12 C and beautiful sunshine this morning, with a large number of baby rabbits charging around the countryside.

Makes a nice change from the 4 C on Tuesday, which required me to dig out the trousers and woolly hat.

Holy crap...that's not something I've considered (I'm still fairly new to bike commuting...got about 550 miles on my bike so far).

What kind of mileage did you have on that chain?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I've been cycling for over forty years, and it hasn't happened to me yet.

Oh yeah and my commute...the last half mile on the 2 lane (1 each way) 55mph stretch was interesting. I turned onto it behind a medium sized 2-axle flatbed truck. As the driver sped up to 55 the 20mph headwind got the best of her load securing skills and her load of empty boxes and pallets fell into the road. I stopped and helped clear the road...I think my high-vis vest was helpful there for stopping traffic.

After we had moved all the stuff out of the road I continued on my way. About 500 feet down the road an 18 wheeler got behind me and couldn't pass due to oncoming traffic. I was working hard into the headwind but only doing about 12mph on my hybrid. He laid on his horn several times. I gave him some friendly waves, all the while thinking I've gotta get that road bike I'm dreaming about so I can tuck down into the wind.

Nice, relaxing commute in (around 67). Very humid though....we desperately need rain in this area, if only to cool things down. Of course, they're talking about rain AFTER I go on vacation...grumble.

Sticky! Humidity in the 80% range. Didn't really notice it until I got to work and stopped riding. A big bad thunderstorm blew through last night so there were some damp spots and areas with a lot of green leaves on the MUP.

Hardly anyone out this morning. The odd pedestrian (they're all odd, I know ) here and there, and 3 cyclists going the other way.

Another nice one. I'm reliably averaging 29-30 minutes each time now (7.1 miles). Started the year at 36 minutes, and when I first tried bike commuting 2 years ago (which didn't last long due to health issues), it was 40 minutes or more.

Started commuting about 2 months ago, 1 day a week. It's just a mile each way, but lots of fun. Today was beautiful. I love this!

I shaved another 15 min. off of my commute. Normallly I ride with a co-worker which means I take a little longer of a route and ride at a more relaxed pace. It usually takes 90 minutes. Today I did the 15 miles in 60 min. on a loaded up full suspension dept. store mountain bike. Today was also my first ride with power grips. Not sure what the advantage is yet other than I can pull up on the pedals. I didn't sense that my pedaling was any more efficient, but I'm guessing I need to develope the right technique? Anywho... great commute today. Oh yeah.. forgot my work shirt, so I'm stuck in my t-shirt. *sigh*

Story of my commuting life. It's pretty messed up that I get headwinds in both directions.

Nice ride in this morning except for the jaywalkers darting in front of me. I nearly took out a US Park Ranger (with gun) walking in the middle of Virginia Avenue and a clueless government bureaucrat standing in the middle of the right lane hidden behind a bus. Good thing I didn't get shot.

Somewhere between 700-800 on this one, I think. First time for me. I keep the bike fairly maintained (not really babied, not really neglected) but I beat the crap out of it on my commutes. It was certainly my own doing.

Just another learning experience.

As per my commute today, carpooled it in. It sucked.

Not sure your experiance, but I've snapped every Shimano chain I've ever tried, and never yet broke a Sram... I get about 1500 miles on a chain before it's stretched enough to replace. you prolly know this already, but keep an eye on it - if it gets too stretched it will eat your (expensive) cogs and chainrings as well.

My commute was awesome: slight tailwind, gorgeous weather, averaged 17+.
Cheers

I am officially the biggest wimp evar. I have 9 miles and it takes me 60 min... I was using the mountain bike as an excuse but now I can't do that anymore... sigh.

Today was lovely - first time I've gone the full distance with Sir Lancelot (1984 Raleigh). I think I'm getting the hang of the friction shifting, and wow is that bike ever lighter than my Norco Pinnacle! I was taking it easy and still took a couple of minutes off my time.

The only problem was that evidently I didn't tighten the seat nut enough after adjusting the tilt last night. I had to ride the last mile and a half kind of perching on the seat and trying not to get tipped off backwards! Off to beg a wrench and some Loc-tite from the maintenance guys...

Wow, it is the best weather here! 80°, sunny not real humid. Pity to be working right now. Going to have to take off early and enjoy it. Raced a squirrel over a bridge today, that was fun

Nice weather this morning. Got my 12.38 miles into work in 38:17. New record for me. 19.4 mph average, which is another personal best.

Home commute last night was also a personal best. 10.60 miles that direction, broke my 40 minute barrier at 39:38 and averaged 16.0 mph. (Uphill 750 ft climb going home.)

I only have a grand total of 300 miles since starting, but that's 300 fewer miles on my car. 12 rides in May, 10 in April, 4 in March.

Actually left early enough so that I could ride at a leisurely pace. I had to anyway since I'd left my spd shoes at work (had to take the van home last night), and since I was wearing my dress shoes, there'd be no hard riding or skidding.

When I come through midtown towards the Capitol on L Street, I have a nice bike lane all the way until the edge of the park (15th and L, if you know the area). Because of the timing of the lights between 16th and 15th street, I always have to wait for the light at 15th. What I've started to do lately is to take my spot dead center in the motor lane at the light and just hold that position all the way to 11th. Since I've started doing this, no one has buzzed or even honked at me. I'd mention that in A&S, but I can't stand the pissing and moaning there. So I thought I'd just share that with you guys.

Nice slow ride w/ wife. Ran into strip-mall-mate halfway in, so it was quite a caravan the rest of the way.

Been commuting in the hot weather all week (except Monday). Sticky in the mornings and hot in the afternoons. I have seen a lot of cyclists out on my way home, mostly roadies but some other commuters.

Found out this week that I am finally getting a new frame for my newer road bike and that it should be back together this weekend

Great commute and got lucky with timing on my nightmare intersection at the end of my commute.
I just came to the stop sign waited till my turn with the cross traffic then went across and didn't even get to the stop light when the light went green and the two vehicles in front started moving up the hill and left on the highway. No one even behind me so I could just glided accross the 6 lane highway at my liesure with no one to buzz me.
Wheeee. Nice start to June! Hopefully this is a new trend.
