Great ride last night. Went the wrong way (intentionally) and did a great MTB ride through Nose hill park. We are lucky to have such a great park in the city limits - at times there is a great view of the city (at night the city lights are great) and for other sections I can't even see or hear the city. I feel like I am out in the prairie.

This morning - just another fast ride on the paths.

jpdesjar 07-10-08 09:02 AM

enjoyed the ride this morning due to some drier air...there was an interaction with a driver that left me a bit frustrated but i was laughing the whole time because she was clearly the one who cut into my lane, i think i ended up getting through the light ahead of her and pointing to my a**...she didn't seem pleased

Bike probably wont be done again today.

neilfein 07-10-08 09:07 AM

While waiting to catch the train, I ran into a guy with the same bike as I have - a Dahon Curve D3. We compared notes before boarding.

Hmmph. Flat tire to start the day, new tube has a slow leak as well as the one I broke while attempting to fix yesterday! Otherwise a fine ride (since the leak is slow). I ordered a new tire, this one is pretty beat up.

106F (41.5?C) with "unhealty for all groups" air quality last night. I might as well take up smoking Marlboro reds.

AmberRae 07-10-08 11:15 AM

had to drive in again, optom. appt. 10 miles away, not up to 20 m round trip yet. (hopefully soon!) but man... the difference i feel btwn riding my bike, and driving my car... it's unexplainable... i think i want to go car free - as soon as i can handle long distances. i just... i just love biking and the feeling it gives me

Yea, One of these days when I get in better shape I'll ride the 90 mil round trip on the weekends to sail as opposed to drive.

Fargin' cold!
It's not getting any better
I should heed my Mom's advice:
travel with a sweater.

Nice ride yesterday, but it's amazing how much difference one hour makes. My shift started and ended an hour later than usual, so I had heavy traffic and heat both ways. Bummer! On the other hand, I felt really good in spite of the annoyance and added a couple extra miles to my ride in.

tkblazer 07-10-08 04:08 PM

first commute ever, did about 30 miles one way in about 2 hours... it was nice to not have to sit in traffic and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds.. i only got cutoff my one moron too!

77midget 07-10-08 04:30 PM

Today was a nice ride! Had to leave early for a followup chiro appt, so I left at 4pm. There was not nearly as much humidity today, and I left myself some time, so I took the slightly longer way home and enjoyed the ride. As I had planned for today, I pushed a bit harder on the hills today, and it was worth it.

back is still a bit off, but much better-one more visit next week and I should be through this.

Wow. Way to jump in with both feet!

trombone 07-10-08 04:34 PM

Nice one tkblazer. Welcome to the club! That's a fairly hefty commute - how often are you going to do it?

Nice weather, but still cold. My toes were numb when I arrived at the office.

virre 07-10-08 05:44 PM

Argh!

Flat Tire, afraid it's a blow out, economical challenged at the moment.

Oh well tomorrow I will try to fix that.

First ever post in bikeforums.net!

I've been doing split-commutes to work for the last four weeks ...drive in with bike on Tuesday, ride home (15 miles) that evening, leaving car at work; take a break Wednesday; ride in on Thursday morning, drive home with bike. I plan to double the mileage starting next week, now that my legs, lungs, and sit-bones are getting used to the mileage.

My first mishap happened today...blew both tires about four miles from home. There's a sharp edge of a curb from a side-street (missing about two inches of pavement), and I hit it pretty hard. I could've gone out a bit in the street to avoid it, but I wasn't sure if any cars were approaching, so I sort of panicked. Today I bought a mirror. :-/

Fortunately my wife was able to pick me up, and I was only half an hour later than planned for work.

wez312 07-10-08 07:50 PM

This is def. the best I've ever felt going up the hill on the way to work. That's not saying a whole lot considering I've only done it probably 6 or 7 times but it's getting easier!

ah the wife saves the husband in distress... don't worry my wife has saved me too :thumb:

Had some great cooler days here in Hotlanta, and lower pollution levels, too. Makes for pleasant commuting.

Somehow, the thunderstorms that go with the cooler temps missed me, and all I got were the benefits.

:)

It never gets easier, you just go faster

Pig_Chaser 07-10-08 09:07 PM

The commute home was a blast. I ran into my former riding partner Trevbo on elerslie and we raced. I hit and sustained speeds over 50kph trying to chase him down on the flats. He won the race but probably only because he was in his car at the time.

It's amazing how true that is...
I've been taking it easier, though. On some stretches I just won't push myself. Except if Mr Yellow Biker is around to push me faster.

I really need to rebuild my rear wheel before the spokes start snapping

wez312 07-10-08 10:01 PM

I need a Mr Yellow Biker...any volunteers?

jterribili 07-10-08 10:10 PM

humid ride in this afternoon, but good. will be leaving in about 30 minutes or so for home - we'll see if there is rain or not - looks sporadic on the radar. oh yeah...i'm tired

trombone 07-11-08 01:14 AM

Left work an hour early today. Much more pleasant ride home, as I missed the Friday evening rush hour. It also meant it wasn't dark.

YoKev 07-11-08 05:25 AM

I picked up a 1965 Phillips 3-speed a couple of weeks ago for $40. I've been cleaning it slowly, and riding it around town.

I woke up today, felt lucky, and pedaled it 15 miles to the office. What a classy ride

Hopefully the tires hold air and I can enjoy my ride home tonight:lol:

cg1985 07-11-08 05:53 AM

Yesterday, my girlfriend rode her bike to the bus station, bussed and bussed to work. She got out a half hour later than I did, so I waited for her and we commuted home together. It was a nice ride, would have made a larger detour to hit the countryside, but there was a storm incoming and she didn't have bike clothes.

This morning wasn't too bad. Though there was a slight headwind for me on the way to work. Made this more difficult.

My Boss isn't usually here on Fridays. Today he is. :(

Still no bike. #$%^%.
