DOH!

Later I met up with a heavily tatooed 20-something dude wearing knicker length blue jeans and white tank top, waiting out the traffic light by trackstanding on his fixie! I bowed before him.

Pig_Chaser 09-28-07 07:54 AM

This morning i tried going down a closed road. It was all dug up and rough so i pretended i was doing alittle cyclocross. Got some pretty weird looks from the constuction workers but no one said anything.

Wulfheir 09-28-07 08:04 AM

i usually bike at 6:20, today i biked at 7:35 omg what a difference. i almost died a bunch of times, got buzzed a million times, i flew countless birds and asks several drivers to get out of their cars. i will never, and i mean EVER, leave the house after 6:30, i'll just take the day off. if this was my first commute ever i'd throw my bike in the trash and buy a hummer.

mikepop 09-28-07 08:22 AM

Peasoup-level foggy morning. I prefer rain. I had to stop every mile or so and clear my glasses. Lots of traffic, but no problems.

truman 09-28-07 08:41 AM

Weird. The morning itself was actually lovely, clear and cool - and I even got ready just a hair early. Good thing, because I tightened my pann down too tight and bent the cheesy little bottom hook. Got that mooshed back together and got going. 5 Minutes down the road my NiMH headlight battery goes to autodim, indicating low juice, so I pull over and hook up the spare.

After that, I just felt kind of slow and weak, got out of breath on the climb into town. At one point, I actually thought, "Jeeze, am I still on the trail? Feels like I've been here forever..."

I'm chalking it up to an "off-day" and a weak dinner last night. We'll see what the ride home brings.

nmanhipot 09-28-07 08:56 AM

First time not commuting by bike today since early September. It was WIERD. I had a special group ride to do last night and had to bring a bunch of BBQ stuff to work today - we're gonna have a picnic at the park today, play some sports and go home early! And yes, I'll top it off with a rare early afternoon commute. I can't wait! L8R!!

pinkrobe 09-28-07 09:09 AM

Wulfheir, I understand what you're talking about. If I went in at 6:30 a.m., I could do wheelies down the middle of road with flames shooting out of my ass and nobody would say anything 'cause there's nobody out there. I ride in just before 8:00 and leave just after 5:00, so I'm used to playing with cars. I think the secret is to sprint for every light like it's your last, take the lane, look mean and grow eyes in the back of your head.

The ride in today wasn't bad at all. I've got pretty good at a 40 km/h sprint for 1000m in heavy traffic up a slight hill. :D

jyossarian 09-28-07 10:45 AM

Unplanned commute today. VPN wasn't working from home so I went to the office. Midday traffic was snarled which slowed me up, but still put me ahead of everyone else. Stupid VPN.

JoeyMac 09-28-07 11:04 AM

On my lunch break I brought my hybrid to the LBS down the street from my office to get a tune-up and have some fenders installed (after I got soaked yesterday in a sudden downpour). I am looking forward to getting back on my freshly tuned bike after work and then riding Critical Mass! Yay Friday!

buzzman 09-28-07 07:40 PM

the weather report said it was going to rain all day. they were wrong, wrong, wrong!

A beautiful day!

vtjim 10-01-07 06:10 AM

Nice ride. Sunny but hazy. Mid 50s. Bit of a headwind blowing off Lake Champlain at 20-30MPH but it was quartering, so not too crushing. Should be a nice tailwind for the ride home.

Saw one roadie headed north at a good clip. I passed a girl (looked high-school aged). Not many cyclists out any more. :(

robjs 10-01-07 06:22 AM

Distinctly average - flatted on the way in (really need to get different tyres!), and then it was pouring down on my way home -- I was completely soaked.

seafoamer 10-01-07 08:29 AM

Kinda weird how the weather was colder in southern new england, than it was in northern new england. On the morning news @ 7:50 a.m. they were reporting 50's in N.H. & Vermont, and low 40's in suthern Mass & Ct..
My thermometer read 35F. (I'm in souther Mass)
Anyway, I wore the wind breaker, rolled up Dickies over bike shorts, and was warm. Had full-finger bmx gloves on, and was surprised that as I turned into work I felt my fingertips were getting cold.

tarwheel 10-01-07 08:56 AM

Our gorgeous weather continues in the Southeast. The drought may be bad for everything else, but it is great for bike commuting. Weather this week looks to be a repeat of last week -- highs in the 70s and low 80s, with lows around 60. I've bike commuted six days in a row and might just make it 10 as long as this weather holds.

neilfein 10-01-07 09:08 AM

Nice quiet ride in today, I started at 5:40 am. 19 miles, 1:50. My first ride all the way in in the AM!

PDay 10-01-07 09:30 AM

I commuted for the first time today! Its been pretty hot lately and Ive been meaning to do it, but I finally did. Its only about 2 miles (but Id be doing it 2x per day, so 8 miles a day). It was much faster than parking/walking to class. I am kinda worried about my bike though, but Im sure itll be ok. \

This will definitely become a habit.

Congratulations! You're right, this becomes addictive very quickly.

Cool! I remember my first ride all the way too. 14 miles. I was strutting like a peacock!! Good job.

HardyWeinberg 10-01-07 09:49 AM

Nice ride. Blinding sun, I was expecting rain. 40sF. Hope I'm not overdressed (long sleeves) for ride home. I doubt it.

Brian T 10-01-07 09:52 AM

Great ride today. Left the house at 0545. Headlight went dead about half way:eek: Lucky I had a light on the helmet. :D
