Wet. Wasn't supposed to be so I didn't grab any rain gear. Just rode off in my dress pants and button down shirt. Guess I'm screwed for the ride home. Wet and cold. lol!
|
Going out the door this AM looked at the time... Yikes! quick call, "sorry, running about half hour late" Got on the bike, nice tail wind and great conditions, saw another rider on a similar, but in my opinion, inferior bike trying to catch me. Can't have that! Spent maybe half the journey cranking it out in top gear, a new personal best time! 42 minutes! Wahooo!

Well, this is about yesterday. but it was amazing, great marine layer in the morning so i didn't sweat like a monster. but of course i did going home. The main highlight yesterday was biking past a guy yesterday, who i noticed was extremely tall(and I'm almost 6'6"). Coming up to a stoplight a while later another biker at the light next to me says "Do you know who you passed going up that hill?" and to my obvious answer of no he replied "That was Bill Walton." Pretty cool :)
|
I think I have turned a corner of sorts. I was tired today, but getting on the bike was second nature, and getting the hills behind me to get home was just part of the ride-didn't press or push or anything, just got it done. It was a bit cooler today and not as humid, so it was a nice ride.
Turning another corner, I think that I have outgrown my pedal clips/straps. I notice that I cannot get the ball of my foot exactly where I want in order to pedal efficiently, and I am not getting power from every part of the rotation. Time for clipless shoes and pedals. Really starting to love commuting. |
I actually saw another biker on my commute back home today...that was kinda exciting
|
The ride home was sunny and hot and crowded and icky...but it was quiet, so I was happy.
|
Ride to work was normal.. pretty smooth ride.
Ride home was ok too, but at one point, some lady that thinks rules don't apply to her almost got killed by me and/or the car that was to the left of me. We were cruising fast, maybe 25-30ish.. (down a slight grade) light starts to change, we're close enough to the intersection to go through the yellow, and this snooty lookin' lady starts walking without even looking, before her signal even changed.. my squeaky front brake probably saved her life because she looked when it started squealin.... |
Cold cold cold. 5C this morning. My fingers were numb when I got to work.
|
Oddly enough, trombone, my ride was the opposite: It's nearing 80F in Eastern NC and it was pretty darned humid as well.
It was still a good ride. |
there was a bit of a mist rain this morning, and damp roads, but otherwise a nice ride, even if a bit slow. There is nasty weather heading this way though, and the ability to ride home is not 100%. We'll see.
|
My bed was really cozy this morning and I did contemplate not getting up... ;) I however crawled out of bed and didn't regret biking to work! There was rain a part of the way but it was refreshing.
I feel I'm getting stronger and it's always getting easier to cruise. I've actually started wondering whether to try to search for a second hand road bike. I love my mountain bike but because I use it regularly for off road biking I don't want to strip it of its knobby tires. |
I was riding down the street at a pretty good pace, daydreaming and enjoying the sunrise, when I felt a "thwack!" against my contact lens. WTF! I wiped my eye and saw......a bug.
When I got to work to change clothes, I found a little piece of what used to be that bug in the corner of my eye, resting on my inner eyelid. Ick. |
Monday was quite humid, but cool. Had mist on my headlight. Monday night ride home from work was pretty nice. My wife was out walking the dog on the MUP so I walked with them the last half mile.
This morning's ride in was nice. Pretty cool, about 63 F and overcast. I hope to get four days in this week. Yesterday I had a customer appointment, so I had to drive. |
enjoyed the ride this morning, legs felt really good and i am really feeling the new pedals
GR-9s are great for soft soled shoes for some reason i was thinking about how i am going to set the bike up for winter riding...YIKES ;) |
I could have done without this wakeup call.
So, I was running early this morning and rode through downtown denver and took a LRT line that runs through the east side of downtown. Took the line to dayton. Headed south on Dayton to Orchard. Then headed west on Orchard through a decent sized intersection that leads under our main North South highway. While approaching it a double turn lane in the opposite direction decided to go even with me coming closer and closer. I slow down avoiding the last idiot while simultaneously showing my displeasure with a certain finger. Then another car decided to go in the far turn lane. So here I am riding at about 15-20 mph with the hood of a SUV looming about 20 feet away. I slammed on my brakes and flew around the backside of the SUV barely missing it. My only thoughts were "not again!" and "no way am I going to the hospital for a second time this year". The wife had noted that my reaction times seem to be improving in day to day activities. Guess that is a good thing. Oh and I should have listened to the voice in my head that said it would have been a good idea to avoid that intersection. Office parks suck! ...but I am still in one piece. Time to augment that route. |
It finally happened today. Nice roll in, fast, smooth, cool. I get to work, start to change, and realize I didn't pack a shirt. So here I am, sitting in my cube wearing my cycling jersey, hoping no one comes around, (someone did), and waiting patiently for the wife to stop by to drop off two shirts so I can keep one in my desk so that this never happens again. Ah well, at least I got to ride this morning.

The ride home last night was my best so far. Bike the 10.5 miles in 42 minutes, averaging 15 MPH (okay, so I ain't winning the yellow jersey here, but that's still my best performance to date :D). Taking today off and hitting the road again tomorrow.

Got hassled by security (yet again) for riding my bike in the station. Was riding in the parking lot, not on the platform. This same rent-a-cop totaly ignored the two guys smoking on the platform.

WTF!! That intersection sucks, and drivers who blow it so they can get to the freeway faster (to sit in traffic, of course) suck too. I'm glad you made it through in one piece.
Actually, it was the double turn lane into the office park directly east of the double turn lanes onto N I-25. I've ridden through it 10-20 times without an incident despite the nagging feeling that I should have picked another route. I really must learn to listen to that little voice in my head. The next time I take the H I will turn off of dayton at Union. Much nicer street. |
Hot hot hot ride home last night ... 100+ heat index. Ride into work was mellow temps and a possible
storm tonight, hopefully after I get home. edit: No such luck ... soaked to the bone this afternoon. |

"It's not for the sun," she said, "it's for the bugs." Now that I commute, I know exactly what she meant. And I've also learned the utility of having multi-lens glasses. |
last night i discovered that two more blocks on my usual route (just on the other side of the brooklyn bridge on brooklyn bridge boulevard) have been repaved and painted in with bike lanes! this is the scariest stretch of road too, i'm glad they are finally acknowledging that we ride there and indicating on the road where we belong. WOOOO!!!!!

I did my first rain-bike. Last two days they were predicting rain, so I didn't ride.
Yesterday I took down this old 'town' bike that we bought 10 years ago and never used. I did a quick tuneup. The frame is too small for me, but I'll manage. Well, riding to work, I got showered on. But it was a nice commute. |
Nice fast ride. A little brisk!
My wife broke out her schwinn 12-spd instead of her breezer for a change of pace and while it was much less comfy, she did her ride in 34 min rather than 38, so I guess that's something. |
It looked cold and nasty outside this morning, but turned out to be just fine. It's supposed to rain sometime today, but it looks positively pleasant. I have my rain jacket just in case.
|
met a fellow commuter on my ride home yesterday so we rode together.. she got a flat so i stuck around to help her out.. ended up getting home later than normal and made the last 5 or so miles in the dark.. i need a front blinky light
|
Yesterday was a wonderful commute - passed 2 other bikers. I haven't seen another biker going the same direction in months before yesterday.
|
On the way home last night I yelled at a driver to get off her Blackberry and pay attention to the task of driving. She reacted in a manner which reflected poorly on her upbringing.
And on the way into the office this morning, I yelled at another driver who was putting her phone to her ear. She looked sheepish and put her phone down. It's been 23 days since the hand-held cell phone ban went into effect and everyday I see some JAM with a phone to his or her ear. |

As well as it only being a 2ndary violation (police have to pull you over for something else before ticketing you for this). Not that there isn't always 'something else'... |
